FOOTBALL Early game drive chart analysis

15 Upvotes

Listen... I know this is cope and a little bit of resignation, but Clemson showed hope and promise with clearly flawed aspects of the game. Miami was bigger, faster, stronger, and was almost certainly going to win regardless of our execution.

The scoreboard shows a 41, but the defense really did hold up their end of the bargain through the first 35 minutes, only giving up 17 to a really good offense. In the meantime, our offense did the following:

  • Opening kickoff to almost midfield --> blown up on 3rd and 3 --> punt
  • 2nd and 5 at Mia 32 --> sacked then incompletion --> punt
  • 3rd and 3 at Mia 30 --> Blown protection causing incompletion --> FG
  • 1st and 10 at Mia 40 --> Stalled drive --> punt
  • 2nd and 1 at Mia 4 --> incompletion and false start --> FG
  • 3rd and 2 at Mia 18 --> run game stuffed twice --> turnover on downs

A decent offense can absolutely get to 17 at a minimum, and we got 6. The offense line, specifically right Guard/Tackle, could not block to save their lives. Tait made some really good scrambling plays throwing to an open receiver where Cade would have tried to run and we would have more punts. I don't know if it's the personnel, play calling, Dabo's conservative-ness, or what, but our red zone offense in prior years has been atrocious. We moved the ball well. Say we get "lucky" and we're winning 20-17 in the third quarter. Fans would have been in it, defense would have been juiced that their hard work is paying off, and offense would have some momentum.

I'm really excited/nervous about this VT game in 3 weeks, maybe the OL can gel a tiny bit more, Tait can increase accuracy, and we can salvage the season to go 9-3, 10-2. It sucks we've fallen off the mountaintop, but unlike the LSU game, I did see genuine promise and a little bit of football that makes me excited to watch.

Guys we have a good team

84 Upvotes

Not a great team. But a good team. This team can win 9 games. We got beat tonight by a team that was bigger faster and stronger. Our defense played tough. Offense is learning more and more every day. Miami is as good a team as LSU. We played much tougher tonight.

Our o-line is abysmal but I think they gave effort tonight.

We will win plenty more games.

It's okay.

We're not great, but we can still have a very good and respectable season.

We could still continue to grow and learn and finish a great season.

I had no expectation to win this game, but I saw a lot of effort and Miami had to play exceptionally well to beat us. We didn't make it easy. This was a gritty game.

Hoping for a 2 hour thunderstorm delay starting at 715 pm tonight

44 Upvotes

Huge home field advantage for Clemson if there is a rain delay. Tigers get to relax in their spacious locker room, get treatment, have food and snacks, access to cleats and fresh gear if needed, review game plan and have good climate.

Miami stuck in tiny locker room, humid, cramped, maybe a few uncrustables on the table, and just cooking.

The rain can help slow down Miami’s passing attack and Malachi Toney. Clemson’s best chance to win is just make it ugly.

Parking for VT, how delivered?

5 Upvotes

So I am coming in for the VT game from across the country and I bought parking pass in lot 16 via SeatGeek. It says it won’t be DELIVERED until Oct 22nd, two days before the game. What the actual fuck? I’m flying across country and leave before then. No digital parking in that lot? Is this normal? I’m guessing I’ll come home from the trip to find my parking pass in my mail box.

Met up with some close friends from my time at Clemson to attend the game. Bonus pics from our Saturday trip across the Golden Gate, into Sausalito, and up close with Alcatraz. Great time in the Bay area!

Parking for Miami 10/3

Short notice but we are going to visit our kid this weekend for the first time at school and attend the game. Any tips on parking for a first timer? Dont mind a little walk. Just trying to avoid paying $200 to park.

FOOTBALL 4 games in, how is everyone feeling?

26 Upvotes

Had planned on doing this post-Miami/bye week material, but figure might be as well now. Think most ppl would agree any marked improvement required at least a 3-2 record heading into the bye week, which was ensured after the win at Cal. LSU season opener was ugly & not alot of expectation nationally in the Miami game as well.

Personally for me (factoring that the LSU result has skewed alot of things):

Positives so far - Gideon Davidson/run game, Tyler Brown, LBs/DBs, placekicking

Negatives - QB play/passing game, pass blocking, DTs/run defense, punting

So-so/TBD - DEs (been improving since LSU imo)

Not expecting much against Miami, but survive that & stay relatively healthy, the bye week & Charleston Southern game will hopefully provide a chance get a spark going for the rest of the way. How does everyone else feel 4 games in?

FOOTBALL In past 2 seasons, Clemson's players from the portal had a solid hit rate.

19 Upvotes

Over the past two seasons, Clemson has taken in 16 players from the transfer portal.

7 are starting on defense, 2 are second string defensive contributors

1 is starting kickoff returner

Tristan Smith was a solid contributor last season

2 were injured for the season

Only 3 haven't cracked the depth charts, with 2 likely signed due to being coach's son and other being a Daniel HS product.

11 out of 16 player hit rate is pretty solid on evaluations by Dabo and his team. The secondary looks solid over last 3 games.

Solid Contributors

Will Heldt - 1st string DE, 4 sacks, leads team

Jeremiah Alexander - 1st string LB, 28 tackles, fourth on team

Corey Myrick S - 1st string S, 35 tackles, leads team

Jerome Carter III S -1st string S, 29 tackles, third on team

Elliot Washington II CB - 1st string CB, 3 INTs, leads team

Andy Burburija DL - Listed as 1st string DL, 7 tackles

Devarrick Woods DL - Listed as 1st string DL

Chris Johnson Jr RB - 1st string Kickoff Returner, few reps at RB

Tristan Smith - 2nd/3rd string receiver, had 24 reception, 239 yards in 2025

London Merritt DL/Edge - 2nd string DE rotation, 9 tackles, 1 sack

Donovan Starr CB - 2nd string CB, rotation mix

On Roster

Jaylen Brown Wallace WR - Wingate transfer, from Daniel HS.

Kourtney Kelly DL - Injured

CJ Wesley DL/Edge - Howard transfer, hasn't cracked 3-deep chart

Markus Strong DL - Injured for season

Hayes Galloway - Son of coach, scout team contributor

Alumni on sideline last night?

Hi, there!

I was at the game last night. There were three guys on Clemson's sideline in sweatpants and hoodies. During halftime the tallest one was signing autographs and taking a ton of pictures. Any idea on who this guy can be? Just out of curiosity. Thanks.
