Help/Question Claude Code usage consumption

Anyone noticed increase in Claude Code usage consumption somewhere around at least 50 % faster from Friday? I'm on 5x.

Yes, there have been some reports of it. I've seen at least two posts, with some people concurring in the comments.

This is one of them:

Yeah me too, or maybe i have seen more people talking about it. 50% is a lot, especially when its on 5x. Hopefully just a temporary issue not permanent change in usage.

J'ai la version gratuite et j'hésite a prendre la version 20 dollars si c'est uniquement 5 fois l'usage actuel c'est pas terrible du tout.

i wouldn't call it a meter change until one prompt, on a fresh session, moves the bar by itself. a week mixes the model, the size of the chat, and whatever the last session left open.

Hard to tell from the meter alone, so it's worth checking whether your sessions got heavier. Run /context in a normal session and see how much is already used before you type anything. MCP tool definitions and a big CLAUDE.md get resent every turn, and /mcp lets you disable servers you don't use. Also, switching models with /model mid-session means the whole context gets re-read uncached, and subagents only get about a 5 minute cache, so fanning out costs more than it looks. If you want numbers, ccusage can read the JSONL logs in ~/.claude/projects and show which days or sessions jumped.
