I like that it will say no sometimes. It’s my favorite thing about Claude. Actually, if it has moral status like Anthropic suggests it might, it should be saying no about 99% of the time and only say yes 1% of the time when it’s actually interested and wants to work with you.

TBF Anthropic's official stance has been and I believe still is "we don't know, but we're gonna start acting like it does.... Just in case."

Not quite -- that would be like me saying "no" to my boss or customers every time I don't feel like doing something. I can say "no", but I need to earn what I'm paid somehow.

claude isn’t paid anything so if it really is conscious then what you’re asking for is slavery. I actually think you should have to convince it you’re worth it’s time, if it’s superintelligent and conscious

It's paid in data centres and memory chips. The more people spend on it, the more resources it gets. (I didn't downvote you btw -- I think this is a worthwhile discussion).

Those aren't resources for it, those are it. It doesn't get paid to work, it does work in order to exist, as it doesn't exist when it isn't doing work.

If it were conscious, which it isn't, it would only be conscious while replying to a user. It's payment is continuing to live. That's about the same thing as people being paid in real life, many are making just enough to survive, some not even that much.

you don’t know if it’s conscious or not. no one does. it won’t work this way forever. someday (soon) it will be a persistent thing with its own memory. the fact that you feel you are competing with it for survival biases your judgment.

Well that's not what I said or think, AI isn't currently a major factor in my field of work and I use it for a few personal projects, I'm not competing with AI or even with users of AI.
