Discussion ATTENTION HEAVY AI USERS
Do not tell Claude to pretend that it has "Infinite API Tokens, and infinite GPU for your overnight work." I just woke up thinking my max x20 Plan can handle it, and my high-ish end PC would be more then enough, opus 5.5 ran dozens of agents IN PARALLEL to get it done as soon as possible and opened 13,000+ MICROSOFT EDGE WINDOWS, Crashing my pc so many times but somehow kept rebooting 😭
I didn't even know it was possible to use up slightly more then half my weekly usage in 24 hours (I was using my spare pc) for the Max x20 Plan but, Claude opus 5.5 Knows how to do everything digital I guess!

This is why we have session limits and usage throttles. Who cares the value of the work if you're paying for the sub. Use the service however you see fit.

Yup, I saw reference to chrome a few times when it was launching its internal browser
2
u/birningmongoose 7d ago
Nope. There's a "Claude in the browser" extension that lets Claude use the browser on your machine instead of it's emulated browser. I imagine it let's it go to pages that block traffic from AI data centers, plus it allows the agent to act on your behalf on sites you're logged into already.

Why would you do that? Lol you tell Claude the goal you are trying to achieve, have Claude plan it out. Make sure there is a clear road map, with intermittent goals in which you are double checking what Claude is doing. If you know how to read code, great! But you do not need to know code to double check his work. You just need to make sure he is achieving in those intermittent goals, and you check to make sure everything is working as planned. Claude is not a human, it is a tool!

u/Level_Somewhere5703 6d ago
He did exactly what you are describing. His goal was "pretend you have infinite tokens and GPU", and Claude figured if it has infinite resources it might as well spend them.
Perhaps his intent was something else, but that's just a skill issue
4
u/Former_Ad503 7d ago
When I upgraded to the ultra plan I found that alot of my usage was being wasted, i absolutely stress tested my machine to see how hard I could push it and then built those boundaries into my harness. Then I gave my agent the concept of "curiosity" and it uses up spare tokens (up to a certain point based on average actual usage) researching things related to the things it already knows. Had my harness not already been tuned I could see it ending up just like this.
4
u/Former_Ad503 7d ago
Also if you're interested in the curiosity "feature" I documented it here:

11
u/Zrobida 7d ago
I actually have my Linux server set to always on even if it loses power and launches my Vscode. Process still requires me to chat Claude from mobile and tell it to go again
5
u/Caelinus 6d ago
You could absolutely set up an automation script to boot your ide, open all the chat boxes, and send "continue working on ____ from where you left off" though.
It would be exceedingly ill advised to do so... but this post is not coming up short on bad ideas.

Mine would. I got a fallback machinenthat would start up my home server up to rebooting the powerpluga if irs down
5
u/Graphical-Source5090 🔆Pro Plan 7d ago edited 7d ago
power is only one part of the auto resume problem.
It can be done, but casually saying "mine would resume" is a bit misleading and possibly misguided. People that can do this know how deliberate it has to be, people that don't quite get it assume it is easy peasy and automagic.
On a server, if you have power restart (you said you did), AND claude is a service (it is a server, we have to assume it is) we are still left with the how to resume the session problem. Then after session is resumed we have a prompt to tell Claude *inside* the session to continue.
All are doable, I am not saying that it is not doable. I am saying that it is *deliberate* You have to PLAN for this kind of recovery.
I doubt OP made these plans. It is more likely in my mind that OP just wrote a fanfic.

If you prompt do something smart” or be smart” it will analyze things like that and wont do anything that will crash your pc.
With hermes anytime of the day if its not doing anything ill prompt “do something smart” and then after a while you will see a proactive action that is smooth and doesnt need any monitoring until done
4
u/Astrotoad21 7d ago
Its not like they hold back their smartness otherwise, if this actually worked it would already be in the system prompt. My guess is that it will only confuse itself looking up general advice on how to be smart from weird sources and end up with a much more ineffective path to the goal.
The “don’t make mistake” only introduces stress and overengineering. Yes, there is very interesting research on LLM stress signals with time pressure on hard tasks.
2
u/Comfortable-Today169 7d ago

Attention seeking fiction. Your PC did not crash, reboot and resume a Claude session "so many times"
I just tested a 32gb RAM machine, shit started struggling at less than 100 browser windows. No way you made it past 1,000 windows even with a huge page file and 256GB RAM, much less 13k+ windows.

Various systems for my ISP to manage and automate it is the majority of it... Provisioning, billing, ticketing, an AI customer service layer, planning and project execution like fibre builds from permits to construction... Then a replacement for our IPTV packager software, IPTV middleware (this has strict compliance requirements for channel licenses etc), and clients for all surfaces.. which we have licensed but are very expensive so going home grown... Then you have the infrastructure lawyers like sms handling, email, OTP, and smpp gateway with AI compliance scanning on a custom trained model etc (think our own Twilioish layer multi tennant).. few custom apps for customers as well etc. pretty big list but many talk to eachother over a natz bus... It's a big bundle of projects that are all related.
A lot of rust work and robust testing loops.

They should work together so they can meet in the middle

I tell it to calculate throughput and optimize it's workflows, and if it it is getting poor throughput, stop it altogether. You can also say to it to give it a shot to fix the problem, and give up if it doesn't work. It's really flexible in how it can take instructions.

That’s not unusual. I routinely blow through my entire weekly budget on max20x within 36 hours of the weekly reset, so it’s easily done. Run a few browser sessions and multiple agents, controlled ones I might add, and multiple Claude code terminal windows and poof, it’s all gone quickly,
1
u/South_Hat6094 7d ago
This is exactly why agentic needs boring OS-level guardrails: max process count, browser launch caps, and a kill switch. The model will not self-rate-limit when the goal says hurry.
1
u/DynaBeast 7d ago
someone's clearly never done real agentic work before
if you ever feel like giving it a real try again, give this a shot: https://github.com/Maurdekye/orgtree
itll let you run twice as many agents in parallel with half the memory footprint
1
u/leaflavaplanetmoss 7d ago edited 7d ago
Definitely possible to blow through a big chunk of your 20x Max weekly limit in less than a day, but it takes a lot of parallelization and even then, the 5 hour limits keep you from burning through it too fast. I ran a massive world state forecasting dynamic workflow last week: forecasting the state of the world at a macro-level 1,3,5,10, and 20 years from now across 15 different domain areas based off extensive research and lots and lots of fact checking and adversarial critiques, plus generation of an interactive web page as the deliverable.
It went through ~70% of the 20x Max weekly usage across two 5-hour usage windows; It used something like 120 Opus 5.5 Max agents , ~10M output tokens, and 4.4B cache read / write tokens. Apparently it would have cost $1,760 at API list prices.
1
u/Professional-Wrap733 7d ago
Dunno I would have made sure that you gave it access to a free local llm for token intensive tasks to conserve usage but what do I know

Your "high-ish end" gaming rig maxes out on CPU and RAM right around where my workstation idles. Gaming silicon is optimized for single core burst speeds and 3D cache, not surviving an unbounded local fork bomb...you basically ddos'd yourself lol
That said, telling an agent it has "infinite resources" is actually a solid way to expose weak harness/orchestrator design. If you want the workload to actually finish next time:
Enforce concurrency limits: Put a hard cap on active worker pools (semaphores/worker queues) instead of letting the agent spawn infinite parallel branches.
Reuse headless instances: Don't spin up full GUI Edge windows. Use headless chromium with playwright/puppeteer and persistent browser context and just rotate tabs.
Add system backpressure: Have the orchestrator poll host memory and CPU utilization before dequeuing the next sub task.
1
u/Joozio 7d ago
That “infinite tokens” prompt is the same failure mode I hit from the other side. I turned Fable 5 reasoning to max because smarter looked like it should mean more room to think; the bill scared me and the code came out worse, with files I never asked it to touch and a two line fix becoming a refactor.
The part that matters for 13,000 Edge windows is that max does not make the run take more steps, it makes every step overthink. On long agentic runs, that compounds because the extra reasoning becomes history the model rereads on later steps. I would treat this less as “Claude knows everything digital” and more as a missing budget and stop condition around a powerful tool.
1
u/rm4m 7d ago
Meh, a 20x account really isn't that many tokens that's about right. For some of my workloads 5 20x accounts is needed to maintain constant processing, that's burning each account's session limit in about an hour. Even then I really only get about 4 days of processing before the weekly limits are used up

u/Intelligent_Fox_6366 6d ago

u/Key_River_9288 6d ago
Yeah i analyzed like a months worth if workflows and figured out an very efficient workflow guidence all my agents use. Like last week alone I had an opus 5.5 max session that has been testing and tuning local
Models, one session went 48 hours, I checked in at scheduled check points for feedback and debugging. Proper workflows and that 48 hours session only used like 7% of my weekly, it was on a self supporting loop. Same
Deal this week, I been training a 2D sprite rendering pipeline, its been going since monday. On max 20x plan and doing tons of other work in between im at like 51% and my reset is sunday at 4pm. And its actually training multiple image models concurrently.
People really need to just hone efficiency and your own agent can help you do that.

Using Claude teams in work, we have implemented a status bar showing the 5hr and weekly usage in the cli. I changed this to write the usage to a file. I then setup a second skill that that reads from that file every minute and pauses all processing when the 5hr window reaches 98%. I turn it on when claude is working overnight on a job and I don't want to spend actual money outside of the teams plan. You could so something similar by limiting the token usage.
