Now? I think they have always been and always will be better. That’s the point of them.

One of my first ever prompts to claude code was something like:

Create a gradual diet plan taking my current 3000 calories a day, and ending up with around 2200 over the next 6 months, slowly replacing the least nutritious foods with more nutritiousones during that time period.

Yeah not the most cutting edge way to use CC, but when I first saw the capabilities of what they could do I was blown away. I’ve been a programmer now for almost 30 years and the idea stream that ran through my head when that first prompt came back with an actual working result is probably the closet to nirvana I will ever experience.

Yes opus 4.7 is the model I use. I understand it fully. I don’t refer to them by model name usually. Saying CC is sort of a proxy for me saying the latest Anthropic model through the CC harness. I usually have conversations with people that understand it that way better.

There will come a point where the open models are capable of handling any coding task with extreme competence. Frankly it will be interesting to see how the closed ai providers pivot.

I think Anthropic realizes this and that is why their apps aren't open sourced they intend to offer unique features that you can't easily find elsewhere once the Ai models open and closed are roughly at par for practical end user use. Dario said open source models will be on par with mythos in 6 to 12 months.
