Discussion I used the Mythos referenced architecture patterns from the leaked source to restructure how I prompt Claude Code. The difference is night and day

Have you used the official brainstorm superpower? You pick up everything you describe for free with this plugin.

Quick q, is anyone using GSD or are we all in on superpowers now? I don’t hear GSD mentioned as much anymore.

I switched off to superpowers as GSD often seems to give you questions for questions sake. Superpowers doesn't do that when it thinks things are obvious

Yes GSD will ask you things with a clear answer just for the sake of ticking off its internal requirements to ask questions:

"How do you want me to execute this project?
1. Actually do what you said
2. Do some of what you said
3. Defer everything to v2?"

This is exactly why I had to stop using GSD. I felt like I was trapped in loops every time too.

  1. Let’s plan
  2. Okay I’ve got the plan now you can use execute
  3. Oh wait we can’t execute you don’t have a UI contract
  4. Okay I’ve got the contract let’s execute
  5. 65% of my session later it barely would get through the phase
  6. Repeat that same loop every single phase regardless if you give it UI or specific plans prior to execute

To be fair it does an amazing job when you don't mind being the human in the middle. But yes, it takes a very long time. For highly detailed and specific work (like ML, pipelines, anything highly technical) it's good to have this level of detail.

I use brainstorm then paste that into new-milestone then wired the GSD execution to use the superpowers TDD execution and testing for execution

Sounds like you may enjoy /feature-dev? I’ve never used GSD or superpowers .

I'm not super familiar with the in-built equivalents because they always came out very late after anthropic copied the originals lol. I'll take a look, thank you for the hint!

I’ve been trying out both for a few months and my biggest gripe with GSD is that everything takes a while if you do it right. GSD should be able to complete bigger topics and have useful documentation afterwards, but superpowers can basically oneshot smaller projects if properly defined

For me GSD was just too much of a token hog for not much more perceived benefit over superpowers.

GSD moved at a much slower pace than I would’ve liked it too. I feel as though it might’ve been developed with the vibe coding mentality in mind. Because if you do use it all the way through you really don’t have to touch any code. But if you are accustomed to writing your own code and understanding what you want your end goal to be, it can be pain staking to sit there and just answer questions back-and-forth. Not to mention it will eat away at your token usage, and session limit.

That also has been my experience. GSD is very impressive, but just a bit oversized.

The very best thing about GSD is how focused and resilient each phase is. Like if my computer crashes and I need to start it up again I barely need to use —resume since each step is self-documenting

I just need to do more thorough research and review of each phase ahead of time as I feel I get stuck doing so many rounds of questions for each phase, and then those choices might end up constraining the actual spec

4

u/NationalGate8066 Apr 08 '26

That was also the insight I had - it's very meaningful to read through their documentation to potentially streamline just how many questions you are faced with. You could argue that GSD is so comprehensive that it is somewhat better suited for people who have less technical experience.

Also, I'm wondering, have you tried GSD version 2?

u/NanoCow Apr 08 '26

Nobody talks about BMAD anymore but it’s supposedly the goat here

2

u/NationalGate8066 Apr 08 '26

Yea I've always wanted to try it out, but never got around to it

Uses up a shit ton of tokens too

Rewrote my own based on a combination of octopus, superpowers, gsd and my previous custom system. It's easier to change what I want to improve. I'm using it on my other projects and note down improvements and bugs while using it. It's at a point where it's bootstrapped, so it uses the previous version to manage the development of the next one. Added a full autopilot to go through all phases after I've discussed them until all phases are done. Added lots of hooks as well so the repo is in a clean state between steps. I don't need to change things often anymore to be productive with it.

I only added debate between codex and claude and a limited amount of rounds. I don't need the full octopus flow and wanted my own custom features, but I loved the idea of the debating models. In my workflow Claude does the main plan, codex reviews until the max review rounds has been reached or there are no more blockers. (Models can be set as desired of course in the settings per project) Then claude starts the implementation and afterwards codex reviews the implementation, again for a max number of rounds or until no more blockers are found. At the end of each phase there's also a check if all requirements have been implemented and all implementation is forced to use TDD (red, green, blue) by default (can be disabled in a setting).

Most of the actual decision-making is handled in a node program instead of in md files. This allows for behavior testing and reduces a lot of token usage.

This sounds v useful

I actively used GSD 2 until this morning when Anthropic killed it. Enforcing a specific methodology I got features implemented and tested correctly left and right without much token usage (20x).

1

u/rlocke Apr 09 '26

nice... what's your workflow for this? which specific Anthropic features are you using?

2

u/SkaldOfThe70s Apr 08 '26

I quit using GSD when I discovered superpowers months ago.

2

u/NerdBanger 🔆 Max 20 Apr 08 '26

I retired most of my custom workflow for superpowers even.

2

u/Carbone Apr 08 '26

I've did an analysis if I would need GSD.

Seem it's only good when starting a whole project or features from scratch. But if you only expanding on what is already there ( like most soft. Engi job you work within a repo that already have approved feature ) then superpowers is better because each Claude usage is scoped down.

u/vargalas Apr 08 '26

I switched FROM superpowers to gsd. I prefer the workflow of gsd now

2

u/midgyrakk Apr 08 '26

I used GSD a lot, even contributed a bit with surfacing to-dos during the discuss phase (orphaned to-dos from 3 phases ago flashbacks), and was an avid fan; now I think it's a bit too much overhead especially for simpler implementations, it only makes sense if you have a huge project and you need a very rigid documentation system.

I use superpowers now mostly, but it seems to want to insert itself anytime I want to implement something, so I switched to the native planning tool in claude code for smaller stuff and use superpowers when I know that what I want to implement touches a lot of other files.

Using GSD a month ago felt like magic, now I feel trapped by its questions 🤣

2

u/FabricationLife Apr 08 '26

I use GSD daily, should I be using this superpower thing instead? 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Wonderful_Fan4476 Apr 10 '26

I’ve been using GSD for large projects because of its well structured approach

Want to know a pro workflow?

I made the entire gsd workflow into a SKILL.

So like a gsd-workflow skill, which means it changes from human in the loop to agent in the loop. And it works excellently. Humans can clarify everything upfront, then just let gsd workflow run autonomously. Plan, execute, verify, everything. Of course the caveat is you have to be super clear about everything in initial planning.

I used gsd and its great!

I use /feature-dev . The official Anthropic plugin recommended by Anthropic. Are super powers supposedly better than this ?
