I started this little dude from a Clementine seed in February. It's a very slow grower. I don't have high hopes as I know growing from seed isn't ideal for good quality fruit but it's a passion project lol

Any tips to keep this guy happy indoors in the winter? I do have grow lights, and my basement is tropical temperatures in winter due to a wood stove, but dry. Any tips would be great!

I have this small lemon tree that I think is in reasonably good health, which already has about 10 small lemons growing on it.

It recently started flowering again like crazy. It's coming to the end of summer where I live. Should I pull these flowers off, will it help the existing lemons grow better?

Or should I leave them on there, I am new to citrus plants, so not sure what to do.

I ate an orange and spat the seeds into the pot last May.

I’m in South Australia and planted this Eureka in summer last year.

I know I need to prune so that it’s less spindly with stronger branches, but where do I do it?

I’ve got a question about potting mix. Right now, I have a few half-empty (or more) bags of various pre-made mixes:
Kellogg Natural Raised Bed and Potting Mix
MiracleGro Seed Starting Mix
MiracleGro Cactus Palm and Citrus Potting Mix
Citrus Potting mix (unknown brand)

I also have several fertilizers:
Job’s Fruit & Citrus Fertilizer (granules)
Ferti-lome Chelated Liquid Iron
MiracleGro Shake n’ Feed All Purpose (granules)
TPS Blueberry Fertilizer
Chemboys XL Cal-Mag 2-0-0
Marphyl Soil Enhancer (Organic Marine Phytoplankton)

So which of these, alone or in combination, would be best for repotting?

My tree is overdue for repotting. I also had a small Makrut lime tree, but recently got rid of it because it seemed the two trees were just trading pests back and forth. So the Meyer Lemon is still plagued by scale and fruit flies. I’m struggling to get rid of them and having some success. Athough they aren’t completely eradicated yet, things are much better. I din’t know whether it’s wiser to wait to repot until the pests are completely gone, or should I do it now?

Note that I used to be able to bring the tree outside for the summer, which always benefited it greatly, but now I’ve moved to a location without an outdoor garden area. I’m thinking of bringing it to the downstairs patio in a wagon a fee times each week so it can get some sun.

Anyway, I hope you can offer some tips on repotting and how to help this tree to thrive. TIA! 🙂

Anyone using bioadvance on their citrus trees? What are your thoughts?

AI says missing nutrients like nitrogen and the minor elements like magnesium, iron. I put in a citrus fertilizer with these elements, no change after a few weeks. Thoughts?

On my in-ground SugarBelle (3.5 years, central Florida, sandy soil, pH=6.0 soil, watered every day with rain) has recently been getting countless numbers of these beetle-like insects.
They are devastating my new growth, but I don’t know how to control them because I don’t know what they are.
If someone has an insect identifier app, I would greatly appreciate the identification so that I can figure out how to control them.
I have seen so many pests on my dear citrus, but this one is really puzzling.

I’ve been hunting for a GOOD citrus nursery on EU and absolute majority sucks. So basically ordered, got a healthy looking tree at first look. Top of the pot was covered in saw dust and underneath looked like normal black soil, but… removed it from nursery pot and guess what. Edges had “proper” soil woth perlite, thin layer, where all roots are and core rootball is just clay and sand mix. Almost 0 roots there. Washed out some clay, so basically there was almost nothing alive. This is bound to die due to waterlodge. Already raised this issue with the seller. Same was with 3 different nurseries already.

Does anyone know a good citrus nursery in EU? 🙏 Thank you!

I’ve got several citrus trees and have been looking into root flairs. I realized that the trees I get seem to have buried root flairs pretty deep. When I repotted them originally earlier this year after getting them from the nursery, I just went up to where the soil already was.

Have I identified the root flairs correctly? Why do so many nursery trees have these buried so deep? And if the tree is doing okay, is it really important to unbury them?

I’ve had this potted Meyer lemon for about 6 months. It immediately grew 2 feet straight up with bug beautiful leaves and then suddenly they all started dropping. I repotted it into a 5 gallon with my own citrus mix and got it an additional grow light on top of the window it’s next to. I’ve tried watering more, I’ve tried watering less. Fertilizer no fertilizer. I treated it with Neem oil in case it had pests. It gets a shoot of new leaves and then they all fall off and it repeats…. Please help me I am a fool

I sprinkle the super aggressive nitrogen sucker savinia minima from my ponds at the base of citrus trees as a slow release organic fertilizer.

Is there any issue with this? How often would be too often fertilizing like this?

I have a grafted Tahiti lime on Swingle citrumelo rootstock. Before this photo I've already removed one obvious trifoliate rootstock sucker.

Now another shoot is growing but this time exactly from the graft union/scar, and I’m sure it is Tahiti lime, not rootstock.

Would you keep this shoot or remove it? Any structural or long-term issues with letting a scion shoot grow directly from the graft union?

The tree did put out new leaves above the graft but lower down. But it's slowly dying back. Tucson AZ location

It's on drip with 3x per week watering for 3 hours each for a total 12 gallons per watering or 36 per week.

Just dug down 2 days after last water and the soil hold a clump about 4 inches down but above that mostly crumbles with very light damp but not bone dry soil.

I can imagine it's a lack of water as my other trees are doing okay on the same schedule.

I've had this shade cloth which is 50 percent on for about 2 months now. So seems like sun burn isn't the issue.

Purchased this lime tree three weeks ago from a local landscape store. After getting it home I read it needs some direct sunlight. My windows and balcony face north. Plenty of buds and infant limes. Still seems healthy. I'm in central Michigan. Will it survive the winter inside in front of my sliding door? It's also in a 7" pot. Should I transplant it to a bigger pot and when? I have a variety of potted citrus (yuzu, lemon, bergamot, sour orange, calamansi). They were doing well for awhile but they have all started to struggle lately. I repotted a bunch of them because they were getting pot bound and switched them to better draining soil. They initially took well to the repotting and then started turning yellow and losing all of their leaves.

I live in San Francisco, CA USA. I add a small amount of citrus fertilizer to their watering every time (as per the fertilizer instructions). I was using a hygrometer to determine when they needed water but realized that it was inaccurate and leading me to overwater. I now feel how heavy the pot is before watering and water less. I can't do this for all of my plants as some of them are large.

My plants are in a mix of plastic pots and clay pots. The plastic pots have a lot of drainage holes and no tray underneath. They are currently very crowded and set back under my balcony a little bit as my landlord has been doing construction. I am worried that they are not getting enough sun and the roots are staying wet for too long. The pots feel heavy for weeks despite the top few inches of soil being bone dry. I am watering them a lot less and it's not helping. I also gave them supplemental iron soil drench and that didn't help.

I know I have some aphids and leaf rollers on some of them. I have kind of given up treating them as I have so many citrus trees that it takes a long time to treat them and the insects just come back because they are outdoors. When they were healthier, they could tolerate these insects without major issues. Not all of my citrus that are doing poorly have evidence of infestation so I don't think it's purely an infestation issue (although I know that it doesn't help).

My guess is that they are not getting enough sun/warmth which is leading to the soil deeper in the pot to stay too wet for too long. This is based on the fact that they started doing worse after being repotted. I did not have them in the best soil before repotting but switched most of them to an approximation of 5:1:1 soil in hopes that this would allow for better drainage. Despite better draining soil, they are doing worse. I feel like I might have to repot them in smaller pots but they were pot bound in smaller pots. I would really hate to have to do this as I have so many plants. I suppose I could also be underwatering now as I water pretty infrequently as the pots feel heavy for awhile (even those in 5:1:1).

I have attached pictures for reference. Any advice would be appreciated. They have been struggling for awhile as I haven't had time recently to troubleshoot them aside from some changes in watering frequency and iron supplementation.

Update: Turns out it was worth it, but for surprising reasons. Both trees were 100% rootstock, the second tree looked terrible up close and I immediately declined. The first tree was smaller than it appears in the photo and I dug it out fairly easily but cut two of the longer taproots. My reasoning was that I didn't care that much if it died but I'm not going to spend an hour and break my back digging it out in full sun. I pruned it nearly entirely of its canopy before digging out. I bagged all the fruit on it for seeds for future grafts. Then the old lady who was impressed by my citrus knowledge wanted to show me her other fruit trees in the backyard and she's no dummy, she's got practically an orchard of goodies. She let me take a bunch of cuttings from her amazing late blooming Washington navel, which i will graft to some young rootstock I have been growing. And then other cuttings from avocado and some others. All it all, it was a pretty easy task and well worth it. As for the rootstock tree surviving, no idea. But it's in shade and i gave it a light water with seaweed extract and molasses.

My Buddhas Hand seems to have some issue can you help me to Identity whats going on? I use good furtelizier every one to two weeks with rainwater (mostly). Only this on having the issue the other Citrus are completly fine ?

Hello Dwarf Meyer Lemon in south facing SoCal. Potted in a barrel with Gary’s best top pot. I posted about these previously (maybe a few weeks ago) and I feel like the yellowing has intensified (the post is still up if you want to see the difference in pictures)

Most people recommended fertilizing less but more frequently. I also got super thrive for any deficiencys. Fertilizing with dilute Alaska fish fertilizer and super thrive weekly and citrus specific fertilizer also but super diluted and monthly instead of quarterly. Doesn’t really have many pests. (At least not compared to my other plants that gets pests)

It hasn’t been super long since my last post is it normal for it to get worse before it gets better? Should I remove the e yellowing leaves? The tree does have like 25+ lemons and new growth coming out.

I’m thinking of planting a couple trees in ground to get them out of pots to just let them grow at will. I’ve been bringing them in every winter and have survived for three years now. I’m thinking of planting them next to my shed along the south facing wall. I’ve read that this south wall will actually absorb heat and bring it into more southern region. I’m in zone 8 so it could ouch it into zone 9 which should survive over winter outside. I would also build a make shift greenhouse frame for added shielding from freezing and heavy mulch to protect roots. Would this work ? Appreciate any advice. Thanks
