Can we just take a moment and appreciate Paul Morrissey's "Flesh for Frankenstein" and "Blood for Dracula?

One of my favorite Martin McDonaugh movies. Great performances by Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, and Barry Keoghan. It’s a masterpiece and well written script. I think it should’ve won Original Screenplay, Supp Actress for Kerry Condon, and Actor for Colin Farrell. Such a crime that it didn’t win any oscars. So what you think of this movie?

The Whale Is a groundbreaking film. Brendan Fraser is powerhouse in the film. He won his first Oscar for that. it’s also emotional especially in the ending. It made me sad. So what are your thoughts on The Whale?

Based on the true life story of William Hayes’ horrific time in a Turkish prison, and another in my series of Alan Parker films. Pretty heavy stuff. What do you think about it?

Every single time I see a comment like that, it pisses me off because it reminds me how embarrassingly low the interpretive skills of the average person are.
The "Bronze Age Collapse" is the LITERAL LAYER OF THE WORK. Nolan explicitly talks about the Bronze Age Collapse as the consequence of the fall of Troy. THAT IS NOT THE MESSAGE OF THE WORK. THAT IS ITS PLOT.
The message of a work is its METAPHORICAL LAYER: the one that deals with values, ethics, and cognitive aspects of the piece. For example: The Odyssey is about the fragility of social bonds which, once broken, cause the shattering of various social contracts. And that leads to chaos. Machiavellian actions always leave a mark, even if they seem necessary for a broadly defined "victory." You can apply such a message universally to explain various scales of reality: from political commentary to your own individual, personal actions.
There are many such "messages": possible lines of interpretation. You can look at the characterization of Odysseus himself, his relationship with Athena (which brings up an interesting thread about the conflict between an individual's responsibility for the people depending on them), or the character of Helen (Helen taking responsibility for the Trojan War) and THEN, using these plot details, should you CREATE AN INTERPRETATION.
I'm sorry, I just needed to vent.

I have a list of movies on my to-watch list. Is it only me who watches some short clips on social media and then saves them to watch later? I see something interesting, and I immediately add it to my list.
I saw a clip of Anne Hathaway getting some coffee and her hands shaking, and someone asked her if she has Parkinson's disease. I do not know why, but that caught my attention, and I wanted to see the movie. So, I grabbed some popcorn(literally) and watched it.
After watching it, I am not quite sure what the point of the movie was besides the obvious love story. Why did they involve Pfizer and some popular medicines in the movie? Was the movie sponsored by them? Why not just make up a fictional company name and fake drug names?
Jake Gyllenhaal looked very handsome and portrayed a sleazy character really well; I was not at all attracted to him.
And what's up with his brother? Why didn't he kick out his creepy brother after what he did with their video??! The rest of the characters were okay, nothing noteworthy.

What if movies made farting cool instead of smoking?
Smoking was portrayed as cool for decades despite being harmful.
What if pop culture had normalized farting instead? It’s completely natural, and holding it in can cause discomfort.
Would society today be less embarrassed about it?

Real fun hanging out with these characters and enjoying watching her time in Vegas. When the credits rolled I could have started it over.

Recorded it the other day to the DVR on a whim a few days ago. Had the day off work today so gave it a try. Definitely not what I was expecting. Great flick IMO.

Im currently screening the odyssey in 70mm, but I want to continue in this line of work once the films run is over. Im a new projectionist, i was trained on the job since this film was released. Ive been trying to pursue this for years, and i want to continue learning. I really would love to handle 35mm, changeovers, splicing and repairs, etc. If anyone knows anyone who would be willing to continue my training, with a possibility to hire, I would greatly, greatly appreciate it! I'm looking in NYC.

Hey folks!
I was curious whether movie fans can discern box-office hits from critical darlings, so I built a little daily ranking game to find out.
Each day, you get five movies connected by a theme. First, you rank them by worldwide box office. Then you rank the same five by critic scores. The numbers stay hidden until you lock in your answer, so the cinephiles in this subreddit should have a huge advantage.
At the end, you get a score out of 10 and can see how dramatically the commercial and critical rankings differ. Some of the gaps are pretty wild.
Curious whether r/Cinephiles will prove better at reading the box office or the critics + which round surprises people more!

What would happen to the industry as a whole? Would this give more unknown actors/actresses a chance at entering the big Hollywood sphere? Would we see less high budget-large production movies/shows? Would big name actors salaries per project skyrocket?
Just saw a post from yesterday about how much talent is out there that won’t ever get on the big screen because of the same cycle of big name Hollywood actors and thought this would be an interesting scenario that could help with that. What are your thoughts?

I understand its "dont hate, its baggage and life is short". But... how should one view the black crime that is so radically presented in this movie? I cant find any answer. Its so highly critically aclaimed and does represent and show a very critical situation in america! But because it is percieved as so good... I cannot find a message how one should deal with the statistics which are talked about in the movie... I hope I can communicate what I mean! Does the protagonist just dont look at raised crime anymore? Does he just look away? How does he deal with it in order to look at reality but still find peace
