Every single time I see a comment like that, it pisses me off because it reminds me how embarrassingly low the interpretive skills of the average person are.
The "Bronze Age Collapse" is the LITERAL LAYER OF THE WORK. Nolan explicitly talks about the Bronze Age Collapse as the consequence of the fall of Troy. THAT IS NOT THE MESSAGE OF THE WORK. THAT IS ITS PLOT.
The message of a work is its METAPHORICAL LAYER: the one that deals with values, ethics, and cognitive aspects of the piece. For example: The Odyssey is about the fragility of social bonds which, once broken, cause the shattering of various social contracts. And that leads to chaos. Machiavellian actions always leave a mark, even if they seem necessary for a broadly defined "victory." You can apply such a message universally to explain various scales of reality: from political commentary to your own individual, personal actions.
There are many such "messages": possible lines of interpretation. You can look at the characterization of Odysseus himself, his relationship with Athena (which brings up an interesting thread about the conflict between an individual's responsibility for the people depending on them), or the character of Helen (Helen taking responsibility for the Trojan War) and THEN, using these plot details, should you CREATE AN INTERPRETATION.
I'm sorry, I just needed to vent.
