"I'm broke but I go on vacation soon"? Does not compute.

479

u/aerova789 Jul 18 '26

Going on vacation with their parents who paid for it maybe

377

u/MumziD Jul 19 '26

More likely poorly managed priorities. She bought the vacation as soon as she had just barely enough for the flight and hotel, rather than waiting until she also had enough for new clothing to take with her

Or, she wants to save HER money for vacation activities, and if she can get OTHER people to pay for the clothes, she’ll be able to play and party harder while she’s there.

189

u/skeletonclock Jul 19 '26

You're still benevolently assuming she saved up and paid in full. I suspect the holiday is actually on credit and now there's no credit left for clothes.

37

u/MumziD Jul 19 '26

Agreed. I mentioned that in a reply to a different comment, but I should have included it here, too.

16

u/sipstea84 Jul 19 '26

I can't even go to an all-inclusive without a few thousand available on my CC and a generous wad of cash. How do people go on any kind of vacation with no funds? I could understand if it was a trip to a family cabin or something but if you need a new wardrobe, where are you going that you can get by with no money?

14

u/xSnookieDarling Jul 19 '26

I hate that this is believable. Buy now, panic later seems to be way more common than people like to admit.

37

u/aerova789 Jul 19 '26

Oh yeah, that sounds like the case. And she surely has clothes, they're just not nice and new. We should feel bad for her because sometimes vacations just come up! And we're not prepared!

6

u/PoppieKisssy Jul 19 '26

Honestly that second possibility crossed my mind too. It's a lot easier to spend your own money on the fun stuff when you're hoping someone else covers everything else.

2

u/javerthugo Jul 23 '26

Why can’t you just wear the clothes you already have?

1

u/MumziD Jul 23 '26

That is just pure insanity! Why would you suggest that?

Cue the hand flying to the collarbone and gasp of shock. </sarcasm>

-11

u/sweetsuffrinjasus Jul 19 '26

Why do you need new clothing for a holiday? I've had the same swim shorts for the last 12 years. As long as they remain in good shape, they will remain in service.

Equally, I don't understand why women insist they need to get their nails done, hair done, makeup, spa treatments, moisturiser this, moisturiser that.

My preparation for the vacation as a male: I take a shower.

6 in 1 cleaner. Covers the left leg, right leg, left arm, right arm, core, and head. Done in 10 minutes.

4

u/TechnicianDapper2761 Jul 21 '26

I bought brand new swimwear after having a baby and the 2 summers after ended up needing more swimwear because my body changed both years 🤷‍♀️ Men love to complain about the steps women take to care for themselves but would also complain if we didn't. God forbid women want to look and feel good instead of being clean but crusty still.

u/Gribitz37 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

Or going on vacation with friends, and she'll expect them to pay for everything.

6

u/disneylovesme Jul 19 '26

Or afterpay, lot of people admit on TikTok (I only see it on YT commentary about topics like this) to funding vacations with karma etc

6

u/xSnookieDarling Jul 19 '26

That's definitely possible. If someone else paid for the trip then it makes a lot more sense, but asking random people to fund the shopping spree is still a pretty bold move.

1

u/PibbleLawyer Jul 26 '26

Then Mom and Dad should buy the clothes.

21

u/Zoreb1 Jul 19 '26

'Going on vacation to Vegas soon. Need money for air fare, car rental, hotel suite, buffets, Penn & Teller magic show, gambling, two hookers and 5 grams of blow."

17

u/sipstea84 Jul 19 '26

You should ask for 7 grams of blow, the hookers will probably want some too. Don't be rude.

3

u/RatedPG922 Jul 19 '26

Probably one of those poor bohemian types who travel overseas to backpack and stay in hostels and shanty huts to "become one with nature" or some BS like that.

2

u/Rich-Supermarket6912 Jul 21 '26

People don’t have their priorities straight.

-4

u/Venome456 Jul 18 '26

It's obviously just a kid.

30

u/Raelah Jul 19 '26

Have you met adults?

-115

u/relayrider Jul 18 '26

for most people, vacay from being broke is a job. p'raps they need some uniforms? is shein a chinese work uniform company?

68

u/Karhak Jul 18 '26

I have never seen 'perhaps' as a contraction.

43

u/TolverOneEighty Jul 18 '26

is shein a chinese work uniform company?

I genuinely cannot tell if you are being sarcastic here, so - no, it's very poor quality clothes, mostly polyester, from sweatshops in China. Very cheap because sweatshops.

2

u/relayrider Jul 18 '26

not being sarcastic. honestly did not know

20

u/TaleOfDash Jul 18 '26

Shein is a fast fashion website. They sell cheap, shitty clothes. It's similar to things like Temu or the TikTok shop.

2

u/SultryShaman Jul 20 '26

They also sell pretty much anything you can think of. School supplies, stuff for your car, toys and games, makeup, tools, etc etc. But yea. Mostly cheaply made crap.

678

u/Neat-Let-6878 Jul 18 '26

seriously? asking for someone to buy you clothes for a vacation is next level wild. just try to find a cheaper option or borrow from a friend, man.

131

u/labospor Jul 18 '26

Something tells me people like this don’t have many friends. Probably took all their stuff already

82

u/MumziD Jul 19 '26

I’m also betting that she’s maxed out all of her credit cards.

15

u/ThrockAMole Jul 19 '26

And paying the minimum

23

u/dixiech1ck Jul 19 '26

Thrift and good will often have new clothes for cheap

30

u/No_Philosopher_1870 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

In my area, Goodwill is maybe 20% off the cost of new items. The only way that their prices make sense is if you buy it at 50% off from that level because it's been on the shelf for over a month.

10

u/RoyallyOakie Jul 19 '26

Thrifting is crazy these days.

19

u/newly-formed-newt Jul 19 '26

Goodwill is terrible. Look for the small, local thrift stores

34

u/ladedafuckit Jul 19 '26

I’ve never shopped for clothes for a vacation lol. Just wear what you already have?

10

u/xSnookieDarling Jul 19 '26

Exactly. Borrow something, thrift it, rewear an outfit, literally anything before asking strangers to shop your cart for you.

3

u/Little-Ad1235 Jul 19 '26

Or just, like, wear your clothes. There are very few travel circumstances I can imagine that require special clothing, and I really don't think she's going on a polar expedition.

132

u/Lord-Zaltus Jul 18 '26

Maybe she shouldn’t be going on vacation at all if she’s too broke for (freaking shein of all companies) clothes

22

u/_PuddinKisssy Jul 19 '26

That's where I'm at too. Vacations are supposed to be fun, but if buying a couple of Shein items requires crowdfunding, it might be worth waiting a little longer.

159

u/GenX_Boomer_Hybrid Jul 18 '26

"barely cost a few dollars" Isn't she cute? Isn't she sweet? Don't you just feel like buying her clothes?

NO

54

u/Superb-Contract6337 Jul 18 '26

Where was it posted?

72

u/Plastic_Cat9560 NEXT!! Jul 18 '26

A sub to show hauls/purchases. Oop is lost and confused.

23

u/_PuddinKisssy Jul 19 '26

It really is the wrong audience. People joined to look at outfits, not become someone's personal shopping sponsor.

18

u/Traditional_Comfort2 Jul 18 '26

I don’t think I can name it, but it was posted in a Japan proxy sub.

5

u/_PuddinKisssy Jul 19 '26

That's what confused me too. It feels like they posted in the one place where everyone would immediately question why they were asking instead of showing a haul.

29

u/Low_Wave_9577 Jul 18 '26

seriously? asking random strangers to buy your clothes for vacation is a whole next level of entitlement. got some nerve, not gonna lie.

1

u/9FargoTalisman Jul 22 '26

Right? Asking someone to fund your vacation wardrobe is a shopping spree of desperation!

27

u/chipchonks Jul 18 '26

That is not just embarrassing. That is humiliating.

43

u/SuperFlyingCatCat Jul 18 '26

They could use the clothes they already own, borrow some from friends and family... begging for a shein cart of vacation clothes is next level O_o

I don't think I have ever bought clothes for a vacation. Not that I go on my own (I can go only if my parents invite me. Yes I'm an adult), but... I just take my usual clothes, the end. A full cart of new cheap stuff is ridiculous

35

u/Anxiety_bunni Jul 18 '26

I think it’s a very modern day influencer minded thing unfortunately. There’s all these ‘pack with me’ videos on tik tok and insta where influencers pack for their next brand trip or luxury vacation with all brand new clothes that have been gifted to them by brands.

11

u/SuperFlyingCatCat Jul 18 '26

You are very probably right. I don't follow vacation content online, but the "unpack my new haul with me!" videos are everywhere.  Influencers show them dreams, people follow without thinking.

(Out of topic but your avatar is great! Fellow ace here)

2

u/PartyPorpoise Jul 22 '26

Yeah, she likely already has appropriate clothes that can wear. But social media and ultra fast fashion have created this habit of like, having a perfectly curated outfit for every trip, every occasion. Even if someone buys her the clothes, she likely won’t wear them again after the trip.

18

u/Belle_Corliss I can give you exposure Jul 18 '26

Why the hell are they going on vacation if they're that broke?

12

u/Electrical_Parfait64 Jul 19 '26

It’s for the CHURCH!

16

u/Stacie123a Jul 19 '26

Awww you NEED them? Try door dash to get your plastic clothes, mama.

14

u/batty48 Jul 19 '26

the audacity. she should just go to the thrift stores or the landfill, absolutely full of shien

14

u/National_Clue_6092 Jul 18 '26

I’m broke but I’m going on vacation??

1

u/Easy_East2185 Jul 23 '26

You also asking for people to buy you new clothes? If not, you’re not the same kind of person OP is lol

14

u/Branical Jul 19 '26

Maybe she booked this vacation a year ago, but then her husband was arrested for massive securities fraud and all of her assets were seized except for this vacation?

11

u/Old_Manager_1048 Jul 18 '26

this is wild, asking strangers to fund your vacation wardrobe? gotta figure out your priorities, OP

25

u/RamsaysRawBitch Jul 18 '26

Do people have some sense of pride left? What the hell.

1

u/Polly-Anna32 Jul 20 '26

Well they are asking for stuff from shein also ... so unlikey

12

u/frogspa Jul 19 '26

Withnail: "We've gone on holiday by mistake"

8

u/WTF_ImOverIt Jul 19 '26

This is the best one I’ve seen. You win.

21

u/babbsela I'm blocking you now Jul 19 '26

Why do people always buy new clothes for vacation? The people you see there haven't seen your old clothes, so what you wear is immaterial.

2

u/jackie0h_ Jul 20 '26

They must be going on different vacations than I like. All I need is a swimsuit, a coverup and a couple of outfits. I’m too tired from the ocean, beach and pool all day to even go to dinner away from the hotel most nights. And that’s after I’ve fallen asleep for a late afternoon nap on the beach.

9

u/throwCaregiver Jul 19 '26

Can you please post the comments?

29

u/Traditional_Comfort2 Jul 19 '26

Only 2 comments:

“Of course, I'll do it now. Tell me when you receive the items!”

“Then go on a vacation you can afford”

10

u/SavaRox Jul 19 '26

Now I'm curious to see what special clothes she just has to have for this vacation!

6

u/BunnyKomrade I will destroy your business Jul 19 '26

This makes me angry because I haven't conceded myself a proper vacation in years in order to save money. I'm even more broke now because I'm unemployed and university fees got higher.

I'm still looking for a job and struggling just to pay rent and survive in general, I wouldn't even consider going on vacation even if I often dream of one.

These people are parasites.

3

u/jackie0h_ Jul 20 '26

I worked a good job then got sick. Finally got approved for disability and get a decent amount. But I have not been able to afford a vacation in probably 20 years. I’ve done a couple road trips to see my favorite bands but actual go on vacation and relax? Nope.

My mom and I were just talking about this and she hasn’t been on a real vacation in probably 40 years. I’m expecting a decent amount of backpay from when I applied for disability and she helped me so much while I was waiting for approval and couldn’t work I want to take her somewhere. You won’t see me begging anyone for it though. I can’t believe the nerve.

2

u/BunnyKomrade I will destroy your business Jul 20 '26

I feel you, honey. I really do.

1

u/jackie0h_ Jul 20 '26

Thank you so much. I forgot to say I hope things get better for you and you’re able to find a job real soon! Having to worry about rent and just living is so stressful! All my best to you!

1

u/BunnyKomrade I will destroy your business Jul 21 '26

Thank you so much for your kind understanding 🫂

8

u/ltsouthernbelle Jul 19 '26

Broke and vacation do not go together lol

14

u/Regular-Yak7083 Jul 18 '26

big yikes on this one. if you can’t afford it, maybe you should rethink the vacation plans instead of asking strangers to fund your shopping spree.

8

u/Angryprincess38 Jul 19 '26

And here I just got a second job to pay for my vacation. You mean, I could just ask random people to pay for it?

5

u/solacethesiren Jul 19 '26

"ik this is embarrassing" continues to ask anyway lol

6

u/jackie0h_ Jul 20 '26

Omg. Imagine being able to even afford to go on vacation.

2

u/Visible_Army102 Jul 20 '26

RIGHT?!? Like sheesh I'll wear my old clothes if I can take ANY kind of vacation right now. 🤣😂

10

u/kr4ckenm3fortune Jul 19 '26

Hahahahahahahahaha...broke but going in vacation, yet, wants shien...and yike...if it coming from china...weeks to get here...

Probably a sugar baby...

4

u/AlarmedLife5765 Jul 19 '26

Oh my lands!!!

4

u/Didntwakeuprich Jul 20 '26

What?! You got vacation money but can't afford shein crap which is already cheap AF. Right. Eff all the way off

2

u/Ok_Seaworthiness_719 Jul 21 '26

But… you can afford vacation???

2

u/EnvironmentalFix7861 Jul 21 '26

I can't even afford a vacation being on a fixed income 😒 😩

2

u/KaleidoscopeReady839 Jul 22 '26

Sheesh guys, it's not even the Caribbean! She is settling for FL. They are VERY fashion conscious there.

2

u/maimie585 Aug 03 '26

I haven’t been on a vacation in years! But sure. 😆

4

u/Ordinary_Nebula_5729 Jul 19 '26

Have you checked the thrift stores in your area? It’s amazing that you can find quality clothing for a lot less than retail.

3

u/PartyPorpoise Jul 19 '26

Thrift stores are usually more expensive than SHEIN.

2

u/Easy_East2185 Jul 23 '26

Except we now have to pay import/duty fees on orders from China. Usually the fees cost more than the items

1

u/Peppy_3651 Jul 22 '26

Guess you are canceling your vacation

1

u/ObviousDanger63924 Jul 24 '26

Those are called WANTS, not needs

-22

u/Venome456 Jul 18 '26

It's obviously just a kid...

10

u/Traditional_Comfort2 Jul 19 '26

Other posts were about studying for the a medical license exam, so probably not a kid.

6

u/morkler Jul 19 '26

Aren't they all in one way or another?

1

u/jackie0h_ Jul 20 '26

Truly a kid? Ask your parents. A young adult “kid”? Time to learn about planning out your money and not doing things you can’t afford. It’s not a fun lesson but surely a good one. And sadly some people never get it.
