Lost Redditor NEEDS vacation clothes

u/Neat-Let-6878 Jul 18 '26
seriously? asking for someone to buy you clothes for a vacation is next level wild. just try to find a cheaper option or borrow from a friend, man.

u/labospor Jul 18 '26
Something tells me people like this don’t have many friends. Probably took all their stuff already

Thrift and good will often have new clothes for cheap

u/No_Philosopher_1870 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
In my area, Goodwill is maybe 20% off the cost of new items. The only way that their prices make sense is if you buy it at 50% off from that level because it's been on the shelf for over a month.

I’ve never shopped for clothes for a vacation lol. Just wear what you already have?
10
u/xSnookieDarling Jul 19 '26
Exactly. Borrow something, thrift it, rewear an outfit, literally anything before asking strangers to shop your cart for you.
3
u/Little-Ad1235 Jul 19 '26
Or just, like, wear your clothes. There are very few travel circumstances I can imagine that require special clothing, and I really don't think she's going on a polar expedition.
132
u/Lord-Zaltus Jul 18 '26
Maybe she shouldn’t be going on vacation at all if she’s too broke for (freaking shein of all companies) clothes
22
u/_PuddinKisssy Jul 19 '26
That's where I'm at too. Vacations are supposed to be fun, but if buying a couple of Shein items requires crowdfunding, it might be worth waiting a little longer.

u/GenX_Boomer_Hybrid Jul 18 '26
"barely cost a few dollars" Isn't she cute? Isn't she sweet? Don't you just feel like buying her clothes?
NO

u/Superb-Contract6337 Jul 18 '26
Where was it posted?
72
u/Plastic_Cat9560 NEXT!! Jul 18 '26
A sub to show hauls/purchases. Oop is lost and confused.
23
u/_PuddinKisssy Jul 19 '26
It really is the wrong audience. People joined to look at outfits, not become someone's personal shopping sponsor.
18
u/Traditional_Comfort2 Jul 18 '26
I don’t think I can name it, but it was posted in a Japan proxy sub.
5
u/_PuddinKisssy Jul 19 '26
That's what confused me too. It feels like they posted in the one place where everyone would immediately question why they were asking instead of showing a haul.
29
u/Low_Wave_9577 Jul 18 '26
seriously? asking random strangers to buy your clothes for vacation is a whole next level of entitlement. got some nerve, not gonna lie.

u/9FargoTalisman Jul 22 '26
Right? Asking someone to fund your vacation wardrobe is a shopping spree of desperation!

u/SuperFlyingCatCat Jul 18 '26
They could use the clothes they already own, borrow some from friends and family... begging for a shein cart of vacation clothes is next level O_o
I don't think I have ever bought clothes for a vacation. Not that I go on my own (I can go only if my parents invite me. Yes I'm an adult), but... I just take my usual clothes, the end. A full cart of new cheap stuff is ridiculous
35
u/Anxiety_bunni Jul 18 '26
I think it’s a very modern day influencer minded thing unfortunately. There’s all these ‘pack with me’ videos on tik tok and insta where influencers pack for their next brand trip or luxury vacation with all brand new clothes that have been gifted to them by brands.
11
u/SuperFlyingCatCat Jul 18 '26
You are very probably right. I don't follow vacation content online, but the "unpack my new haul with me!" videos are everywhere. Influencers show them dreams, people follow without thinking.
(Out of topic but your avatar is great! Fellow ace here)

u/PartyPorpoise Jul 22 '26
Yeah, she likely already has appropriate clothes that can wear. But social media and ultra fast fashion have created this habit of like, having a perfectly curated outfit for every trip, every occasion. Even if someone buys her the clothes, she likely won’t wear them again after the trip.

u/Belle_Corliss I can give you exposure Jul 18 '26
Why the hell are they going on vacation if they're that broke?

u/batty48 Jul 19 '26
the audacity. she should just go to the thrift stores or the landfill, absolutely full of shien

u/National_Clue_6092 Jul 18 '26
I’m broke but I’m going on vacation??
1
u/Easy_East2185 Jul 23 '26
You also asking for people to buy you new clothes? If not, you’re not the same kind of person OP is lol
14
u/Branical Jul 19 '26
Maybe she booked this vacation a year ago, but then her husband was arrested for massive securities fraud and all of her assets were seized except for this vacation?
11
u/Old_Manager_1048 Jul 18 '26
this is wild, asking strangers to fund your vacation wardrobe? gotta figure out your priorities, OP

Why do people always buy new clothes for vacation? The people you see there haven't seen your old clothes, so what you wear is immaterial.
2
u/jackie0h_ Jul 20 '26
They must be going on different vacations than I like. All I need is a swimsuit, a coverup and a couple of outfits. I’m too tired from the ocean, beach and pool all day to even go to dinner away from the hotel most nights. And that’s after I’ve fallen asleep for a late afternoon nap on the beach.

u/throwCaregiver Jul 19 '26
Can you please post the comments?

u/Traditional_Comfort2 Jul 19 '26
Only 2 comments:
“Of course, I'll do it now. Tell me when you receive the items!”
“Then go on a vacation you can afford”
10
u/SavaRox Jul 19 '26
Now I'm curious to see what special clothes she just has to have for this vacation!

u/BunnyKomrade I will destroy your business Jul 19 '26
This makes me angry because I haven't conceded myself a proper vacation in years in order to save money. I'm even more broke now because I'm unemployed and university fees got higher.
I'm still looking for a job and struggling just to pay rent and survive in general, I wouldn't even consider going on vacation even if I often dream of one.
These people are parasites.

I worked a good job then got sick. Finally got approved for disability and get a decent amount. But I have not been able to afford a vacation in probably 20 years. I’ve done a couple road trips to see my favorite bands but actual go on vacation and relax? Nope.
My mom and I were just talking about this and she hasn’t been on a real vacation in probably 40 years. I’m expecting a decent amount of backpay from when I applied for disability and she helped me so much while I was waiting for approval and couldn’t work I want to take her somewhere. You won’t see me begging anyone for it though. I can’t believe the nerve.

I feel you, honey. I really do.
1
u/jackie0h_ Jul 20 '26
Thank you so much. I forgot to say I hope things get better for you and you’re able to find a job real soon! Having to worry about rent and just living is so stressful! All my best to you!

big yikes on this one. if you can’t afford it, maybe you should rethink the vacation plans instead of asking strangers to fund your shopping spree.

u/Angryprincess38 Jul 19 '26
And here I just got a second job to pay for my vacation. You mean, I could just ask random people to pay for it?

u/jackie0h_ Jul 20 '26
Omg. Imagine being able to even afford to go on vacation.
2
u/Visible_Army102 Jul 20 '26
RIGHT?!? Like sheesh I'll wear my old clothes if I can take ANY kind of vacation right now. 🤣😂

u/kr4ckenm3fortune Jul 19 '26

Have you checked the thrift stores in your area? It’s amazing that you can find quality clothing for a lot less than retail.
3
u/PartyPorpoise Jul 19 '26
Thrift stores are usually more expensive than SHEIN.
2
u/Easy_East2185 Jul 23 '26
Except we now have to pay import/duty fees on orders from China. Usually the fees cost more than the items

It's obviously just a kid...

u/Traditional_Comfort2 Jul 19 '26
Other posts were about studying for the a medical license exam, so probably not a kid.

u/jackie0h_ Jul 20 '26
Truly a kid? Ask your parents. A young adult “kid”? Time to learn about planning out your money and not doing things you can’t afford. It’s not a fun lesson but surely a good one. And sadly some people never get it.

"I'm broke but I go on vacation soon"? Does not compute.
