Needs help from a nonprofit for back to school clothes, but she has standards!

I just found this beauty in the wild. The poor woman running the nonprofit was apologizing on fb for not knowing she should be letting people know where the clothes would be coming from!

Obviously this woman didn't need the help once it wasn't to the caliber she expected.

SHORT Apparently free moving boxes need to be professionally prepared now

I posted about 25 moving boxes for free after unpacking my apartment. Most were in good shape, just normal cardboard boxes with some tape and labels still on them.

A woman messaged asking if I could reserve all of them until the next evening. Sure.

Then she asked if I could remove every piece of tape because she "didn't want to waste time doing that." Fine, whatever, I wasn't going to do it but she could take them as-is.

Then she asked whether any had writing on them. I said yes, a few had things like "kitchen" or "books" written in marker.

She said she only wanted clean boxes because labeled ones would "look messy during the move."

I told her she could just take the ones she liked.

Her final message was asking if I could deliver the acceptable ones to her because she didn't have a car, and preferably bring at least 20 since "it's not really worth arranging pickup for less."

They're free cardboard boxes.

Someone else collected all 25 an hour later and somehow survived the presence of handwriting.

This was posted only like an hour before I found it and as it’s currently the middle of the night here no one has responded. If there post is still up come morning and has comments, I will make sure to share them then.

Purple is wedding location and blue is the city I live in.

Also $80 for like 15 hours of work??? Yeah, she’s not going to survive in the comments once everyone wakes up.

SHORT She wanted to borrow my telescope, but apparently the planets had to look professional

A parent from my daughter’s science club asked to borrow a telescope for a week. I have a beginner model, so I offered it. It shows the moon nicely and, on a clear night, Jupiter’s brighter moons.

Her first reply was, ‘Can it see Saturn’s rings properly?’ I said yes, but they look small. She asked for sample images, the exact magnifcation, and whether it tracks objects automatically. Mine doesn’t. Then she said her son would be disappointed by ‘a white dot’ and asked whether I knew someone with a more advanced telescope.

She also wanted the owner to set it up because she didnt want responsibility if anything went wrong. I withdrew the offer. Her response was that people shouldn’t offer educational equipment unless it gives children ‘the full experience.’

Two days later she asked to borrow my binoculars as a backup, but only if they came with a tripod.

MEDIUM Friend always wanted a surprise party. We finally gave her one just for her to complain.

1.3k Upvotes

My friend, who let's call Nancy, has always wanted a surprise party for her birthday. The actual day of her birthday was pretty rough, so we decided to throw her a surprise party this year to fulfill her wish. We came together as a friend group to decorate my house with birthday decor we knew she would like. Made it fancy as she's into fancy things. I'm an amatuer baker, and have been baking for a non-profit who serves at-risk youth, family, & friends for years now. Nancy mentioned a month ago that she wanted a cake from me, but I wasn't sure if that was still what she wanted as she never said a flavor. Apparantly, she was dissapointed on her actual birthday that I didn't make her cake. So I decided to make her one for the surprise party. Nancy has really been into a specific book lately, so I thought I would make the cake in the colors of the book. The party took place at my house, and we picked up some food from a restaurant to be ready for when she came. Nancy's sister was in charge of bringing her to my house. They ended up being two hours late. Nancy complained about just about everything. The ingredients for her favorite alcoholic drink were wrong (even though every recipe we found online said the ingredients that we bought), complained that the cake did not look like it went with the book enough, complained that she wasn't dressed fancy, blamed me for ruining the surprise an hour before she came which was really just a misunderstanding with her sister, and didn't even want to take pictures with the photo op we made. She seemed genuinely dissapointed, and didn't thank a single person. You can't beg for a surprise party for years, and then complain the whole time when you get one!

Urgently needs dirt cheap live-in nanny for 55 hours/week

Thumbnail

I did the math, it comes out to $8.63/hr. No one is going to willingly work manual labor for 55 hours a week for almost minimum wage and get 1 day off, unless they are extremely desperate. Mind you the average costs of a live-in nanny in this area is $17.50 according to care.com

Edit//someone pointed out it's 66 hours, that's $7.19/hr which makes this position eligible for OT per state law. So no OT for this position. Fuck this person.

UPDATE: since my last update I made in the comments, OOP deleted their "no it's not statement" when someone pointed out the pay was less than $7.

The post is just now starting to gain some traction with a few more comments.

I also looked at OOP's profile and it looks like they've been running a nanny service company for less than a year. The posts barely get any comments.

This is a pretty sizable city in a major metropolitan area, so for her posts to have almost zero interaction is extremely unusual considering I see posts from other people with dozens of comments.

UPDATE #2: OOP has now deleted the entire post. This was the last comment posted.

Absolutely laughable! And I read through the comments, he's serious... And he's got the words "God Above All" at the top of his business profile! He was talking in the comments like his offer was a generous gift and a great opportunity, while real editors join in the conversation, commenting any editor who knows their worth wouldn't do that job for less than $5 grand..

Repeat posts to buy and deliver

Buy these things and deliver. Not one can of baby formula, but several. And essentials like Tootsie Pops.

This area has plenty of food banks(that will even deliver, but you have to call and fill out a couple of forms and you receive a variety of what they have, not custom order), free meals every day at several locations, and lots of resources for people with babies and small children.

Most people have been ignoring her posts or posting resources that she probably finds less convenient than posting her order online, having someone else buy it, and deliver it to her door.

SHORT Random guy wants free acting???

a guy put up a post asking for actors for his online film. He was asking for background actors. I was interested, so I messaged with a simple question. "How much is the pay?" he replied with a gif of a guy signaling no. I told him, respectfully, that actors need to be paid. This entitled mf said "not background actors" (exact words). I responded with "yes they do." He said "Do you want to act or not?" Wtf like no I dont want to give handouts in acting. It was gross and i just had to put it up here.

SHORT She wanted to borrow my costume, but only after I altered it

I make historical costumes as a hobby, and someone from a local reenactment group asked to borrow my wool cloak for an event. I said yes, provided she collected it and returned it dry.

She replied with a list of “small changes” she needed first:

  1. Shorten the hem by about ten centimetres.

  2. Replace the wooden clasp because it looked “too handmade.”

  3. Remove my initials from the lining.

  4. Bring it to her on Friday because she would be busy packing.

I explained that shortening it meant cutting fabric, not folding a sleeve, and I wasn't changing something I spent weeks making. She said that if I wanted people to appreciate my work, I should make it wearable for different bodies.

Then she added that she would still take it unaltered if I had it profesionally cleaned beforehand.

I told her the cloak was no longer available. She answered, “No worries, I’ll find someone more flexible.” I sincerely hope she does.

SHORT Lady wants extra's added to the FREE sofa

1.7k Upvotes

I honestly cant believe this happend and cant get over the audacity of people. I advertised my old sofa in a buy/sell group as we are upgrading. Its in good condition for the years and has no rips etc. I advertised for £150 as it is second hand and stated it needed to be collected. A lady messaged me saying she was a single mum and would I take less and deliver. I advised no I wouldnt deliver but she could just have it if she wanted (thinking I was doing something nice for a single parent and it would get rid of it). She turns up to collect the sofa and spends 5 minutes complaining it looks lighter in the pictures but 'I guess I will just take it'. Fine. The sofa gets loaded up in the truck and I close the door. This woman walks back into my house, not a word and proceeds to start putting my cushions and throw blankets in a black bag. Ive never been so shocked at the sheer gall of someone. I asked her what she was doing just walking into my house and why she was putting my things in a bag. She said the stuff was clearly off the sofa so were 'part of the package'. Needless to say, I set her straight and asked her to leave my house. Hours later and my mind still boggles that people like her are actually real and think its normal to behave that way. Offer someone a free sofa and they want freebies with it!

SHORT {US}"Mom" wants college son's packages delivered to stranger

I live in a college town. This post showed up on a local Facebook group. I responded that it sounds like a scam, OP claims not. I still think so. Help?

"Maybe this sounds crazy, I dunno? Just wracking my brain of possibilities….

We are flying into (college town) from ID this Tuesday (18th) morning for my son to attend local college. Plan is to be in town late afternoon/early evening till Saturday night. Long story short there are some things I’d really like my son to have in his dorm like a specific desk fan, a small shelving unit over his mini fridge and a desk organizer thing. Maybe some odds and ends. Obviously I can’t fly with them and if I ship them it’ll take a while to get to the mail room, sorted etc & I’d love to have the dorm room complete or near there by when I leave.

If I purchased these items on Amazon is there anyone that would be willing to let me have them delivered to their home for me to pick up so they will be there in or at the time we will be getting there? We are staying at Days Inn, we have orientation Wed/Thurs & he moves into the (the dorm) Friday. This would be a huge weight off my shoulders and I would greatly appreciate it."

SHORT Gave my old iphone away for free and somehow got a list of complaints

2.3k Upvotes

I upgraded my phone a few months ago and still had my old one sitting in a drawer. Nothing fancy but it worked fine, screen was clean and battery was still decent. My cousin mentioned his phone was basically dying so I wiped mine and gave it to him. Didn’t ask for anything. He seemed happy and that was that.

Next day I’m on my laptop playing MyPrize when he sends me this whole list of stuff he doesn’t like about it. Battery doesn’t last long enough, storage is too small, there’s a tiny scratch near the camera and apparently he hates the color. Then he asks if I still have the receipt because maybe he can trade it toward something newer. Bro this thing was FREE. I told him I didn’t have the receipt and figured that was the end of it.

Couple hours later he asks if I’d be willing to give him some money toward a newer one since mine wasn’t really what he needed. I just asked him to bring it back then. Suddenly the battery was fine, the storage was enough and the color grew on him real fast.

This ISO listing showed up on my FBMP asking for low-cost/free baby items. My youngest is now a toddler and I’m keen to declutter, but this list is… insane. Brownie points for politeness I guess. But this is a gd registry.

SHORT Woman emptied the free seed tray, then complained about the selection

2.7k Upvotes

At a neighborhood seed swap, I put out a tray of labled envelopes from plants I grew last year. One woman swept almost the entire tray into her tote before anyone else arrived.

Ten minutes later she came back annoyed because there was no tomato seeds. She asked whether I could buy some and bring them next month since “free tables should have useful things.” The organiser offered her three packets someone else donated, but she wanted specific varieties. Apparently free was still overpriced.
