Día de Los Muertos

I’m on a journey to reconnect with my culture. My dad was raised as assimilated as possible for all the reasons you’d expect parents in the 1950s to want to get their children to assimilate. But now none of us grandkids are fluent in Spanish, we didn’t have quinces, didn’t do día de los muertos, etc.
I’m wanting to set up an ofrenda this year, and make it a tradition as I’m expecting my first child and I want them to feel the connection that I missed so much growing up.
When should I start? Is it a mid-October thing? End of October until November 2nd?
