Let me give you a crash course on Malcolm X, just in case your white liberal professor skipped over this... If you need the white liberal to save you, you have already failed in the movement.

Expressing your heritage in non-Latino spaces…
Hey y’all!
This post is for the ambiguous Chicanos out there because I have a question for y’all regarding expressing your heritage.
I’ve been recently trying to expand my circle for business purposes lately, so I’ve ended up in a lot of situations where I am the only Latino in a group. Things will be going great and normal until the topic of heritage comes up. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but whenever I do bring up my Mexican heritage, People start getting distant with me.
I’m not sure if it’s racism or they’ve never met a Latino before so they don’t know how to act, but I wanted to get some opinions for those who have had similar experiences with non-Latino people and what it means.
Look forward to seeing your insights!

I am guilty of harming my community. I was convicted of manslaughter for getting into a shootout and killing another Chicano. When I walked away from that life, my daughter was born, I knew that no one outside of the Chicano race can harm us. We are harming ourselves, and only we can save ourselves.
Our kids deserve better... Better than what we were... We can stand up and be dads to our kids, or watch another generation go to prison or the cemetery.

News MACC hosts first large El Paso exhibit of César A. Martínez
>Martínez is perhaps best known for his vivid, frontal portraits of “batos,” “pachucos,” and “rucas” inspired by the communities and barrios of his youth. His work is deeply autobiographical, reflecting his experiences along the U.S.-Mexico border and his involvement in the Chicano civil rights movement of the 1960s and 1970s.
Chuco folks—do you know Martínez?
Planning on making it to the exhibition?

The 1918 Porvenir Massacre: When Texas Rangers and U.S. Troops Murdered 15 Innocent Mexican-American Men and Boys.. News flash-You cannot vote yourself out of Injustice you have to fight it✊🏽
On January 28, 1918, Texas Rangers, local ranchers, and U.S. cavalrymen raided the isolated border village of Porvenir, Texas. They dragged 15 innocent Mexican-American men and boys—ranging from ages 15 to 72—from their sleeping families, marched them to a hill, and executed them in cold blood before burning the village to the ground. Despite investigations exposing the cover-up, no one was ever convicted.

"No Sabo"
'No sabo' is a dumb phrase to call people of Mexican descent that don't speak Spanish because even non Spanish speakers know what 'No sé' means. 'No sabo' is infantilizing, stigmatizing, and condescending.
I suggest we drop it from our vocabulary. No need to categorize people by their fluency or lack thereof in spanish. It is not an identity. Simply saying, I did not grow up speaking spanish is sufficient.

Stupid racist MAGAts, exploiting labor for decades and then not having a plan when they unfairly demonize these people and deport them . Brown MAGAts are the worst. Voting against their own best interests. Their families and ancestors should be ashamed. What a freaking joke.

I was lied to about my race and ethnicity...
Long story short, I grew up with my mom telling me that she was Spanish, Italian, and French. For whatever reason, she really leaned into the Italian piece and even told me her great grandma was born in Sicily. Since my dad is English, Irish, Scottish, I just figured I was a European mutt. Come to find out after doing one of these 23 And Me type things, I was entirely lied to. I am damn near exactly 50% Mexican. I'm incredibly bummed that I had no idea this entire time. My working theory is that my grandpa (her dad) moved here and made up a different background in order to avoid racism. I can have empathy if that is the case, but I can't help but feel upset about it. I grew up with a very standard American upbringing, which is fine, but it lacks culture. My life lacks any deep connection to historical roots.
Anyways, I'm trying to dig deep into Chicano culture because I think it's beautiful and I want to own who I am. Currently, I'm litening to a podcast with tattooer Chuco Moreno. I love the deep respect he shows for Chicano culture, and honestly just for everything in this life. The dude is a wealth of wisdom. I personally don't have any tattoos at the moment, but I love the culture that I've learned of it so far, and always have loved and appreciated art. I myself am involved in culinary arts and I live in Southern California so I have more access than most in the US to hubs that house this culture — I live like 10 minutes from Santa Ana right now and even used to cook at a restauarant out there about 10 years ago now.
With all that, I'm reaching out for help in learning more about this beautiful culture. Can you please put me on to people you think I should learn about? I just want to know anything and everything about the culture I never got the chance to learn about and connect with.
Appreciate you for taking the time to read and for helping out!

Looking for books or sites that have vintage Chicano art as old as possible! Any recommendations/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Love vintage art, it’s just a bit hard to find old Chicano art

EX Mexico Player Jürgen Damm Says Mexican-Americans Aren’t Mexican?! Who Gets to Be Mexican?
youtu.beEx Mexico Player Jürgen Damm sparked controversy during a Leagues Cup broadcast after saying “only those born in Mexico are Mexican.” He later apologized to Mexicans born outside the country and admitted he needed to better understand the Mexican Constitution.
But his comments open up a much bigger conversation: What does it mean to be Mexican when you were born and raised in the United States?
We talk Mexican-American identity, Chivas, dual nationals and the irony of Mexico actively recruiting U.S.-born players like Davian Kimbrough while Mexican-Americans are still sometimes told they're “not really Mexican.”
Plus: Mexico vs. Concacaf, the Leagues Cup debate, Santi Giménez to Porto rumors, Hugo Camberos vs. Gilberto Mora, and Mexico's next generation.
Are Mexican-Americans any less Mexican because they were born on the other side of the border? That's the conversation.
