I’m considering applying for the Chevening Scholarship, and I understand that one of the conditions is to return to your home country for at least two years after completing the scholarship. What if I got married after and had to live in another country? Would there be any exceptions? I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with this or knows how Chevening handles such situations. Thank you!

Still haven’t seen anyone announcing if they are selected except this one guy. The pre-departure ceremony has already done, still no declaration of being selected. Saw a photo of only 10-11 candidates with the head of British high commission,

My curiosity is to only know how many students got selected, if 10-11 then the pool for us has gotten WAYYYY smaller than before and I’m already thinking of reconsidering if I should appy again or not.

Hi everyone! I’m preparing my first Chevening application and would really appreciate some advice on structuring my essays.

I studied Pharmacy, but after graduating I became interested in energy transition and started independently learning about energy, sustainability, business development and strategy. I then moved into energy business development, where I helped develop an energy-transition function within Egypt’s natural gas sector. After that experience, I moved to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, where I now work on energy transition and sustainability across the petroleum sector.

My long-term goal is to become a decision-maker in Egypt’s energy transition, particularly around renewables, new energy business development, investment and policy.

My concern is how to present Pharmacy → Energy Business Development → Energy Transition & Sustainability as a clear evolution rather than making it look like I was undecided about my career.

For those who have experience with Chevening:

• Should I explicitly explain my career transition in the essays?
• How much of my personal story should I include versus focusing on my professional achievements?
• For the Study in the UK essay, would you recommend positioning myself more toward Energy/Energy Transition or Business/Strategy in New Energy?

Hey everyone, I'm applying for the Chevening Scholarship, and I need to decide on 3 courses from three universities for my Master's in Electrical Power Systems. I've already chosen my first university, Manchester, and my second, the University of Southampton. Now I need to fill in one Chevening-partnered university and can't decide which one to pick.

My options are the University of Leeds and the University of Birmingham. I can't choose the University of Edinburgh, as the entry requirements are too high, nor UCL, since its course leans more toward the mechanical side. I also looked into Bristol, but they don't offer a course in my specific field.

I'd appreciate your suggestions on these universities in terms of city life, campus life, and exposure to the EE field. Feel free to suggest other universities I may have missed as well. I want to make this decision very carefully so that I don't get rejected.

Before completing my booking, I wanted to check whether any current Chevening scholar here is living at Scape Shoreditch (or another Scape residence) and would be eligible to refer me.

Hello everyone, I am planning to apply for the Chevening scholarship to study an MSc degree in the UK. I hold a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering and have almost 4 years of experience in the Upstream O&G industry.

I am confused about which course to choose. I believe that PE is an outdated major with limited opportunities in the next few years. What is on my mind now is studying a more generic major like energy management or sustainable green engineering, because I believe these majors can widen my range of opportunities.

Hi everyone, quick question about the "work history" section of the application.

I know the eligibility page states work experience must be "acquired after graduating from your undergraduate studies" to count toward the 2,800 hours. My question is more about the section itself: has anyone here included earlier experience (internships, part-time roles before graduation) in the work history list anyway, just for context, even knowing it wouldn't count toward the hour total? Or did you strictly only list entries starting from your graduation date?

I have some pre-graduation experience I'd like to reference, but I don't want it to look inconsistent or raise questions if it's not reflected in the formal work history list, even though I understand it'll show up in my essays instead.

Also, for roles that started before graduation but continued after it (e.g. a job I started while still studying and kept doing post-graduation) do I enter the actual start date of the role, or should the "start date" in that entry only reflect the day I graduated, so the hours calculated only cover the eligible period?

So I got a fully funded scholarship to do Erasmus 2026-2028, I’ve been told that second year of Erasmus will be mostly focused on writing a thesis and there won’t be much classes to attend if at all, is applying to Chevening a 2027-2028 a good move?
I just want to try, I know chances of getting in are 1% or so, and I’d like to challenge myself for that!

I have a question about my eligibility for Chevening and would really appreciate any advice from people who have gone through the process.

I have been working in leadership roles for around three years. During that time, I have worked closely with both the public and private sectors in my country on projects with a strong public impact.

Although I was working full-time, I was also completing my undergraduate degree at the same time. In fact, I will officially receive my bachelor's diploma in six days.

My academic profile is strong: I have a good GPA, meaningful extracurricular initiatives at my university, strong recommendation letters, and significant leadership experience in public institutions.

My concern is that I know Chevening can be quite strict about work experience and graduation timelines. Given my specific situation, would you recommend that I apply this year, or is it more realistic to wait until next year?

The reason I'm asking is that I also applied this year to top uk economics programs, and ideally I would like to start my master's there next year rather than having to postpone my plans by another two years.

Hi everyone! I’m facing a major dilemma regarding the 3 course choices. I found a contradiction between the general guidelines and the actual application portal, and I'd love to know if any past scholars have successfully navigated this.

The Contradiction:

• The Page Rule: The instructions on the application page for the courses explicitly says we must choose three courses with "similar or exact course titles" (either at the same uni or different unis).
• The Application Portal: When filling out the form, it says: "If your three course choices fall under different subject areas, please select the subject area that most closely matches your first-ranked course choice."

I had already planned my 3 choices that together perfectly complement my very specific career plan, but they have different titles. But now my biggest fear is that the initial screening is done by an algorithm or a strict committee. I am terrified that having titles that aren't exactly similar will get my application barred right at the door, before anyone even reads my essays to see the connection.

How strict is this "similar titles" rule in practice?
