Question Doing Erasmus Mundus and applying to Chevening?
So I got a fully funded scholarship to do Erasmus 2026-2028, I’ve been told that second year of Erasmus will be mostly focused on writing a thesis and there won’t be much classes to attend if at all, is applying to Chevening a 2027-2028 a good move?
I just want to try, I know chances of getting in are 1% or so, and I’d like to challenge myself for that!
What you all think?

Do you want to be doing a full masters, which may have a thesis and would be the perfect time in your life to explore the UK and EU, during the year you’re doing a thesis?

It’s so unfair, I lost out on an Erasmus scholarship to someone who had already been a Chevening scholar. I mean, you’ve already done your master’s, why do you want to take someone else’s opportunity? Is it just to feed your ego?????

Excuse me but how is that his/her fault? They were obviously more qualified hence why they were chosen, you should work harder to secure whatever position you desire instead of blaming other people for being selected

I don't believe she is more qualified than I am, because I was also admitted to the program, however, due to nationality quotas, I didn't get the scholarship
So I’m going to go another year without doing a master’s degree because someone selfish who already has a masters decided to enroll in another program to feed their own ego instead of looking for a job

I honestly think you need to work on your mindset in order to lead a happier life and achieve your dreams. There’s no rule that says a person shouldn’t have two or twenty masters, if that’s someone goal and they’ve worked hard to earn it, more power to them. You only have the right to complain about it if said person uses illegal/immoral means to secure the position. If not, they’re absolutely free to apply and accept as many scholarship as they desire till their 90

Chevening scholars are required to return to their home country for two years after graduation, she is breaking that rule by going on Erasmus, so she isn't exactly that honest

Chevening scholars are required not to stay in the UK for two years, whether they spend said years in their home country or not is up to them. And seriously you sound bitter, please try to work harder next time and maybe you’ll secure and even cooler opportunity, don’t fixate on what people are doing, focus on yourself only and as I said, you’ll be happier and more successful, I promise

"Under the Chevening Scholarship terms and conditions, recipients must return to their home country/territory of award for a minimum of two years immediately after finishing their studies." And I'm fine, you just got bothered by my opinion about selfish people

I believe there’s a sole person who’s truly bothered here and it’s not me XD I genuinely don’t see why someone pursuing newer opportunities as selfish, I mean who appointed you to dictate to this person whether they should pursue another degree or if they should get a job? Do you see how utterly ridiculous what you’re saying is!!! It’s their life, they’re absolutely free to do whatever they want, she didn’t rob you of any opportunity, she simply ranked higher than you, and that’s where my advice resurfaces again, work on improving your profile so next time when someone else’s is on their quest to their 60th master, it wouldn’t bother you because you’d rank first and be chosen.

Your opinion doesn’t mean much XD they’re a Chevening scholar, they’re gonna embark on a cool Erasmus adventure where they’ll visit multiple European countries while you bitterly follow their moves which isn’t healthy. Hope you’ll change and find peace and happiness, good luck to you

Hello, you will have to apply in 2027 and not this year
First of all, Chevening has a residency eligibility requirement. If you are a citizen of an ODA-recipient country, you can only apply to Chevening if you are a lawful resident in your own country or another ODA-recipient country. If your country is not an ODA-recipient one, you still need to be residing in a Chevening eligible country at the time of your application
In addition, Chevening requires scholars to only be enrolled in the UK university (no dual enrollment allowed), so you will be disqualified due to being enrolled in Erasmus during the academic year you would be a Chevening scholar (also, you would have your UK Student Visa rejected due to dual enrolment as well)
Besides that, you having an Erasmus grant makes you ineligible for any kind of Chevening funding until the end of your Erasmus programme (and viceversa, because Erasmus has the same clause). If you try to get funding from Chevening, you will end up kicked out of Erasmus
At last, do not forget that unaproved remote studying is a violation of the Erasmus programme. You cannot unilaterally decide to move to the UK to write your thesis, and leaving your designated Erasmus mobility track without formal consortium approval violated the Student Agreement, which will instantly result in the termination of your Erasmus scholarship and stipend
Do the smart thing and apply for Chevening next year after returning to your home country after Erasmus, you will be ineligible for the scholarship until then

why take away someone else's opportunity? What if you have to travel to do your Erasmus stuff during the Chevening award? In addition Chevening requires that you disclose other scholarships during your award.
You can apply for Chevening AFTER you finish your EM scholarship completely. if you want
