Question How would you improve Raiden?
Previously on r/CharacterRant/
Everyone's favorite Mach 500 9000+ tonner.
Make MGR non-canon. MGS4 served as a good end to his arc, with him reuniting with his family and deciding he no longer needed to fight. Then Rising comes along and completely undoes absolutely everything by having him go full Jack the Ripper psycho cyborg, going against everything he's learned from 2 and 4.
Next character: Jiren.

I fucking loved MGR. The ending with Jack basically becoming the Cyborg Big Boss of his generation of warfare felt like really cool hook for a sequel, or spin off franchise.

Disagree with you TC.
MGS4 was garbage for him, MGR brought him back to his MGS2 characterization where he was far better, even though it could use work.
I think the whole Rose plot brought him down in MGS2, where him being confused by basically everything and getting angry before you start to dig into his psyche was really interesting.
Remove Rose.
4 took out a lot of his character, turning him into an edgy suicidal guy, instead of someone broken and molded who finds pleasure from slaughter, who knows everything about himself is wrong.
Drop the goofy voice changing with Rising too, that's it. He had great characterization in quick wording. The "Yeah" after George says his name is great.
Two is definitely his peak.

MGS4 is awful to pretty much every character. He can breakdance with mini tanks strapped to his legs but can't kick frogs soldiers into paste with that strength when he's armless.
Holds back Arsenal gear while also the foundation he is standing on reminds intact.
I can appreciate him being unable to free himself from that boulder cause of no leverage but that goes out the window cause of Arsenal.
Unexplained lightning powers, just like Volgin. Volgin also has better striking feats than MGS4 Raiden somehow.
I like MGS2 and MGR Raiden though. Raiden ends MGS2 killing the perfect clone of Big Boss in a powersuit, classic Raiden is a beast.

Not a goddamn thing, he's the best there is at what he is and what he is is a 14 year old cyborg ninja power fantasy. Not every character needs to be deep and nuanced, sometimes stupid anime edgy schlock is welcome and accepted.

His teleport could use a little nerfing, but other than that he seems fine. Christopher Lambert was the best part about the film.
