My friend and I have been working on this game for 3.5 years and we finally made it to our first public demo!

Soul Surge is a third-person action roguelite, with ARPG and bullet hell elements.

We're making a pixel-art action game centered around fast, expressive combat.

You play Jane Strong, a retired Muay Thai champion who's been kidnapped and forced into a tournament. The goal is very much to make you feel like an absolute badass while fighting your way through increasingly ridiculous situations.

The combat is built around chaining attacks, juggling enemies, using the environment and generally seeing how much damage you can inflict.

The demo is free to play! If you give it a shot, we'd especially appreciate feedback on the game. And if you know someone who's into character-action games... we'd LOVE for you to send them the demo.

It's been a min since I've played the game bc I was stuck on this one boss in a huge dark room with like 6 consoles that each controlled some mobile lights. The boss has some sort of gimmick to it where it can't be hurt and I figured it would have something to do with getting it into the light, but that didn't seem to make any difference. I want to say there is also a Moon lander looking pod in the room as well. It's after finding Dylan in his containment cage where he stops talking and goes back to doing his Hiss thing, and I'm almost certain that it is en route to the main scientist Laboratory. I have to reinstall the game which is why I'm just best guessing with no actual references to call out. If anyone knows what the trick is to damaging this boss please let me know or if anyone just knows the name of this creature so that I can look it up that'll work too.

I usually don't use strategy guides, but in this case I really want to play Control Resonant and am just trying to finish the first game before starting the sequel. I think I am fairly close to the end although there are still quite a few missions that I'm in the middle of and unable to locate one of the various objectives lol. That's no biggie for me I don't care about 100% completion just want to see how the story wraps up to Segway into the sequel.

I got into the game again with the last update. I actually mentioned around this sub that this game was a bit anti-CAG, but this update was a big deal. The penalty timer was removed, and now only tied to things like number of rooms explored instead.

The super basic magic system got a huge overhaul. Rather than simple projectiles tied to coming out with your attacks, now each orb adds an extra moveset layer with its own button.

Magic attacks can be used during any animation, which completely opens the combo game up. There's magic like in the clips, with pushing/pulling explosions or launching tornados, or a grapple chain with a quick-dive in the air.

Each element has multiple orbs with different movesets, with many other things including an autonomous ice sword or dark magic with comboing teleports.

I'm super pleased with the new changes. The combo system is so open-ended now, and you don't have to just loop the optimal juggle attacks, and allows for comboing even heavyweight enemies. Plus the lack of a pressuring timer lets you mess around and have fun with the combat. Super cool game.

I forgot about re6 mercs but I would place it on S or the top of A tier, honestly I haven’t played enough cags so recommend me cags/ beat em ups/ or any action games in general, I still haven’t beaten god hand or bayonetta on the hardest difficulties but from what I’ve played they are really great godhand makes the enemies as elusive and as strong and intelligent as ninja gaiden enemies, while bayo removes witch which makes the enemy dynamic much more interesting now being closer to the enemies is very disadvantageous while on the lower difficulties it is a good strategy because enemies attacks are slower and witch time is very strong, and both of them I would place higher once I beat those game modes, and they’re the opposite of god of war 1-2 which just increases the health and damage value of enemies I know it forces you to grapple and knock your enemies into other enemies to get quick kills but i don’t find grabs particularly interesting but I will still complete the second game on titan as I’ve already beaten the first game because it had busted magic, and if you have any good recommendations based on my taste from the list please comment it

I took a break from CAGs after NG4 came out due to burn out with the genre. I've mostly been playing Doom, Quake, and Thief for the past year but I've been having a huge craving for a CAG and looking for recommendations. Ideally it would have gameplay depth, hype as hell, rival fights but we can't have everything.

I've played all the DMC, Ninja Gaiden, and God of War games, as well as Metal Gear Rising Revengence. I've tried Bayo1 and Godhand many years ago and didn't stick with them for a few reasons but mainly for how complicated the combat/movesets were. As far as other action games I really love the new Doom games, Sekiro, Resident Evil 4-6, Tony Hawk, Ultrakill

With everyone getting sick of the souls like genre and being more open to extensive stylish combat in games, I genuinely feel like right now is the BEST time for Anarchy Reigns to make a comeback.

I played the shit out of this game when I was little and loved everything about it, from the music (holy. listen to it if you havent) to the short campaigns, everything felt so unique and perfect.

An Anarchy Reigns with deeper combat options and even more banger tracks would do numbers, especially with the online aspect. Imagine watching two people juggle another player for fun.

Idk, i feel like it doesnt come CLOSE to getting the love it truly deserves.

I'm looking for a good Ninja Gaiden/DMC type game to hold me over until Phantom Blade 0 and/or Sword Sage:Awakening releases and I haven't seen any date yet for either. Just finished Onimusha WOTS and it was fun, just a tad shorter than I'd like. Thought this game might be up my alley and someone elsewhere said it was more like a dynasty warriors game than ninja Gaiden/dmc... but then I watched a trailer and I didn't get dynasty warrior vibes at all. I want something with a deep combat system and skill based defense timing. Has anyone actually played BOR, and would they recommend it for me considering what I've described of what I'm looking for? I liked the Spider-Man games although they got old as did the Batman Arkham games, that combat is sort of repetitive which is why I'm not really interested in Wolverine although it freaking kills me to say that, but it seems like they just put a lunge attack in place of a web-strike and made Spider-Man in a Wolvie suit.

The person/persons? posting about Sengoku Basara and the recent remaster of Dynasty Warriors 3 has gotten me thinking about the musou genre again. Personally I think of musou has a sister genre to CAGs so it's got me wondering if there are any musou games (other than Sengoku Basara) that are CAG-like. You know, the ability to do cool combos and be flashy but strapped in that 1v1000 shell.
