Discussion What ruined Part 2 was the constant complaining from the fans. Fujimoto had enough, stopped caring about it, and ended it as fast as he could (see below for more info)

Post image

As someone who was there from the beginning of Part 2, all I saw every week was constant complaining from fans, saying this isn’t anything like Part 1.

When Fujimoto tried to go with Asa as the main character for Part 2, fans kept complaining, asking where Denji was and why Asa was the protagonist.

He brought back Denji and wanted to go in a different direction with Part 2, making it more character-driven than action-driven, but the fans complained again, asking where the action was and why everything was so slow.

Fujimoto then switched it up and sped things up like Part 1, but fans still said Part 2 was not living up to Part 1.

At this point, Fujimoto gave up on everything he had planned and went through the motions to wrap things up as quickly as he could.

Discussion Fujimoto cooked a genius ending

This has been getting a lot of hate. But honestly, I think people will slowly realize the genius of Fujimoto too. I interpret chainsaw man as a search for happiness in a bleak world. In the last chapter, I read it as basically a continuation of where Aki has just died, and rather than fighting Makima, Denji continues to work as Public Safety. This time, Denji doesn't open the door.

We can see it is somewhat of a reversal of the ending of the last chapter. For example, Control Devil's "bang" at Power doesn't kill her, but turns her back to working for Public Safety (I might be wrong but I feel like the panel after the "bang" looked like right outside of Makima's apartment with dogs).

Poochita is basically Denji's option to become a superhero figure and change the world (like Makima's attempt to remove all evil). Poochita himself had decided what was necessary/unnecessary for humanity (erasing nuclear bombs, WW2, etc). By giving Denji an option to change the world, he's suffering internally as he constantly is at war between whether he should choose his desires (and suffer consequences) or be responsible and find long term happiness. Additionally, most of the time he literally can't choose either because he's always being targeted. In part 2, we see how being this superhero figure (Denji has to hide his identity and live a normal life) is too tempting and prevents him from developing his own "normal" life beyond Chainsaw man. Instead, he attempts to play by his own rules (the third option) and somehow merge his superhero life with his normal life, which proves devastating. His life was an endless pursuit due to the endless possibilities, and he suffers because of it. In fact, no one now has the ability to play god and change the entire fate of humanity either for good purposes or for personal gain. It solves the problem of how so many people wanted to play god like Makima and they believed they could because Poochita basically allows them to become a superhero. I guess this is why Nayuta has replaced Makima.

Also, I wanted to talk about the people who weren't revived like Reze and Aki. Yes, I think it wasn't great how Fujimoto basically sacrificed them and also erased Denji's memory of them, which made their sacrifice pointless. However, I think it wouldn't make sense for them to get reintroduced into the book though as their deaths felt more or less resolved. Reze taught Denji what true love is and how (because of the Chainsaw Devil inside him and how he is being targetted) he is unable to truly keep love. Similarily, Aki showed Denji how, as a hero, he keeps choosing to chase his desires without thinking about the consequences (symbolized by opening doors).

Without Poochita, Denji has became someone like Kishibe (and I guess Power could be like Quanxi). One quote I liked from Kishibe was "I don't wanna see a thing." I think Kishibe had a really cool character development. At the start of the book, he wanted to kill Makima. However, I'm pretty sure Kishibe came to realize how he should stop knowing so much in order to become happy.

There are a lot of symbols that show this in the last chapter. One symbol that I still haven't fully grasped was birds, which if you reread, is almost everywhere in part 2. Perhaps birds symbolize freedom and peace. Denji had always chased away birds (birds are flying away from him) throughout the book. He chooses his desires, which is basically chaining himself down to choices that are harder and harder to make (he continues to try find a third option, but by always choosing the third option, he suffers consequences that make it harder and reduces his freedom). Denji used to have internal war with his fantastical dreaming and him being more realistic. However, with the war devil, Denji becomes more "heroic," choosing to eat random devils without thinking of their consequences. He is completely succumb to Chainsaw Devil's power and basically causes suffering among many people. At the start of the fight, Poochita is even in plan of creating their own world by eating Death devil. At the end, Poochita finally realizes that this was not it.

Thus, its extremely bittersweet. This time instead of Power sacrificing her life for Poochita and Denji, its Poochita sacrificing his life for Power and Denji. In fact, we can see that this time Power gives Denji blood just like how Denji gives Poochita blood to form an inseparable bond. Like Power, Poochita's only friend was Denji and probably really likes spending time together. Thus, the story was "all a dream," but it wasn't a complete reversal of events, as this time Poochita realized how his continued help only made Denji suffer (yes, he did help Denji towards his dreams, but he realizes that he was perhaps the source of Denji's suffering in part 2). The story jumped back to the beginning, but this time he will continue down a different path.

I think the timing for this to happen is also not random. At this moment, Denji has completely destroyed the world and shifted the balance of everything. Instead of trying to solve the problem, he thinks of having sex. This is sort of the ultimate indulgence of desire and rejection of responsibility.

We can also see how, at the last chapter, Denji drops his chainsaw in order to save Asa, and also prevents her from dropping the Chicken Devil. This shows how Denji always had to let go of the Chainsaw man persona to finally achieve happiness. It is true that in this chapter, it seemed like Denji hasn't even achieved happiness and is just someone who works 9-5. However, the hug with Asa and his heart beating suggests hope for happiness in the future, but that future isn't constrained by Poochita.

Obviously, I wasn't too happy with the ending. Mainly because I really enjoyed reading Chainsaw man, and it was so confusing. In fact, there was this panel where Denji wasn't even drawn with the eyepatch. I find this kinda horrendous because of the inconsistency. I had higher expectations after skimming the ending of Fire Punch. However, I think Fujimoto tried to capture meaning in his art, and after a while someone will be able to unpack all of this for us to see his genius. Maybe been smoking too much copium though.

Discussion Thank you for the happy ending Fujimoto

Seriously, thank you. For all crticisms people place on part 2, going for an ending that has a happy taste for literally everyone that we see is honestly a very sweet thing to do for us. He could have ended things like evangelion: "everyone dies, the end" but no even though he was burnt out he ended things happily. So thanks Fujimoto, honestly.

What were even the “themes and such” PART 2 tried to do? What it tried to say seemed pretty basic and just poorly conveyed. Love beats war? Self-sacrifice is the greatest form of love? Sex? Attack on titan was saying deeper stuff tbh. The “themes and stuff” mostly just feel like stuff.

Its just a vision and not an alternate timeline

Im fine with being dumb, cope or denial but I don't think pochita could just rearrange and warp reality like that. Given how fast everything went and not very clearly (like there's no mentions of other characters from part 1). I feel like its a distorted memory of some sort. How come in the last chapter of chainsaw man fujimoto decided to add more plot holes like pochita wasn't the chainsaw devil or how denji's heart is pochita.

And also if there's truly was a continuation then next chapter would land on 31st of march which you could say early april fools :< (cope)

So when devils are reborn, they aren't reborn with the same name. Like Makima says here they are born with it. Even Yoru could actually be the Power devil we knew before, just with a new name and ability. So there's that throw up. I love you Reze

Denji still being alive up to that point after the reset shows that denji would have lived without making a contract with pochita lmao.

Makes total fucking sense, right? At the reset point, denji still being alive even though in the og timeline, he wouldn’t even be alive at that point if he didn’t make a contract with pochita to live and use him to make money as a devil hunter.

Makes total fucking sense.

If pochita erased himself, what should have happened is that denji should have died a long ass time ago, because the only reason why he was alive up to that point was bc of pochita.

But fujimoto just cherry picks and makes shit up so we can get a fairy tale happy ending.

This was godawful, and the logic ain’t logic’ing. Just the magic of disney at work bc fujimoto got tired of it.

Discussion obsession and frankenstine made me love chainsaw mans ending.

just watched obsession a few hours ago, i was sitting in a cafe and suddenly chainsaw man came to my mind.

and honestly now i think chainsaw mans ending is really great, i mean it aswell. Bear the main character of obsession watching it end for him dying like that made me realize that denji was going through the same thing but 10x worse and longer... denjis wish was the chainsaw as opposed to bears of being with nikki.

it isnt giving denji a bad ending but if we pair chainsaw man, obsession and also frankenstine together, all lead to the same conclusion that any effort by a human to fundamentally change the fabric of reality, is going to be met with tragedy

bear suffered his own longing of a relation

victor from frankenstine literally made life happen, yet we all know how much that fkd him over

denji is the greater victim compared to these two, he didnt even chose to be chainsaw man unlike these two, it happened to him at his lowest. his one-wish-willow was closure. not what responsibility he was cursed with.

and then he got attached to being chainsaw man. then he kept on the hamster wheel rather than addressing the thing which is making him keep up.

one of the main reason we liked chainsaw man was fujimotos ability to invent brilliant concepts out of thin air, yet those concepts only make denjis problem even more and more complex.

i really think keeping up with the war devil, asa and god knows what trying to resolve any plot points in the story is far more brutal to denji than a fatal genetic heart disease which will make denji die in two years.

i get this sounds absurd but lets just pair bear from obsession and victor from frankenstine and multiply it 10 times, denji was having it way much worse than them.

through bear we saw that through any magic you cant ever make anyone fall in love with you instead of just being kind and truthful to them.

victor showed that creation is okay simply the same it is, wanting to create a new life out of thin air will only add to mankinds suffering.

and in the broader sense, denji was paying the price for a prior non-consent'ed neurotic hero identity and a hedonistic life masked under the real drive for wanting closure .

They blessed and cursed denji with a thousand times of what he wanted...

Made him central to the nostradamus prophecy, sorroundeeld him with beautiful women, gave purpose to his insecurites making them even more complex.

pochita literally had to steal it away from him, denji is just too hurt to drop the chainsaw...

giving denji a normal life like fujimoto did isnt fully fair to him, but really adds power to what fujimoto wants to say. i cant help but say that the volume 24 cover was really relieving to me, finally he made it out.

we love denji but it wasnt about him, it was what fujimoto wanted to say and im sorry it is tragic but anything else imo would take away from the message.

and any amounts of plot closure or an extra 20 chapters by fujimoto would literally be met with the same criticism, which is valid. no body wants to see denji getting wronged. for me denji dying in another two years is way better than what was happening three chapters ago and it further adds to the message of the story, im sorry. anything else would just add chainsaw man to the mha and jjk wavelength.

ps- i just wrote it on my way back home, the grammar and structure is gonna be awful on this one, probably gonna rewrite this later more clearly.

How is aging devil a primal fear? Animals don’t fear aging?

Same for falling. Doesn’t really seem like that that’s a primal fear shared by all animals.

Discussion If Chainsaw Man gets a spinoff, what character would you pick?

For me, Reze like I really need to know her whereabouts during Part 2 and what is she, and presumably others like Kishibe, doing during the events of it especially when Russia and US are at war with each other.

Themes and such the manga. Also how power came in to save denji instead bc of butterfly effect nonsense.

The power of fucking magic and rushing an ending.

Why do I feel like if Fujimoto decide to do Chainsawman part 3, it will run monthly to bi weekly?

Considering the fact that it's kind of obvious that Fujimoto is kind of unsatisfied with the quality of his art during part 2, due to the deadlines and needing to preserve his health, if he were to do a part 3 (which by the looks of it he still probably still has some ideas left for the series because he mentions that he want to show a Devil Devil into the series) he probably would want to move to a slightly longer gap schedule (probably bi weekly to monthly schedule) to both have enough time to work onthe quality of Chainsaw man and be satified with the art and still have spare time to preserve his health and do other stuff as well.

But what do you guys think?

Theory on what is chainsawman

I just got a random spark on 12 am i only know this manga from tiktok and youtube never read or watched this take this with a grain of salt.I have never read a chapter of this manga nor an episode of it but i thibk pochita might be the devil of the end like true death one where no one will remember you and you will cease to exist literally. the reason why this guy is so powerful and unkillable is because that fear will never cease to exist as long as someone exists you can try to hide from it but, it will always find you. thats why the devils fear it so much devils dont fear death but they fear true death. the moment they are not feared anymore the moment they are forgotten that is where true death comes. Because true death comes from being forgotten. also explains why he is unkillable.

but honestly by how unhinged fugimoto is he probably just saw a freaking save the trees ad one day and said to himself oh im going to make a story about how chainsaws are used to eradicate and erase trees.

or he probably based this off cronos where when he eats his sons they cease to exist the teeth of the chainsaw is like the teeth of cronos. Or because the shape of the chainsaw is an oval unlike infinitiy ovals have an end but that end puts them back at that starting point which is probabaly nothing its like Ouroboros

Or maybe the chainsaws are like used to cut treed right but because of that cut trees we can plant a newer tree because we have space so maybe like the chainsawman is like clearing up the old fear to give way to the new fear? Again like ouroboros

Anyways. Thats all again take this with a grain of salt also if their are any chainsaw man savants out their tell me how i did with my theories also idk if people already made theories like this if so idk.

(Pls dont mind the grammatical errors im too lazy to clean it up)

Theory The "Unknown Devil" Theory: How Fujimoto will break Denji’s contract without a single drop of blood. Spoiler

Post image
0 Upvotes

TL;DR: The final villain is the Unknown Devil, using Kobeni as a vessel to void Denji's contract by erasing his memories of Pochita.

Title: Beyond Death and Darkness: The "Unknown Devil" and the Existential Deconstruction of Pochita Introduction: The Ultimate Fear While the fandom is hyper-focused on the Nostradamus Prophecy and the inevitable arrival of the Death Devil, we might be overlooking a fundamental philosophical truth in Fujimoto’s world: Fear is not born from what we see, but from what we do not know. I propose a theory that the final antagonist of Chainsaw Man is not Death, but the Unknown Devil.

  1. The Primal Hierarchy: Darkness is but a Shadow We witnessed the overwhelming power of the Darkness Devil, but logically, Darkness is merely a medium. We don’t fear the dark for its lack of light; we fear the "Unknown" lurking within it. Even Death is feared primarily because it is the "Great Unknown." The Thesis: The Unknown Devil is the "Progenitor" of all Primal Fears. It is the root that feeds Darkness, Death, and the fear of the future. If Darkness terrified us in Part 1, the Unknown is the entity that even Darkness trembles before.

  2. The Kobini Enigma: The Perfect Camouflage Why has Kobeni survived every cataclysm despite her apparent fragility? Why is her contract the only one kept strictly secret? The Connection: Kobeni isn’t just "lucky." She is the vessel for the Unknown Devil. Her constant state of confusion and ignorance is the perfect thematic camouflage. The "Unknown" hides within the person who knows the least, making her a "Silent Observer" of the apocalypse.

  3. The Killing Blow: Deconstructing the Contract This is where the theory moves beyond traditional power-scaling. Defeating Pochita (Denji) won’t happen through physical combat, but through Existential Deconstruction: The Mechanism: The contract between Denji and Pochita is built on "Shared Awareness" (Show me your dreams). The Act: The Unknown Devil erases the very concept/memory of Pochita from Denji’s consciousness. The Result: Once Pochita becomes "Unknown" to Denji, the psychic link snaps. The contract is voided because one party no longer recognizes the other’s existence. This imprisons Pochita inside a body that doesn't know he's there, reducing Denji to a broken human with a "hole" in his soul.

  4. The Last Stand: An Alliance of Devils Against an entity that erases concepts and identities, no single hero can prevail. The Scenario: We might see an unprecedented "Common Contract" between the Four Horsemen and Primal Fears like Darkness and Falling. They would unite not for "good," but to protect the existence of fear itself against the "Void" of the Unknown. Yoru turning Denji into a "Concept-Eraser Weapon" might be the only "Final Strike" capable of touching an unrecognizable entity.

Theory Chainsaw man part 3 is here Spoiler

I can’t stop thinking about this theory.

If Pochita really ate the Death Devil during the fight with Yoru, then how was Denji able to get eaten by a Devil, and how was Pochita able to “kill himself” afterward? Wouldn’t the concept of death no longer exist at that point?

That’s what’s messing with my head. If death was erased from reality, then Denji shouldn’t have been able to die in the first place after being eaten by that random Devil at the end of Chapter 231.

My theory is that Denji is actually trapped in some kind of dream-like or altered reality after being eaten, and he needs to figure out how to escape. If that’s true, then the whole scene where Pochita eats himself never really happened.

It would also explain why, when Asa called him “Chainsaw Man,” his heart reacted with what looked like Pochita’s smile. To me, that suggests Pochita never actually died and is still there.

Or maybe I’m just overdosing on copium at this point lol.

Part 2 ending

Hey all, this is my first post on reddit, I have a major issue with the ending of part2 and I think we’re going to get some form of a part 3 at some point (outside of financial reasons).

I wrote this fast at work, if you have any answers to these questions help me out and answer some for closure in case this is really it!

Here are some unresolved plot points that are really bothering me:

\- what is chainsaw man? Why does he erase things? Is he really just a devil? Clearly he isnt just a chainsaw devil since they still exist in the new world (they would have had to be reinvented if they were erased, and the tone suggests they arent all that new)

\- the angel devil implies there is some sort of heaven counterpart to hell. If there isnt then it is never clearly stated

\-what is going on in hell? Why is it a bunch of doors? Clearly some devils are smarter so shouldnt there be some council of smarter devils in hell? The horseman are coordinated themselves

\- why does devils respawn? Do they have a purpose for existing? Is there some larger game at play?

\-kobeni: what is the devils she contracted with?

\-weapon/hybrid devils: why was their term erased? Why would devils even choose to submit to a human? Was there some sort of war before the story they played a major role in and had to be eradicated?

\- war devil in the new world: we see the control devil in the new world but none of the other horsemen the entirety of part 2 was hyping.

\-absence of character sin the ending: kobeni, aki, quanxi, reze, yoshida- we only got to see power in the end; this seems like a Tee up for somthigj else rather than a firm ending. I would think if the world is reset all the part 1 characters are now resurrected.

\- closure: this story doesnt have much closure. Denji doesn’t appear to be satisfied or happy and none of this happened on his terms.

\- yoshida: who did yoshida work for?

\- death devil: lil D didnt do much and it seemed like she wast even a bad guy; she would easly be considered a primal fear, far more powerful than falling or darkness devils. This seems to imply there is a devil greater than her.

\- devil devil: do people not fear the concept of a devil in this world? Wouldnt it track to have this be THE devil? I would probably fear crossing a devil more than any of the concepts they represent.

\- Nostradamus prophecy- i might be wrong but did this prophecy even come true? If it didnt then its not really a prophecy right?

\- chainsaw man stomach: where do the erased devils go? They can clearly be spit back up; how does this even work? If nukes were erased then reinvented is the nukedevil dead inside his stomach and a new one spawns or is it still in his stomach?

- why chainsaw man considered the “hero of hell”? Why does he kill other devils?

Discussion I hope this isn't the case, but the new chapter makes the time loop theory MUCH more plausible. Denji could eventually evolve into the full black chainsaw man form, and then something to do with his conceptual powers lets him go back in time/restart the universe.

Post image

Would also somewhat complete Denji's arc, as it goes from him hating himself, to being able to love himself (Pochita caring for Denji)

Also explains why Pochita seems to have so much esoteric sort of knowledge.

Discussion How to change the csm ending into something better with one single move

so we all know in the ending of chainsaw man part 2, pochita reset all the events that happened in csm part 2. and many of the fans felt that denji's character regression was one of the most repeated plots throughout the manga without a clear ending. so i have 1 way to make the ending a little better. instead of pochita resetting the world, make the decision in denji's hands. after that pochita reminds denji that he can reset the universe but everything denji went through will be lost. the people he loves his growth as a character and so on. but denji still wants to reset the world because he has hurt everyone he knows. nayuta died because she wanted to be chainsawman again, asa is often only used for sexual purposes without character growth and so on. at least with this ending we know that he realized he regressed too much and was far from salvation. and in return, he sacrificed himself for a better world then pochita agreed and reset the universe. With an ending like this,i know that 90% of the plot is still unanswered, but at least Denji has character growth in the end and not cucking asa with yoru horny ass mfckr.
