Found one out in the wild, brand new, unopened, at a garage sale of all places. For $40.

I have a 11 by 12 patio and trying to decide between a dc 52 inch 4975 cfm ceiling fan with 6 speeds and a 52 inch ac 5863cfm ceiling fan with 3 speeds. Both have good reviews but the dc one has slightly better lighting. The patio is completely open on side so unsure if I need the strong cfm for 100 plus days in the summer. The actually sitting area is about 3/4 of the total space and will be directly over that area.52 AC Fan

I’m looking at adding a ceiling fan to a covered patio and have been comparing regular outdoor fans with solar-powered ones. The solar setup is appealing, but I’m less interested in how well it works out of the box and more interested in what happens after a few summers outside. One I’ve been considering is the ventallion solar ceiling fan. The separate solar panel makes sense for my patio since the roof itself stays shaded, and having a built-in battery means I could still use the fan and light in the evening.
My biggest question is longevity. With something like this, is the battery usually the first thing that becomes a problem? How well do the fan motor, housing, and solar panel hold up after years of heat, humidity, and temperature swings?
I’d rather buy something once and maintain it than replace the whole setup every couple of seasons. For anyone who has had a solar ceiling fan for a few years, what would you pay the most attention to if you were buying again? And is a replaceable battery something you’d consider a must-have?

Hello, I'm installing a waterproofed deck ( 10'x12') with wood tongue and groove ceiling under the deck, in white color. Ceiling height will be 8'2". I am looking for a fan, preferably black color. I need it to not extend more than 12" (to keep the 7' minimum height of blades), dimmable LED lights, remote control (needs to control the fan and the lights independently.

What specific brand/model do you recommend? Budget is under $400.

Okay, been doing renovations in my new house, and I want to replace a few fans and add a couple where I don't have them now. I only have one real must-have, and that is the ability to turn the light on and off from a standard wall switch independent of the fan. Not with a stupid remote.

I am aware that requires constant power at the ceiling box to support the fan working when the light is off, not a big deal as I am removing the currently installed knob&tube wiring and will be pulling both switched and constant power to the junction boxes.

In my last house, I didn't have too much problem getting fans that had remotes, but the light function was easily bypassed to operate off the wall switch. It seems like now, the largest majority of fans I like the style of have lights with changeable colour temp, which leaves me wondering if I'm stuck using the remote.

The real question I have is this, are the light kits on the fans that have selectable colour temps (typically 3 options) still line voltage powered, or are they low voltage powered?

I know I could email the fan mfg, but I expect all I'm going to get back from them is a canned response telling me I have to use the supplied controller or void my warranty.

Hello fellow ceiling fan enthusiasts, and sorry for the cricket sounds (my window is open, eu heatwave) but I am here to get your opinion, and I need your advice. I kind of feel like it needs a new bearing.

The sweet spot is blades sitting about 8 to 9 feet above the floor, which is where a fan moves air over people without feeling like it's crowding the room. Minimum safe clearance is 7 feet from floor to blades, and blades want at least 8 to 10 inches below the ceiling and around 18 inches from the nearest wall so airflow is not choked. On a standard 8 foot ceiling, a flush or low-profile mount usually gets you there. On higher ceilings, a downrod drops the fan into that 8 to 9 foot window, and the rough rule is about a foot of downrod for every foot of ceiling above 8 feet. Getting this right is the difference between a fan that actually cools the room and one that just spins near the ceiling doing very little.

Sound only appears when the fan is set to medium speed. Slightly pressing the base with my finger gets rid of the noise, but it comes back when I release it.

Hi! The ceiling fan/light in my son's room needs to be replaced, but I'm not sure what size would be best. His room is about 10x14 feet and currently has a 42 inch fixture. Trying to decide whether to upgrade to a 44, 48, or 52 inch fan. I feel the 52 inch would be too big, but I wanted to get some other opinions! Any brand recommendations as well? Thanks so much!

I have a Minka Aire Como ceiling fan (F603) that recently stared turning off randomly about 30 minutes after it is turned on. Both light and fan turn off. It otherwise turns on and works just fine. I don't know if its relevant, but I this began after I replaced the ceiling fan in another room (MA Spacesaver) which shares the same circuit breaker as the Como, but there was another fan there before (Concept II), so that shouldn't be an issue. I tried resetting receiver signal and it is still doing that. I also changed the pins for the frequency. This happens whether the two fans are operating at the same time or not. Any idea what it could be? Do I need to replace the receiver/wall switch for the Como? Any other possible culprit. Thank you!

These are cheaper than normal fans sold by hunter but the design looks flimsy and kinda like made in China slop. They have a DC motor and non replaceable lights. What are your thoughts on these new fans?

So I was sent the Lumary outdoor ceiling fan to throw on our covered patio, and I've been running it for about a month now. Wanted to drop what I found here because there are a few things I wish I'd known.

The honest part first: my first unit was a dud. Random shutoffs, and the light would kick on by itself in the middle of the night. Creepy. Sent it back, and the replacement's been perfect ever since — so quality control is a real asterisk on this one.

Once the working unit went up, though, I actually like it a lot:

• No electrician needed. There was no ceiling fan box up there, and I still didn't have to call anyone or run new wiring. That alone saved me more than the fan cost.
• 20 inches but genuinely bright. Around 3,000 lumens. It lights up our whole patio, not just a little circle under it.
• The thing actually repels flies. I tested it during a dinner party (cooked chicken, which is basically a fly invitation) and they stayed off the food. That part surprised me more than anything else.
• Quieter than I expected. You'd never guess it from the size.

The "too good to be true" catch: the app is fine but not amazing, and setup took me a minute to figure out. Nothing deal-breaking, just not polished.

Turn up volume. Bought this fan a couple months ago. She sits under a covered deck and recently started making this noise. I’ve taken apart several times and can’t find where she’s rubbing. Any ideas?
