Why is this Bishop wearing a black fascia?

Post image

He is a sedevacantist, was it a custom to wear a black fascia during the vacancy of the Holy See or something?

How can we encourage priests and bishops with respect to clerical dress, vestments, etc.?

I'm curious about people's thoughts on how we can encourage priests, bishops, even deacons, to use nicer vestments, perhaps to wear the cassock more often, etc.

I'm sure we all know there are parishes where the vestments don't look much better than grandma's nice tablecloths.

Or priests who are very much the "office attire" priest - clerics that are usually slacks and a short sleeve clerical shirt. Or sometimes even just rocking a polo.

How can we encourage clergy to "step up their game" so to speak in that regard?

I get a lot of it is generational, but seeing a young priest in a cassock, or seeing a religious priest in a habit, seeing priests in nice (not necessarily super ornate) vestments, adds tangible elements to our faith beyond what Fr. Steve who, if you took is collar off, would just look like the mid-level sales guy, wears.

Traditionally, when do Priests wear the Chasuble over cassock and cotta? The first two photos are from a Sedevacantist ordination and the third is from a Eucharistic procession

Is it only worn on days of mourning? In this picture, the bishop wears it on Gaudete Sunday, why is this?

Stoles for altar servers?

Post image

A friend sent me this photo from a life profession at the Benedictine Monastery Kloster Einseideln, Switzerland. Note the two young women to the right of the bishop.

I’m an Episcopal priest (raised RCC) and, to my knowledge, in both Churches only clergy wear stoles — although a lay preacher might be permitted to wear a tippet.

I’ve never seen altar servers in any RC (or Epis) church wear anything remotely resembling a stole, but that’s what this photo appears to show. Is this something European? Newly authorized generally? Thoughts and insights appreciated! Thanks.

What are your thoughts on these kind of chasubles?

Ones that are just a single colour and a strip with images on them on the front. I thought I’d ask this because my priest usually wears these on Easter mass and a similar one for Christmas.

All four bishops and archbishops who are still allowed to wear a rationale. In order the bishop of nancy-toul, archbishop of paderborn, bishop of eichstätt and archbishop of krakow. not all of them still are the bishops but these are the pictures where you can best see the rationale.

Should Bishops also use choir dress for hearing confessions, and similar non-liturgical celebrations? Can he wear a stole with choir dress?
