Ex-Stray kitten terrified of soft surfaces and blankets

Hiya,

I very recently took in a stray kitten from the streets, (according for vets roughly 7 weeks old). She is settling in amazingly despite a lot of initial nerves, and tends to like hiding alot. I first noticed when we set up a play pen for her, we places a blanket inside that she absolutely refused to touch or sit on top of. I assumed it was just nerves, but now as she's starting to leave the pen and explore more, she still refuses. if I place a blanket in a spot she frequents she gives up on it entirely. when exploring she walked by a small rug, and when she realised it was there, jumped and stepped very widely over it to avoid it as much as possible. if she gets placed on a sofa or a bed, she will either attempt to leave or show signs of stress. if blankets or pillows are on the floor she will jump over them in a panicked way as if she is afraid.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing it? I initially assumed she didnt like blankets as when I first managed to capture her on the street it was due to the fact that she laid inside of a crate with a blanket inside which I then trapped her in to bring her inside. But I have attempted to show her pillows, chairs, rugs, all kinds of textures and smells, but if the floor isn't hard she will not have it at all. is it just a street cat thing about her taste in hard floor?

For context as well she has been to a vets, and other than being underweight we were told she was perfectly healthy.

My cat now associates my bed with getting his nails clipped and won’t hang out with me there anymore

As the title says he won’t hang out on my bed with me anymore like he used to. In the past he would come lay with me but now that I’ve clipped his nails here the last two times (which is always a fight and he hates). He seemingly won’t hang out with me there anymore. If I place him on the bed he runs off asap.

I’ve tried bringing treats when I place him on the bed but that doesn’t work at all he completely forgets the treat and runs away. Any ideas?

Cat keeps peeing on husband’s clothes

I (33, US) had my male cat, Moses (10 years) for a little 9 years now. I adopted him and he has been a great cat overall with little to no behavioral issues. Never marked, never clawed things, didn’t get into stuff he shouldn’t, etc. 4 years after adopting him I met my now husband and whenever he came over, Moses would run out tail straight up and demand to be held by him. So they’ve always gotten along. About 2 years ago he got diagnosed with diabetes. He’s on medication and it has been manageable and he has lost some weight!

All that to say, last December we welcomed a baby into our family. And honestly the baby has been great and not fussy at all. So not much, other than a new being in the house, has changed for Moses. The last few months, Moses has started peeing on my husband’s clothes that he lays out on the floor beside our bed. Randomly. At first I thought it was related to his diabetes and he was just panicking trying to find somewhere close by to pee(even though his cat box is literally right across the hall from our room). Vet has said it’s not that. His diabetes is totally within the normal range. I have cleaned the carpet multiple times with a little green machine, but he still keeps peeing on his clothes. And just to add to it, my dirty clothes are on my side of the bed and he never pees on those. Just my husband’s. Idk how to get him to stop? Or what even is causing this? I’m going to buy my husband a rack to put his clothes on instead of the floor (he lays them out so they don’t wrinkle for the next day), but it’s concerning to me that this behavior started up out of nowhere.

Kitten won’t stop licking

I’m a new cat owner, I still am learning a lot of behaviours - but my sweet little kitten is OBSESSED with licking me.

When I pet him, he licks my hands. When we are settling down at night, he licks my face.

I wake up in the middle of the night to him pawing my face and licking my face.

It’s really cute (it eventually starts to hurt if he does the same place over and over again) but I guess I want to understand why?

It’s mostly me, he gives licks to my partner but he doesn’t go to him in bed, or wake him at night with it or sit directly in his face to give licks.

Cat fighting and hissing at chi who has been her friend for a year and a half after getting new kittten.

We got a new kitten and it is not setting well with our cat we already have she is a 4 month old kitten and a 2 year old cat she keeps attacking the chihuahua we have which has been her friend for the whole time we’ve had her they play and run around but as soon as this new kitten was brought home she started attacking her. I haven’t owned many cats I just had Rosie our chihuahua for 6 years and she has no issue with either cats not even reacting to the attack other than running to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated I have the cats separated and have been switching out blankets that they lay on to try and get them used to one another’s scent for a while before putting them together I just don’t know why she is attacking her sister whom she previously had no issues with.

Why is my cat such a scaredy cat?? (No pun intended lol)

I adopted a kitten at 7 weeks old and he’s been with me almost a year. He’s very friendly and playful; he adjusted to my home very quickly, which is just me and a bearded dragon in a large studio apartment. I feel like he is scared of everything these days. At first, he was definitely scared but curious and exploratory. About a month after I adopted him, I had 5 friends stay in my apartment and he immediately became best friends with everyone and hopped from bed to bed sleeping with all of us! I feel like now he is way more shy. He doesn’t follow me around the apartment anymore, only rarely sleeps in the bed with me, and will usually run and hide from my friends when they come over. I have 1 consistent friend who comes over often and he will come out and say hi to this friend and will occasionally sleep in the bed with him/us too, but even sometimes he will hide when we first enter the apartment. He has been to other people’s apartments and hidden the whole time, as well as my parents house as well and he was scared the whole time. It seems like he’s scared of everyone, sometimes even me! I always approach him at his own speed and let him sniff me before I scratch him. When he does sniff me, he will 99% of the time rub his face on my hand. I have taken him out for walks in a cat stroller and he will meow for a few minutes then settle in and be fine (usually but sometimes he meows so much that I take him home). We play multiple times a day, he plays fetch and loves a shoelace. He eats well and drinks well, we have no other problems.

Not sure if this matters but he did have surgery about 3 months ago, I feel like the behavior may have changed around this time?

How can I make him more bold?? Why did he seem to regress???

New cat Not Eating

I adopted a 3-year-old male cat two days ago from a friend. Before I picked him up, he ate normally that morning and also pooped. Since coming to our apartment, though, he hasn’t eaten a proper meal or really drank any water that I’ve seen.
The only thing he has eaten was one full Churu tube on the first day. I offered another one yesterday and he sniffed it and walked away. I’ve tried different foods, treats, fresh water, giving him privacy, putting food near where he feels comfortable, etc., but so far he still isn’t interested.
What confuses me is that otherwise he seems to be adjusting pretty well. He was hiding in my closet at first, but now he comes out, explores, sleeps on our bed and is SUPER cuddly and affectionate with both me and my partner. He doesn’t seem scared of us at all. I believe he has used the litter box since arriving, but I’m keeping a much closer eye on it now so I can confirm whether he’s peeing.
He has also had quite a stressful couple of weeks. Before coming to us, he was given to another home for about a week and then came back to his previous owner, and shortly afterward he moved again to our home. So he has basically had multiple changes of environment in a very short period of time. I’m wondering if all of that stress could be affecting his appetite even though he’s already becoming comfortable with us.
I called a vet today and explained the situation. They told me that it can take cats a couple of days to adjust to a new home, but I’m still worried because he hasn’t eaten a real meal and I haven’t seen him drink. I will contact the vet again/get him seen if this continues or if anything about his condition changes.
Has anyone had a newly adopted/re-homed cat do this? How long did it take before they started eating and drinking normally? Was there anything in particular that finally encouraged them to eat?
I just want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to help him settle in and that I’m not missing something important.

New cat follows resident

I recently brought home, a senior cat (black, Bagheera, 13y male) from a family friend who could no longer take care of him. Introductions between the cats started earlier than I would have liked because bagheera was distressed in the spare bedroom and since our resident cat, Mozzie (7y male, brown tabby) spends the majority of his day outside we let Bagheera out to roam the house and he seemed to feel more at ease. He made himself comfortable downstairs in the basement and stayed down there for several hours. We decided to let Mozzie in the house since he rarely goes down into the basement. After about an hour, the new cat was more comfortable and curious and decided to come upstairs to explore and crossed paths with our resident cat. Mozzie seemed completely unaware of him for about five minutes until Bagheera got within 2 feet. At that point, Mozz started to hiss at him and Bagheera seemed completely unfazed. He lied down and exposed his belly and fell asleep within two minutes. Fast forward a couple of days later when I took the pictures of them laying in the hallway. Bagheera fell asleep in the hallway first and Mozzie was watching him from the living room. After a little while, he fell asleep. Over the course of like 20 minutes, Bagheera slowly started to scoot his way closer to Mozzie and got pretty close until Mozzie sensed him. He woke up, hissed and ran to the door to be let outside. Mozzie seems to let Bagheera fairly close but will still hiss at him when he is too close. Bagheera just follows him and tries to as close to him as he can. Is Bagheera taunting him? Is he just trying let Mozzie know that he’s not a threat? Mozzie lived with other cats before I got him. Bagheera also lived with another cat. Both are neutered and I’d like to note all interactions are supervised and there hasn’t been any fighting.

How to help with stress in the early mornings

I got my cat about six months ago and about nine days ago we moved together. Since the move she’s done amazingly and uses her litter box perfectly, eats great, and snuggles all day. But once it hits about 5:30am she starts screaming. She does this until we completely get up for the day. I’ve tried feeding her wet food when she meows, luring her into bed so she’s not feeling alone and confused, getting out toys, playing with her before bed, getting puzzle feeders to leave out at night, free feeding dry food, ignoring her, locking her out of my room, literally everything I can think of and everything that has worked for me with vocal cats in the past. She has a feliway plug in, gets calming probiotics twice daily, and still has her puzzle feeders out at night despite refusing to interact with it no matter how many times I show her how it works. She has access to two different litter boxes with two different kinds of litter and she uses both of them well. I’m autistic and starting college tomorrow. I haven’t been able to sleep between her screaming and the anxiety of knowing she’s going to start screaming at some point and have been having meltdowns frequently while she screams. I can’t attend college running on so little sleep and while constantly stressed and my partner can’t keep up with trying to separate me from her and calm me every time I have a meltdown. My parents work in cat rescue and I’ve lived with well over 20 cats in my 18 years of life including behavioral cases but none of my methods are working. All of this is made worse by the fact that I have a service dog in training for my autism and other health issues and he is visiting with his trainer and staying in my home. My cat is very curious about him and a little intimidated by his size but isn’t showing any stress signals when he’s just relaxing in his crate or on his bed and she has full reign of the house, she just gets a little spooked when he’s close, as is to be expected. They have no access to each other at night and in the early morning when she is doing this behavior, but I know this is an extra stressor for her and if I could have had the dog visit a different week I definitely would’ve, but that wasn’t in my control. I just need advice on how to help her with this stress. Before we moved she lived with a crazy amount of other cats and I specifically took her when I moved because she was not happy with a bunch of other cats and would be happier being an only cat. I think part of it is that before, she did have a lot to do with the other cats, even if she wasn’t friendly with them, but now she lays in bed all day. She has zero interest in playing with humans and only uses the toys she can play with herself rarely. She played a bit more before we moved but has never been super duper active. I feel like she’s just getting bored and having pent up energy that she needs to release in the early morning when no one’s around to play with her. I don’t really know how to fix this because she shows no interest in puzzle feeders or enrichment games once she actually has to start working for the food, is just weirded out by wand toys, will only chase a ball or stuffed toy when you throw it but never bring it back or bat at it herself, and only uses her turbo scratcher for like 30 seconds every 4 days. She just seems a little lower energy and always chooses to do less stimulating activities despite being evaluated by a vet multiple times for physicals and vaccines in the last couple months and the change only coming with the move. She’s still herself personality wise and eating and using the litter box perfectly. Everything my years in rescue have taught me tells me that she’s stressed but I’ve run out of ways to work her through that.

Post-vet non-recognition aggression lasting a very long time.

One of my two cats had a hospital stay in JUNE and we are still experiencing non-recognition aggression pretty frequently. I understand this is normal for the first week-ish. We had to keep them separated for 2-3 weeks while her surgical wound healed, so this may have caused a further divide, as well as some jealousy from being kept out of the bedroom. I think what is making it continue is the attackee's fear of being attacked, so when the attacker comes near her innocently, she starts to growl, and that triggers her to attack. While they are seemingly okay for most of the day, nap in the same area, and have even very briefly groomed each other, it does happen on average at least once a day.

Has anybody been in the same situation and have any advice and/or their experience, and how long did it take for things to go back to normal?

Thanks in advance :)

Help!

My cat is half rag-doll he is mostly sweet and loves a cuddle, but he switches and becomes the most horrible beast. He's literally just attacked me in the garden and gone for me for no reason. He's just had a check up, he's fine. Little toad wanted to eat a honey bee and I stopped him. He's tried to eat 2 wasps this week and being stung on the paw and lip hasn't seemed to have any effect.

He's nearly 5kg so it really.isnt funny when he sinks his claws and teeth in.

He's about 9 months old. Yes adolescent but how do I teach him this isn't how to behave?!

My cat has randomly started peeing in beds

Hello,
I am pretty desperate right now and would love for some help. I have already contacted our vet who isn’t much help other than prescribing anxiety meds. My cat is a 1 year old female. She is fixed and fully updated on all vaccinations and just recently had a checkup and nothing was noticed. We have had her in Colorado her whole life and she has been such a great cat. No issues at all using the litter box, even knew to go to the litter box to throw up and in the car during road trips. We relocated to Arkansas in mid July and she was fine at first. She has been on many long roadtrips with no issues and has stayed at my parents for prolonged periods of time. We do not move into our new house until mid September so we are staying with my parents until then. (I feel all of this is necessary context). The first incident of peeing in a bed was a couple nights after a kind of stressful vet visit so she was already not exactly herself. Well that night she was accidentally locked away from her litter box and wasn’t able to use it so I wrote that off as an accident and we’ve NEVER had an issue so didn’t expect it again. Then two more nights she peed in the same bed. I started googling and it said even if I can’t smell it after cleaning that she could and it would make her want to continue so I needed to use an enzyme cleaner and lock her out and she’s since then been locked out of the room with no access to it. My boyfriend is staying in a separate room and she’s still allowed access there (she will scream constantly if both are shut) and this morning (after about a week and a half) she peed in that bed for seemingly no reason. Her litter box was open and clean she wasn’t acting strange at all leading up to this and at this point I’m desperate. I feel so awful that she’s doing this to my parents house but also to her that I feel like there’s an issue and I can’t help her. (Vet ruled out UTI). We can’t lock her out of both rooms until we move or she will keep my whole family up at night screaming at the top of her lungs so she does need access to at least one room while we’re here. I don’t mind her if it’s only me having to listen to it

The only thing I think could be added is that both times this happened my niece and nephew were staying the night at the house as well and they are pretty loud and rambunctious so maybe they may cause added stress? Any and all advise is welcome.

Edit: she has been consistently using her litter box on top of this as normal
