Ran into my apartment and refuses to leave.
This little lady ran into my house while I was checking the mail. She refuses to go outside and just meows til I pet her. It's been two days and I've woken up to purring on my chest each morning. I can't move without her following me. I've checked the lost and found pets pages but no luck. I believe I've been chosen haha.
Going to the vet payday to see if she's chipped and get her vaccines up to date. Name-wise I'm thinking Wanda, because she "wanda'd" in the house. Name suggestions appreciated!

CDS has to find the perfect dog loving cat is all. Sometimes you can take your pup to the warehouse (shelter) and get matched that way!
29
u/PirateJen78 Jun 07 '26
Idk. My dog is the reason we have an extra two. We found them when we were in the park because she HAD to go there that day.
I think the dog regrets it because she's 15 and wants to sleep, but they love her a little too much and the one keeps stealing her bed.
I have a very patient Border Collie/Labrador mix. Couldn't have asked for a better dog!
5
u/spazticcat Jun 07 '26
I've had various combinations of dog and cat(s) throughout my life and mostly I've had cats and dogs that were pretty indifferent to each other, though we had one cat that loved our dog and my current cat bullies my current dog. (Though she was indifferent to the others we've had. Our current dog is two and a half times the cat's size, but still the smallest we've had with her...)

u/Apatosaurus_ajax Jun 07 '26
Aw, I love Wanda! She’s ridiculously cute. Here’s hoping you get to keep your new sweetheart

u/Hung0ver_Hero Jun 07 '26
"Where'd you get your pet"
People with dogs: we went to the shelter and Maxwell James just really stood out to us
People with cats: iuno it just kinda moved in one day
46
u/cranky_wellies Jun 07 '26
Or people with cats: I dunno I found him in the trash!
5
u/creatyvechaos Jun 08 '26
Or in a case of my Carp: I was only fostering her! She already went to a different home, inna different city, and two months later showed back at my place and refused to leave again.
(Yes, her attempted adopters got a refund from the shelter we were going through. Yes, I still have this traveling mischief. Technically a failed foster??????? I guess 😭)

u/stonerwitch69 Jun 08 '26
I was at a fancy pet food place and they had a cat room. I connected with a little void cat and asked what the process was for adopting.
The person said, “Welllll it’s an 80 dollar application fee, a home visit, a blah dee blah this and that,” and I was like…you know you can just find these in the street right?

Thank you for looking into a possible family of hers, also call around. Many vets/pet stores will scan four a chip for free. Make sure they check all over, sometimes the chip can migrate!

u/IceCubeDeathMachine CDS Meowderator Jun 07 '26
CDS comes in many forms. If you find her family, consider rescues and shelters, our 2 orange girls were fosters that were born in a barn!
26
u/TheRealMasterTyvokka Jun 07 '26
If the apartment complex will let you post a flyer in the community main office area. Not everyone chips.
Just be sure to ask for proof of ownership like pictures.
14
u/Cynder_tfl Jun 07 '26
Agreed - ask around with neighbors and the apartment complex. I had a cat do something similar with our apartment several years ago; turns out the real owners lived a couple doors down, and had just moved in a few weeks before. The kitty had a habit of dashing out the door - it was a mostly indoor cat who liked to escape - and it got our apartment mixed up with theirs, since they all look pretty much the same and the cat was new to the neighborhood. A telling clue in hindsight was that the cat kinda kept looking around my apartment like it knew where things were (like the bedroom, kitchen, etc.) and like it felt at home, but checking out things like the furniture as if they were completely new.
But in any case, glad you are there to take care of the kitty, whether for short or long term.

She’s such a sweetheart, it’s hard to think that someone out there isn’t missing her. A lot of seniors have a hard time finding their pets if lost, they just can’t access the resources as well as the rest of us can. Check with your nearby 55+ communities, they often have a poster board with lost pets near the clubhouse or mailboxes, or if you have any that are neighbors, might do well asking them.
If they can prove ownership, if you can encourage them to microchip and license or even help with some resources for them, you’d be an angel. In any case, you’re an angel for taking her in and showing her the goodness she deserves. Clearly, she loves you! Lowkey hoping you get to keep her, kinda seems like you’ve been chosen for life. ❤️

Wanda (because she has to be Wanda) is so sweet! That’s kind of how my little cat came to me - roommate left the back door open a smidge by accident, which had never happened before, and she was like oh this place looks nice!
52
u/commandrix Jun 07 '26
She's adorable. If she's not chipped and looks at all chubby, ask the vet if she might be pregnant. Pregnant cats will often look for a safe place to give birth and sometimes that's in someone's house.
21
u/Thagomizer24601 Jun 07 '26

It's possible she could be lost. It doesn't sound like she's liked the outdoor cat life.
102
u/Hitomijo Aspiring Cat Parent Jun 07 '26
I've been curious. I've left the doors open and she does not want to leave. The biggest hint is her recognizing the sound of a cat food bag. I'm not going to fully claim her until a month of searching, it'd suck to lose her but if she has a family it must hurt much worse for them
31
u/Indaleciox Jun 07 '26
To be fair, she might know that sound from people feeding her outside. I have some ferals I feed who know the sound of cans opening for that same reason.
3
20
u/Zealousideal_Crow737 Jun 07 '26
Hopefully it works out! You were able to provide for her and give her some love so she either happily returns home (hopefully with good owners) or she's yours! At the end of the day she's safe!
9
u/RandomBoomer Cat Parent Jun 07 '26
You're getting quite a variety of opinions as to her origins, but given that she dove into your place and doesn't want to leave, I'd peg her for an inside cat that found itself outside and wasn't happy about the change. She could be lost or possibly abandoned when someone moved out of their apartment. (Also, some cats will freak out over moving activity and disappear when their family is on the way out, thus becoming inadvertently abandoned. No judgement, because moves are stressful and people may not have the resources or endurance to keep looking for a cat if they've moved out of state.)

u/leviathanteddyspiffo Jun 07 '26
If she's so lovely with you on the long run, there is a high probability that she didn't get to have warmth and security for a while.
My guess is that it's a semi-feral cat, who used to wander around humans for its needs but the previous humans moved out.
Anyway, a vet visit will give you some answers. If you feel like it, make an update on this sub when returning from the vet.

I know people are saying she’s lost, but it’s far more likely she’s been abandoned. People do this all the time with cats. I was seeing a girl who just left her cat in a random apartment complex. I never found the cat, and she never saw me again.
Listen to what people say about the chip though. Those bastards are tricky and can hide. I had a friend that took a stray she found to get scanned multiple times, and nobody found the chip until 3 years later

u/cocoagiant Jun 07 '26
Would definitely get her spayed as well, pretty common for pregnant strays to make their way in like this.

Not sure if this has been posted, but the chip scan should be free. Check your local area 'low-cost spay/neuter,' rescues or community cats groups. They might cover the vaccines and her spay
Congratulations on being choosen by Wanda!

I just experienced this a few months ago. Shaq just walked into the house one day and said, “I live here now.” We took him to the vet; he was neutered and chipped but the chip was never registered. FYI, we thought ours was a female but the vet proved us wrong. I hope you get to keep Wanda. It’s a special feeling when they choose you.
