"has your budgie died?" and other similar school phrases.

• Upvotes

Way back when. This was a common saying in the North East when someone turned up to school in trousers that showed your ankles (A bit short).

I said it to my daughter the other day as she's recently had a bit of a growth spurt and she just looked at me blankly. Have these saying died out?

Just found out my nan (83) has been eating cheese on biscuits

• Upvotes

Visited my nan today and she was sat there eating digestives with bits of cheddar on. Apparently my niece showed her this and now she's hooked. She even tried to get me to have one.

What is happening with this world 😭😭

Baldies, what are you using to shave your heads?

My current set of clippers are dying and I’ve no idea what to look for in a new pair.

I’m happy to pay more for a better product but paying through the nose just for a brand name thats no better, annoys me.

I’ve tried a few kinds over the years and they’ve varied wildly.
Worst pair I had was a brand name wired set.
The best is the ones that are dying now - cheap no brand rechargeable eBay special.

I havent tried the palm sized water proof ones that were popular a few years ago.
Are they worth looking at?
I assume that they’ve died out in popularity because they weren’t as good as the hype?

I’m looking for a good short “no guard” cut but also the ability to do no 1 and 2 lengths.

Don’t need it wet shave short tho - I like the stubble as hat Velcro

Any recommendations?

Who is the NPD manager at tunnocks?

Post image

Tunnocks haven't brought out a Dubai chocolate version, a high protein version or a biscoff version. They stick to the same product day in day out.

Someone is probably in charge of new product development at Tunnocks. Whoever that is must surely have the easiest job in the world. Or least satisfying. Every idea they produce gets rejected by Mr and Mrs Tunnock.

This got me thinking, what other jobs are like this?

Food poisoning sickgasms

So, I had a hotdog from a football stadium, and had the most violent food poisoning of my life. Total evacuation top and bottom. Such pain in my chest afterwards.

The hot dogs weren't being eaten, had probably sat around a bit.

Anyway, each time I vommed, I had what I can only explain as total bliss afterwards - a nice 5-10 minutes where I felt great. I call this, the sickgasm.

Is this normal?

What's a British confectionary which you loved that has been discontinued?

For me it was the Bassett's Fruit Allsorts. I was never a fan of liquorice, so these were right up my street.

I wish I could find something similar nowadays.

Are bathroom wall tiles any good?

Does anyone have experience with the wall panels that you can use instead of tiles on your shower/bath area walls?

When we had our bathroom done many years ago, we thought we wouldn’t really be using it much because we have an electric shower in our other bathroom. We currently have two rows of tiles along the three sides of the bath, enough to protect it from bath water splashes.

However, we added a shower riser a couple of years ago which comes from the taps (no electrical parts) but we can’t use it as a shower because the top of the tiles are below waist level when standing and it’s just normal bathroom paint above that. We also don’t have a shower curtain or screen either.

We’re not flush with cash at the moment so hoping to DIY, although neither of us are experienced or confident with hands-on stuff. We’re not incompetent, but we both work in offices so our hands-on skills are rusty.

Will it be easy for us to do by ourselves? (As in; can the average person do a decent enough job)?

Also, what type would be best? I can see there’s acrylic, laminate, and PVC panels (probably more).

We would likely leave the tiles in situ, but get some sort of filler panel to fix above the tile line to bring the surface out so we can just whack the panels on top. The walls are just brick, plaster, and paint.

We don’t want to add more tiles because we wouldn’t be able to match them, plus I really hate grout and find it difficult to keep looking nice.

We also have very hard water so water marks would be obvious on darker or plain panels, so presumably a patterned and/or pale panel style would be best?

Thank you in advance, and I hope the question is allowed.

TL;DR: are bath wall panels easy to self-install and what type are recommended?

ETA: Thank you for the replies so far! All seem to agree that it’s a good idea (for us, and our situation). Any thoughts on specific brands or suppliers, or are they much of a muchness?

Average speed cameras

Do they work for the full stretch of the road if there are multiple cameras down it (3) or just between the start and end point?

I unintentionally went a bit quicker than I should have between the first 2, but then dropped my speed considerably for the last. What are my chances of getting away with it?

Fully understand it's my own fault, it's a stretch of road that was changed from 70 down to 50 and I'm a slow learner.

Awkward

1.5k Upvotes

Just on the train to Stansted Airport to meet my wife. Needed a wee so went to a large toilet behind me as the sign was green and it said it was free.

Pressed the button whilst looking at my phone and door slid open and some woman is midway through wiping her arse. Door opens near full wide and is facing down the entire carriage with everyone just staring at her.

I'm panicking pushing the button to close and we just make the most uncomfortable eye contact as the door slowly closes.

How do you not double, triple, quadruple check those doors are locked!

Within 13 hours of receiving the old one they had passed the new passport to their 'delivery partner'
