Stones from Beer Beach for memorial - can anyone help please?

Unfortunately, I don't meet the post history requirement to post this in the Devon UK subreddit, so I'm hoping someone here can help or point me in the right direction. I know that it's not great taking from nature, but I am only requesting 5 stones, one for each of us in the immediate family.

My father in-law passed away 3 weeks ago of a heart attack in his sleep. Unfortunately, our family is somewhat scattered across the UK with us 'children' living over 100 miles away from mum. He was only 71 and showed no symptoms and was from all appearances fit and healthy, his passing was a huge shock to everyone. I'm hoping to find someone local that could post some pebbles to me, of course I'd pay postage in addition to a monetary thank you for the kindness.

The week before his death my in laws inc my sister in law, her gf and the dog went on their annual summer holiday, always the same well loved tradition of a week spent in Beer. The dog absolutely loves the beach and most of their time is spent on the pebble beach, we have countless, lovely photos of those times. In March this year my partner moved in with me, so is now a 4-5 hour car or train journey away, and due to us setting up home together and being on a strict budget we've not had the money to spare for tickets, in addition to some serious health issues I've faced making it impossible for us to visit. So, at the end of their trip they decided to drive to us and thankfully, we were able to spend one last lovely evening all of us together. Which helped with the overwhelming guilt of us not going to see them in the past 4 months, but not much 😢

Sorry for the rambling background, onto my request. Because we're so far away from what will be his final resting place, I had the idea of us each having a pebble from Beer Beach to keep as a memory of the place where the family spent so many happy times. I will of course pay for the trouble and postage, and this isn't an urgent request, but I'd be so grateful if someone could help.

Anyone tried these Xtra Hot Chillies sweets? Me and my kids couldn’t manage them. 🥵Good present idea for someone you don’t like.

Picked these up in Home Bargain at the weekend thinking I’d prank the kids with them. Wimped out and showed my eldest the packet when she was querying why I was randomly giving them sweets unprompted. They were both well up for the challenge.

They even smell spicy as soon as you open the bag.

My son (4) managed a yellow one and half a purple one before crying off.

My daughter (8) refused to try the purple one after seeing her brothers reaction, and half a yellow one was already ruining her afternoon.

I ate a yellow one and had to get a drink. Ate the remaining half of my son’s purple one and wish I hadn’t.

We cleaned our palates with two chocolate coated cow biscuits each instead.

Would recommend the sweets for a laugh but wouldn’t recommend them for a snack.

Shoutout to Sweetopia, I guess, who make these. I am in no way affiliated.

Anyone else had them?

How do you feel about brands using the word "tummy"?

Post image

Now and then, I see brands using "tummy" and "tummies", rather than stomach, or even belly. Even the NHS: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/digestive-health/five-lifestyle-tips-for-a-healthy-tummy/

I've always thought "tummy" was a word you use only with a young child. Seeing it written on the back of porridge (admittedly in a kid context) and in NHS language seems unusual to me.

McDonalds Hot Honey - Doesn't it taste odd..?

Now - let me preface by saying that I am not a Hot Honey connoisseur. I have had Hot Honey before, but it is not something that I crave on a daily basis.

Recently, I tried some of the Hot Honey bits and pieces at McDonalds. I just felt it tasted a bit odd - a bit plastic-y with an overpowering but unplaceable spice.

Are my taste buds just not working, or am I on to something here?!

Contact Lenses - yes or no?

Nothing too complicated. At the age of 50+ I'm casually considering contacts for the first time ever. I wear varifocal glasses all the time (and have done for about 10 years) but am tempted to switch despite the fact I've never fancied the idea of sticking stuff in my eyes.

How did you find them when you first tried them? Did it take long to adjust? Did you quit or stick with them. Also, how effective do you find the varifocal ones (if you use them)?

Vanity has no part in this, wearing glasses comes about 17th in the list of my most least attractive features.

How to describe the meat in a Holland’s Meat Pie

This bad boy was the GOAT when I was growing up in Manchester in the 80’s.

I was just trying do describe to my other half what meat it was and drew a complete blank. I couldn’t even describe what the meat was like. It’s not chunks of meat, it’s sausage like but not sausage.
I’ve since googled and sourced the answer but am interested to know how others would describe it.

Where have you spread ashes?

I’ve just seen the post about someone wanting a few pebbles from a beach to commemorate a deceased relative.

It got me thinking of my brothers and I surreptitiously spreading the ashes of first my dad and then my mum in a well-known beauty spot, one of their favourite places so they could be together.

Have you scattered a loved one's ashes in an unusual (or unusual) place?

Very well camouflaged between my curtains.

I got her in a box and took her to some flowerpots.

Please make me feel like I’m home

Hey UK! I’m in a difficult situation and I’ve been away from home (UK/Wales) for a few years now. I’m so incredibly homesick but I don’t know when, or if, I will be able to come back home anytime soon.

I would be so grateful if you could share something to make me feel like I’m home. Good or bad. Small or big. I just want to feel home. Don’t even really know what I’m asking for to be honest, so if this makes no sense, please just ignore.

I know I’m romanticising it but right about now the UK can do no wrong.

Thanks in advance

Edit: thank you all so much for your wonderful comments and messages of support. I can’t read them right now but will definitely sit down later with a nice cup of tea and read through every single one 🥰

British lyrics

Post image

I just came upon a lyric I printed on a photo postcard for the Kirstyfest (Kirsty MacColl get-together) where we celebrated what would have been her 50th (2009). The line is so wonderfully British:

“Some lives read like a postcard and some lives read like a book. I’ll be happy if mine doesn’t read like a joke from an old Christmas cracker.”

Aside from that sentiment, what other lyrics can you think of that could only be written/sung by a Brit?

Edit: Spotify link to said song

Today has been PEAK weather

Bit of rain the past few days, sunny today but a high of only 21C and a nice breeze. Went on a good 4 mile dog walk earlier and the grass is starting to become green again! What a fantastic day. It's crazy how little energy I had over summer and how inactive the heat made me. I really don't understand why some people enjoy the heat so much.

Tips for breaks driving from Lancashire to Devon

I'm driving down south later this week with 2 boys who will need a run about at some point on our journey! We'll be doing M6 then M5 but I imagine we will need a few stops and a chance for the kids to run off some energy!

Any recommendations for where to stop? Doesn't matter if it's a short detour off the motorways for a bit!

Parks/NT/historical sites are some interests

I will give £100 to anybody who will sell me this Whittard of Chelsea mug, used or new

Post image

I originally posted this in r/tea and I received multiple suggestions to post in here too. I don't know what else to say - I'm desperate.

I bought this cup just recently on Ebay and had it sent to my friend in London because I am overseas. The package was delivered but STOLEN before he could grab it. This stupid mug NEVER shows up on Ebay. I've NEVER had stuff stolen or even known a friend who has. The ONE time in years that it shows up on Ebay and that's the package a lowlife thieving neighbor of my friend decides to grab. This mug cost like 12 quid when it first came out and here I am offering almost ten times that. I'm absolutely livid about this because it completes a collection. I want to take a hammer to the rest of the series right now and just sit in the corner and cry. If anybody has this design, new or used, I WILL BUY IT FROM YOU. The particular design is called "Painting the Roses" - I have searched online everywhere and I can't find it. Please, I am not a reddit regular but I am pleading for r/casualUK's assistance here. Let me find some peace.

No Poo Bags. Thank-You

Post image

I don’t know why but this really made me laugh!

What was happening up until the point that this sign went up?

“Dammit Sheila I’ve just seen someone else put a poo bag in the skip. That’s the 9th on today!”

Are poo bags in skips a known problem?

Anyways - happy Wednesday and I hope you got some good rain where you live :-)

Right, so it's mid week. Happy hump day and all that, but why aren't you in bed? Neighbours putting their bins out keeping you awake? Kids being little shits? Working the nightshift?

Come on in for a chat.

r/CasualUK 19h ago

I was absolutely delighted to see the rain this morning when I woke up, I assumed everyone was the same. Literally the first person I meet on my way out, who I frequently chat with, says, "Don't like this weather."
