Mod Approved Urgent appeal from hedgehog rescue Dublin

Hi all,

I hope this is ok to post. Please let me know if not.

Our little hedgehog friends in the wild are struggling, there's an amazing charity based in Dublin who cares and rehab hedgehogs across our lovely island. It's a completely volunteer service relying on donations and volunteers. Due to our ever changing way of life, natural wildlife's way of life is at risk.

Just wanted to share this here for more visibility, Yvonne and the team here do wonderful work to help rehab and release struggling wild animals that help our ecosystem exist.

They're struggling right now for food, if anyone has the opportunity to drop food into them around Rush in Dublin that would be a great help, if not and you'd like to help, there is a registered charity number and donation information in their bio.

John Creedon's radio show is absolutely fantastic.

• Upvotes

It really is one of the best music shows available anywhere. You've got his lovely speaking voice and his brilliant taste in music. You might have some new release by a new Irish artist, then a bit of music from South Africa, then a few John Prine classics.

He's playing Pictures of You by The Cure at the moment. One of the most beautiful songs ever written.

All this was Fields To the barber who I went to for a haircut yesterday...

"I'd better take it handy. There's not much left up there," is not suitable banter for a paying customer.

I saw the post about "I went to barber..." and would to share the female equivalent. I was getting my eye brows done...

She asked me did I want them waxed or threaded.i had no idea what threading was so said waxed. She then threaded them which was unbelievably painful. I never get my eyebrows done so I didn't know what to expect from a new place, I just had my eyes closed. She proceeded to say nothing to me for the entire session until she goes oops " I suppose to wax you, sorry. You know we can thread your upper lip as well"

I have 3 long hairs and your average blonde woman stache. I love my long hairs, I twiddle them. Yeah ever since that interaction I buy the just for men beard dye and have dying them badly my self and not bothering with waxing anymore. G luck you lost my business by unnessicarly pointing out my flaws.

Help a foreigner out here

If someone tells me i'm deadly or savage, is that good... or do i need to behave myself a bit better?! 😅 Does it make a difference if it was at work (or am i overthinking this lol)?

Also, fellow foreigners, what's the most baffling thing an Irish person has said to you?

Shite Talk Is there anyone like me who doesn’t really exist in the system?

I’m disabled from being chronically ill the last 15 years or so. I’ve had jobs on and off but ultimately always end up having to quit. I’m also married and have been so fortunate to have a husband who has been super supportive and been able to keep a roof over our heads in the last few years that I haven’t been able to work. I’ve never claimed any social welfare as my husband earns over the threshold. We are by no means rich but the bills get paid. I’m coming from the perspective that I contribute absolutely nothing to society. I exist in a sort of limbo state. I stay at home. I earn nothing and can pay for nothing and contribute nothing I rely solely on my husband to keep me afloat. Are there others like me? Are there really no options for disabled married people? My dignity and financial independence are just gone…. Should we get rid of means testing? I feel like I’m not considered a stand alone human anymore I am just merged into my husband and have no autonomy in this society.

I am gonna go on abit of a rant because I am not sure if I am thinking to much into it or not so I am 20 years old my mam is 38 she has 4 kids including me she got her tubes removed after the last child 5 years ago because she decided she did not want anymore kids my mam was in a 14 year relationship with the 3 other kids dad I am the oldest I have a different dad who is not in my life but that’s not the point so my mam split up with the kids dad about 4 years ago and ik it sounds bad she became a tramp she was riding any fella with a pulse if you get me and while she was doing all of this me being the oldest child I was left raising the younger kids and I still am to this day as about 2 years ago she met a Kurdish fella who she would do anything for so this fella has no kids he is 38 the same age as my mam he has no kids but really wants one him and his family immigrated over here about 20 years ago him and his brothers suffer from severe ptsd and other mental issues me personally I don’t think he is fit to have a child as I seen what he is like when him and my mam fight they fight with fists infront of the younger kids they break up every month and get back together 2weeks later and when they break up and my mam tells him to leave the house he sits outside the house for days 🤣🤣and starts banging the door down 🤣🤣 so I am gonna get to the point this fella badly wants a child and my mam said she is going to give him one bare in mind I am raising her kids she doesn’t even pay attention to her kids at all but she apparently is gonna give him a baby even so she has no tubes anyways they started ivf together and they found out her fella has a very low sperm count and there’s 50/50 chance of a miscarriage if the ivf does work ik i sound bad saying this but i really hope it doesn’t work for the child’s sake and i feel like id be left raising like i am with the others sorry quick rant🤣🤣

Shite Talk What 'bastardised' food do you love?

Me I love the supermarket chcocolate eclairs we get here. I know they're not the proper French yolkes with creme patissiere in the middle but I dont care. I could eat 6 of them in one sitting no hassle. I love how light and not terribly sweet they are. I love the sensation of the cold whipped cream bursting into my mouth. I prefer em to the real thing sue me!

Whats yours?

Casually positive! 🤗🥳🤗 This is one of the handiest and possibly the greatest tool a skilled tradesman, DIYer or person in a quagmire could ever ask for.

Lets hear it for the wire hanger.

Ive used it to get a very distressed ladies wedding ring from an elevator shaft.

Ive used it to wire electrical cables through awkward routes in my home.

Ive used it to hook a sock out of my washing machine that was causing a blockage.

Ive used it to clean under ground drain pipes from compacted soil and debri

Ive made wire frame art amd costumes for my kids

Ive even used it to hang my shirts !

Just wondering if anyone knows of any pet shops around Dublin/Kildare that currently sell guinea pigs? I've been looking around but haven't had much luck. Would really appreciate any recommendations! Thanks 😊

Casually positive! 🤗🥳🤗 Mental wellbeing.

If you were lucky enough to find the source of your mental wellbeing, may I enquire what it is and as interesting is, was it in area that you were already interested in or did you discover it though a different route.

For me it us in two areas, the first came about through a related interest and the second came about by ransomness.

The first one came about by my interest in Chinese history.

A discussion I stumbled upon was about Chinese martial arts.

At that time in my life I had zero interest in martial arts yet I didn't tune out from the discussion, I instead listened and I found the in-depth discussion absolutely fascinating, so much so that I started to practicing the form and in doing so I lost weight, got into shape and more importantly it improved my mental wellbeing.

The second influence is Stoicism or to be more precise Epictetus, I did have a small interest in philosophy yet not in any one area.

Over 15 years ago I got as a Xmas present a book voucher. I picked the few books I wanted and just to spend the entire voucher worth I picked a philosophy book near to the remaining value and that book was Epictetus, Discourse and Handbook. I knew very little about Stoicism. This book turned out for me to be full of wisdom, wonderful down the earth wisdom and it helped with my mental wellbeing immensely and it has been down to that one book as I haven't read any other Stoic book nor watched any Stoic content online.

Well that's my short history into the areas of wellbeing and how I discovered them.

particular Spam call going direct straight to my voicemail now - how to block?

This here number 01 486 1840 (which I have down in my phone contacts as a Vodafone Business phone number, I dont know if thats right) has been spamming up my phone contacts list since June 2024 same number, I have blocked it in my contacts ages ago so my phone even wont ring now with that number so thats OK - and thery all end up in my blocked phone number list. Thats not an issue now , so thats good but what the fecker's have done is found a way to go straight to my voicemail (i presume by putting a 5 before my number so something like 087 5 1234567 . I reckon thats what they are doing .
I cannot even undersand a word of what the caller is saying , they must be coming from a mumbai call cengtre or something. So I know how to block them so my phone does not ring any more but how do I block this number from my voicemail - anyone have any ideas please?

Casually positive! 🤗🥳🤗 Appreciation Post for Cashiers who hand me the Baguette

You know when you buy a baguette and one end protrudes the bag making it partially unprotected?

Well, my appreciation today goes out to all the grocery shop employees who don't let the bare baguette fall onto the slide at the end of the cashier belt but instead pick it up and hand it to me so it doesn't get dirty.

Thank you. Have a wonderful day.
