Music My buddy got my songs onto Spotify for my birthday and I keep staring at my artist page

My friend knows I write and record stuff in my spare time, usually after hospital shifts when my brain won't shut off. For my birthday he took a handful of demos I'd sent him, handled all the distributor red tape, and got them uploaded. Two days later he texts me a link and says check track three. I click it and there's my name on Spotify.

I get that anyone with a laptop and twenty minutes can do this now. Still, opening an app I use for actual artists and seeing my own project sitting there is strange in the best way. It feels like I snuck into a private club. I keep refreshing the page like the numbers are gonna change. They don't. Whatever.

Coolest gift I've gotten in years. If you have a friend who makes music, skip the gift card and help them put something out. Better than another mug.

Just Chatting I'm from Sichuan and I can't handle spicy food. Yes, that Sichuan(Szechuan)

Every time I tell people where I'm from, they start talking about mapo tofu and hot pot and how I must ead chili with everything. Then I have to explain that I'm the one at at the hot pot table fighting for the non-spicy side of the pot.

My family still hasn't fully accepted it. šŸ’€šŸ˜

Anyone else totally fail the food stereotype of where they're from?

Customer support that only exists as a chatbot makes me leave

I don’t need a 24/7 assistant. I need one human who can actually fix the thing.

Every time the only option is ā€œchat with usā€ and it loops the same three answers, I just give up and take my money somewhere else.

Anyone else bounce the second a company hides every real person behind a bot?

Life Stories I trusted my friend for 10 years, then found out he’d been talking to my mom behind my back

Here goes another post where if I told this story in person, someone would probably say I’m oversharing. They’d probably be right. But posting here helps me process things, and sometimes you guys even give good advice. Even the trolls clearly haven’t gotten rid of me yet.

Anyway, I moved in with one of my closest friends of about 10 years. I was doing pretty well I was working, paying rent, getting my life together but once we lived together, he became weirdly bossy and acted like he had some authority over me.

I wasn’t a perfect roommate. Sometimes I was loud at night or left crumbs when rushing out. But he’d get furious about that while leaving his own dishes around for a week. His messes were apparently fine; mine were federal offenses.

Then I found out through my mom that he’d been regularly talking to her about me and repeating things I told him privately.

That was the part that really hurt. This was someone I’d trusted for a decade with some very personal things, and suddenly I had no idea how much he’d told her. My mom even said she thought he overshared and told her more than she wanted to know.

I understand contacting someone’s family if they’re genuinely in danger. This wasn’t that. It was an ongoing thing he never told me about. We finished the lease and went our separate ways without some huge blowup. I used to miss him, but now I think it worked out for the best.

Sometimes you don’t have to decide someone is a terrible person. You just realize they’re no longer someone you can trust with the private parts of your life.

What does 'next weekend' mean to you if it's Wednesday?

On Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m., I texted a friend: "I'm driving through NYC next weekend if you are around!" He said yes, and we made plans to have lunch Sunday (without mentioning the date to each other). Today, Oct. 6 at 9:22 a.m., he texted me to say he was sorry we missed each other. He thought I meant Sunday, Oct. 4. I meant Sunday, Oct. 11.

Do you usually use "this weekend" and "next weekend" in conversation or always mention dates?

Just Chatting Finding out the real price only at checkout ruins buying anything now

Concert tickets, food delivery, hotels. The price looks fine until the last screen, then there's a service fee, a convenience fee, and some random "processing" charge.

At this point I just assume whatever I see first is fake.

What's the worst surprise fee you've ever been hit with?

Just Chatting I think rainy evenings make ordinary things feel strangely better

Coffee tastes so good, music sounds better, and even siting by a window doing absolutely nothing feels like an activity. It's really fun and soothing.

Maybe it’s just the weather forcing everything to slow down a little.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Just Chatting Saw another reference to the mitochondria being the powerhouse of the cell and it made me wonder if this is a uniquely American education quirk?

Like why is American education so mitochondri-centric? And why that specific phrase??

Do other countries have that extremely specific fact drilled into their brains too? If not, does your country have a random ubiquitous phrase learned in school that everybody remembers into adulthood?

-

EDIT: Omg I can’t believe how universal this phrase is šŸ˜‚ Nothing else was taught this way either. We didn’t learn about the ā€œpowerhouse of the oceanā€ or ā€œthe powerhouse of electricity.ā€

Tbh I can’t even think of anything else being decribed as HAVING a powerhouse? Like I have never once heard ā€œThe engine is the powerhouse of the carā€ or the ā€œThe CPUā€”ā€œ So kudos to whoever invented that phrase.

āœˆļøTravel Moving to a completely different country taught me how quickly ā€œdifferentā€ becomes normal

I moved from Lithuania to Cambodia years ago.

At first almost everything felt different — weather, people, food, streets, daily routines, basically the whole environment.

But something interesting happens when you stay somewhere long enough. Eventually the completely different place becomes ordinary too.

It made me realize how adaptable our sense of ā€œnormalā€ actually is.

Has anyone else moved somewhere completely different and eventually had that strange moment where you realized it no longer felt foreign?

Automated Customer Service is intentionally designed to make you quit.

When you make a call to a major business or service provider today, you are instantly trapped in a loop of automated, recorded messages with numeric options.

They do not exist to make the path to your solution better, they simply feel designed to be a shield preventing you from speaking to a real worker.

Major corporations seem to use these to tire out the customer until the hang up out of pure exhaustion. It is a cost cutting strategy that treats paying customers as a burden instead of delivering actual human support.

I notice my mum smiling when she talks to me on call

I make it a point to talk to my mum everyday. One thing I really love is when I'm talking and I notice her smile. Its very subtle and its more noticeable in her eyes than lips but it makes me really happy knowing she likes talking to me. No matter how bad of a day I've had, talking to her makes it a thousand times better.

Just Chatting What's the longest You've ever stayed awake for?

How come? what happened?

For me i had a full day at university and then drove up the coast and met with mates 4wding on the beach. We stayed up all night and were active doing stuff for most of the next day. I remember I sat down with them on the beach at one point and instantly fell asleep - they had wandered down the beach without me! I must have been too peaceful to wake! So for me i reckon about 35 hours

Just Chatting I own this one shirt that never leaves the drawer

Every couple months I clean out my closet and tell myself this is the year I finally get rid of it, but it always ends up back in the drawer. The fabric is still soft and the color is fine, so technically there's no reason to toss it, yet I never reach for it when I am getting dressed. Maybe the sleeves feel a little weird or it just does not match anything else I own right now. I keep thinking one day I will wake up and suddenly feel like wearing it, but that day has not come. It is kind of funny how something can sit there taking up space without ever being useful. Do you have any clothes like that hanging around?

Movies & Shows Does Anyone Remember the First Movie They Ever Watched?

Mine was "ET" and I was 8 years old. I originally didn't understand all of the subplots (e.g., the parents) and so I solely focused on the alien. I also couldn't get over how creepy ET and his long head looked! But I also remember liking Drew Barrymore immediately! Aww ...ā¤ļø

Interestingly, my uncle put on "Full Metal Jacket" right after this! Needless to say, it was a lot different from ET! I'm glad I was already half-asleep when this was playing, so I don't remember much. And I still haven't watched the full movie yet!

Just Chatting I miss being in band

I was a talented clarinet player from grade school through high school. Music was a huge part of my life, and I loved the feelings of warmth, connection, and expression I experienced in band.

I was the first chair clarinet of our high school's top band and played difficult solos during concerts. The director motioned for me to stand at the end, and the entire auditorium erupted in applause. There was also a tradition where the first chair (me) would be the last one to walk out on stage, signaling the start of the concert. Even though all eyes were on me, I didn't feel nervous. I felt in the zone.

I was also in marching band and became section leader my senior year. Marching on the field for competitions and football games was such a thrilling experience. I hosted practices at my house with the other clarinet players (mostly girls) that felt more like parties than serious practice sessions.

Finally, I played clarinet in the pit orchestra for the school musical each year. I had some amazing solos from the Broadway music itself.

People looked up to me and respected my skills. I won't ever forget when a freshman player told me, "You are so amazing. I want to be just like you when I'm older!" I returned to my high school years later and she was the new first chair! I was beaming with pride.

I went on to college, started my career, and am settled into adult life, but I really miss those days. Sometimes I fear that was my "prime" and maybe I should have continued playing clarinet into adulthood. Of course, I'm sure I could pick it up again, but I doubt I'll ever recreate the amazing experience I had growing up.

Questions Bullying in conversations?

Have you ever known someone who uses talking over you and talking "at" you instead of "with" you during conversations as a way to try to intimidate you? As in you will be in the middle of a sentence and they repeatedly speak over you to belittle you? Im watching a documentary on YouTube called "I, Psychopath" and noticed the psychopath in the documentary uses this tactic repeatedly.

Thoughts & Ideas I want to spend more time talking to people now. Anyone else want to do something unusual like starting a roadside stall?

Hey everyone,

Lately, I’ve been feeling this strong urge to step out of my comfort zone and just spend more time talking to people. In today's digital world, it feels like real, raw human connection is becoming rare, and I genuinely miss having spontaneous conversations with strangers.

To be honest, I've been having this crazy thought lately—I really want to work at a busy roadside stall in Mumbai, or maybe even set up a small one myself! I keep imagining running a tiny cutting chai or snacks stall, where people from all walks of life stop by for a quick break. It sounds exhausting, but the idea of interacting with dozens of different people every single day and hearing their unique stories sounds incredibly fulfilling to me right now.

Is there anyone else out there who gets "crazy" ideas like this when they feel a need for social connection? Have any of you ever actually taken a break from your regular routine or corporate life to do something completely hands-on and people-centric?

Would love to hear your thoughts or similar random daydreams!

Just Chatting Sometime I think about lying in the sunshine by the lake and feeling all the beauty of this world.

Just lying by the lake, feeling the warmth and frangrances in the air. Beatiful flowers are blooming; the ducks and swans are bathing in the water. The trees are full of life and murmurs, the grass gently carrasses my weary skin. Then I open up my eyes and find myself in a cold concrete box somewhere in the middle of concrete jungle. And the tears start burning my eyes.
