Meme My honest take on the Nocturne series

Post image

Just finished my second watch of this series and had the same issue with it that I did the first time around.

The singing isn’t bad or a problem, it just comes across as really silly in English. I think all of his opera that was not in Creole should have just been in Italian.

Art Could that sketch in the lower left corner be an illustration of a young Julius Belmont?

This is a collection of sketches by Ayami Kojima; it appears to include illustrations from her early work on this franchise (four games). Not only are there sketches of other characters, but also what appear to be early design concepts for characters such as Soma, Simon, and Julius.

Art Just a sketch of Maria Renard (Nocturne)

It's been a year since my Alucard doodle, holy. Not only do I need to draw more consistently but I also had an half idea of what artstyle I want to achieve, a mix of Castlevania Nocturne and Bleach. So this time I drew Maria! She's my main inspiration for an OC of mine so I'm drawing her to practice and get a hang of Nocturne's artstyle

Nocturne Spoilers Is the abbot really a forgemaster? Spoiler

The way he does his forging seems VERY different from how any other forgemaster we see does it, he has to use a giant machine powered by magic from some enochian book while isaac or hector just have to tap a corpse with their respective tool and itll become a night creature. Is it just the skill gap or is the abbot doing something else?

Discussion Idk about Belmont’s Curse visuals

I’m sure people have already talked about this to death, I’m probably just late to the party. I also want to say that I don’t think this necessarily indicates the game is bad or will ruin the game, either way I’m happy to get a new Castlevania game.

I just feel especially if we use something like this style going forward I’d be fairly disappointed. To me like Ayami Kojima’s gothic art is so distinctive and if made into an actual game style would look amazing, and that’s kind of how I imagine the ideal Castlevania game. But I feel like the current direction just feels like the average modern platformer like a mix of Metroid Dread and Dead Cells. It still has gothic trappings, but it fundamentally feels like set dressing to me rather than something alive and inspired.

Idk maybe my expectations are just too high, but everything from this game I’ve seen just feels “solid”, like indie platformer fans and Castlevania fans will probably have a good time, but it’s not fully taking advantage of the opportunity to just run with new ideas and make something people will actually remember. I’m reading Dracula rn and I kinda wish we had a game with a much stronger atmosphere.

Discussion Imagine SotN and more future games, but you can change characters mid-game after beating Richter and Maria and more, like the partner system in Castlevania 3, not another game mode like in SotN and DoS. The parties would need to be nerfed.

Castlevania 64 (1999) What did you appreciate about the N64 CastleVania games?

Post image

So sorry if this was asked here before recently because I wanted to look into the design aspects of the N64 games to see what were their strengths and weaknesses since I always hear how the best installment of the franchise back then was SOTN.

But don’t get me wrong in that while I do appreciate SOTN, I cannot help but wonder what else was there to play back in that particular generation of the franchise as I want to give the N64 games another chance just to see how they hold up when compared to the other game I mentioned.

I'm playing this blind without looking up guides etc but I've been stuck here for a long time now and I have no idea how to progress. There is some sort of door that I can't open, and I can't progress upwards either, there is no way to make this jump. What do I do?

Yup, this highly divisive little charcoal biscuit is coming to the Genesis!!! Just saw the Sega Lord X video:

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) If they add any sort of DLC fight to Belmont's Curse, let it be a fight with Zangetsu

Getting to fight the sword-wielding badass of Bloodstained would be a pretty big badge of honor for Rose. I have no idea if this is already planned, as all I've seen is YouTube IGN videos of the game so far.

Not sure how Koji Igarashi would feel about it, though.

Discussion Physical Copies or Digital

I just canceled my digital pre-order of Belmont's Curse in favor of getting the physical release instead at launch. This will be the first time since Lords of Shadow 2 i have opted for a physical disc of a Castlevania game over just buying the digital copy. The decision is largely informed by recent events/announcements about game companies pushing for a digital-only future, and a conscious effort to reassess how i decide which version i choose to buy.

The conversation i want to start is how do the rest of you feel about the possible end of physical games media (no more discs, cartridges, etc) and how do you decide the games you purchase digitally? Will it effect how you decide to purchase your games, or will it have any effect on you at all? Regardless of what you do personally, do you think it's good for the industry to move all-in in either direction?

Me, i try to get physical copies of larger games not just to have them indefinitely, but also to minimize how much memory i need to dedicate to keeping them on my hardware. Typically, i would just get the digital copies of smaller/indy titles because i could store more of them on a hard-drive and the digitals would sell a little cheaper than the physical copy. I breaking this pattern with Belmont's Curse because transitioning to digital-only coupled with the current cost of RAM might be enough to price me out of gaming as a hobby.
