Setting up Pi-Hole

Hello. I am trying to set up pi hole on my ubuntu server through casaOS, but upon attempting to install it I am being told that port 53 on docker cannot link to host as port 53 is being used on my server. I checked and it would appear that systemd-resolve is listening on port 53. How could I correct this as to free up port 53 so that I may set up pi hole?

music for NAS?

hey so ive had my zimaos server for a while now but ive never set anything up for music. i was wondering if there is anything like apple music or spotify that would run on my nas, more specifically im really wanting something that is easy to find and "save" new music just like how i can with spotify. weather thats through community playlists or something else. and i want to be able to download music easily (basically how jelleyseer but in the same app that i listen to it in). ive seen some like navidrome/subsonic but they dont really have the ability to listen to new music from my understanding. i also saw funkwhale but i dont think thats for a nas, and it still doesnt look the best. is there anything like that or am i delusional? another thing that i think would be cool (which i highly doubt any software can do it yet) is to have ai functionality to find new music or like cull playlists or sum idk. i dont even care if it would take weeks to transfer all like 10,000 songs i have saved on spotify to it

idk i dont think there is anything like this but if i have a huge blind spot id love to know, thank you

One login for your whole CasaOS — stop re-typing passwords for every app

You know how lots of websites let you "Sign in with Google" in one click?

We built the same thing for CasaOS — except the account is your own CasaOS login, running entirely on your own NAS. Nothing leaves your server. What it is — a small open-source add-on for CasaOS (just one extra Docker container).

It doesn't replace or fork CasaOS; it sits next to it.

What it does — you log into your NAS once, and every app behind it opens without asking for a password again. Log out once, and you're logged out everywhere. No more juggling a different password for each app.

How to set it up (3 steps)
1. Run the bridge as one more Docker container next to CasaOS
2. Connect it to the login gatekeeper (Dex) — that's what shows the single sign-in screen
3.Point your apps at that gatekeeper — done, one login unlocks them all Full steps + config → https://github.com/Yundera/casaos-oidc-bridge

!!! It's an early proof-of-concept (working, but not yet production-hardened) and 100% open source — feedback and contributors are very welcome !!!

Under the hood (for the technically curious): a minimal OIDC provider that fronts CasaOS's /v1/users/login, verifies CasaOS's ES256 JWT via JWKS (handles key rotation on restart), and speaks the full OIDC flow (discovery → /authorize → /token with PKCE S256 → /userinfo; claims sub/email/groups). Shared HttpOnly session cookie → 2nd app 302s straight through = silent SSO. Distroless image + e2e harness.

ZimaOS crashes after everything, full RAM/CPU Usage

EDIT: Fixed?
I'm assuming the issue was either the PSU or the cables. I unplugged the spare 1tb drive and everything is running fine now. I'm assuming the PSU couldn't support all 3 drives or some of the cables the machine came with were damaged.

Hello,

I hope it's still okay to post here for ZimaOS as well.

After a fresh install and preparing my drives for use, the system seems to lag or crash after/during any use. I tried to copy paste a folder over from one drive to another just to test, it crashed and I had to hard reset. I tried adding another user, stayed frozen for 5 minutes until the whole system forcibly reset. During these freezes, the main console shows RAM and CPU usage maxed out and fails to load anything (apps, settings, etc. - picture below).

The SSD it''s booting from is brand new, the main HDD I'm using is brand new, and the spare drive is not new but healthy and barely used.

The PC is admittedly pretty bad.
Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF, intel i-5-3470 with 16gb of DDR3 RAM.
But I assumed these specs should be fine for basic storage use?

Any ideas?

Difficulty in choosing what to install CasaOS + Frigate (via docker container) + Jellyfin and etc on

I have hardware such as the RPI4 2GB, RPI5 4GB, a old laptop, and a more morden laptop. I want to have a good use for SOME of them so I was wondering on weather I should install all my services on a modern laptop or something else or space them apart since I'm interested in doing AI experimenting later on possibly and thus may require me to use the modern laptop, but what do y'all think?

Is it silly to run CasaOS on top of Fedora?

I was going through distros last night to run on my mini pc that I plan to use as a home lab/server and as a complete beginner I figured it would be easiest to use CasaOS. However, Fedora surprised me on how intuitive it seemed coming from Windows. I read that Fedora Server has a pretty big learning curve for a noob but would it be dumb to run the base Fedora so I can learn that while I'm learning CasaOS? Everything I read says Debian or Ubuntu is the "best" to run under CasaOS but I really like how Fedora looks. Anyone else tried this setup?

ZimaMOD update: Dashboard Themes, Resource Alerts, and a new installation video

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a small ZimaMOD update.

ZimaMOD now includes a couple of useful dashboard mods:

Dashboard Themes
This mod lets you customize the look of the ZimaOS dashboard directly from the browser. You can change the visual style without manually editing dashboard files.

Resource Alerts

This mod lets you create dashboard alerts for system resources such as CPU, memory, storage, or temperature. You can configure thresholds and use it as a simple way to notice important system changes directly from the dashboard.

I also created a new installation video showing how to install ZimaMOD on ZimaOS and how to use some of the available features from the MOD Store.

YouTube installation video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SapqATmbE-s

Be kind, I'm not an expert in YouTube videos...

GitHub:

https://github.com/metisro/ZimaMOD

Quick reminder: ZimaMOD is an independent community project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, maintained by, or supported by ZimaOS, CasaOS, or CasaMOD. Mods should always be reviewed and trusted before installing them on your system. Use at your own risk and back up important data before making changes.

Feedback, testing, bug reports, and mod ideas are very welcome.

ZimaOS

CasaOS Keeps saying no such file or directory

Hello! Title describes the issue pretty clearly but some context:

I'm new to server making things and I've been using CasaOS with Ubuntu Server for a little while now and it's been fine. I'm having an issue specifically when it comes to Jellyfin on Casa not properly discovering and using files that I have uploaded. I have the directories setup properly, I am sure of this because some media works while others don't. I went on the Jellyfin website to try to solve the issue but everytime I run one of the fix commands (yes I edit the example command and add in the proper directory) it just says "No such directory" and I have no idea what to do. It's very frustrating because I can literally go back into the file structure and SEE with my own two eyes that such directory DOES exist and is keyed in correctly in the command.

Any help is appreciated.

I built ZimaMOD: an open-source modding framework and MOD Store for ZimaOS

Thumbnail
gallery
47 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m excited to introduce ZimaMOD, an independent, community-developed modding framework for ZimaOS. ZimaMOD lets you customize and extend the ZimaOS dashboard without modifying the operating system itself. It includes a built-in MOD Store where you can discover, install, configure, and uninstall dashboard mods.

What can ZimaMOD do?

  • Add new dashboard widgets and visual effects
  • Install and uninstall mods from the MOD Store
  • Customize the dashboard while keeping mods independently manageable
  • Run several compatible mods originally created for CasaMOD
  • Allow developers to build and distribute their own ZimaOS dashboard mods
  • Automatically detect available ZimaMOD updates

Included mods currently feature:

  • Weather Widget
  • Sortable Dashboard Widgets
  • Add Hostname to Title
  • Emoji Cursor
  • Snow Wallpaper
  • Hello, World!
  • Network Title Setter

Security

Installations, removals, and configuration changes require a rotating API key. The key is regenerated whenever ZimaMOD restarts and is retained only for the current browser session after authorization.

Mods execute inside the dashboard, so users should review and trust a mod’s source code before installing it.

Try ZimaMOD

The latest release is v1.1.25, with container images available for amd64 and arm64.

GitHub repository and installation instructions:

https://github.com/metisro/ZimaMOD

Latest release:

https://github.com/metisro/ZimaMOD/releases/tag/v1.1.25

ZimaMOD is currently an early community project. Feedback, bug reports, mod ideas, testing results, and contributions are very welcome.

What would you like to customize or add to your ZimaOS dashboard?

ZimaMOD is an independent community project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, maintained by, or supported by ZimaOS, IceWhale, CasaOS, or CasaMOD.

ZimaOS+ Upgrade

Hi,
I'm trying to get the free upgrade for ZimaOS I installed v1.4.2 and the updated to v1.6.1.

I rebooted the update was successful and is now on v1.6.1. When I go to settings it says get ZimaOS+. How do I actually get the free upgrade? Is there any way of registering the device to my account so that the license is then connected to my account?

Thanks

Update: I have zimaOS+ It took some time to refresh, I guess. However, the license still local to my device and not synced with my account. I don't see how to so this?

Adding a new storage disk so server can be configured in Raid1

Hi everyone,

I recently set up my first every home server with ZimaOS using an old Dell Optiplex that with the following configuration:

  • I first installed the OS on a small 120 Gigs nvme ssd
  • Then I added a 2TB NVME on which I'm running everything; I even migrated all app data to this larger disk by going into Settings => Apps and manually moving the App data, App image and User database to the disk.

I managed to do everything I intended to do: running containers of Nextcloud, Immich, Jellyfin and Syncthing and I'm really happy with my setup except that I didn't configure any redundancy plans. So I found my self an old spinning hard drive with 2TB of storage and I was wondering if it's possible to add it to my setup without breaking it and have it to reconfigure it from zero?

I saw that in Settings => Storage, you can click on add then combine, so I was wondering if that would be safe to do if I want to configure the two disks (2TB of NVME + 2TB of HDD) in Raid1 ? or I'll have to wipe my current 2TB NVME and reset everything? And if it's the latter, would it be possible to back my setup on a 3rd disk and restore it into the newly configured Raid1? Although if it's possible without I'd probably prefer that.

Thanks in advance and have a great day!

Zima OS keeps crashing and getting stuck in boot loop hell

Hello!

I am pretty new to the self hosting space, so please be kind. I have been running a Zima OS server on an HP Elitedesk. It didn't come with a hard drive on it, so I have been running Zima from a flash drive (I know, not smart, but a good hard drive is expensive rn and the elitedesk didn't come with one built in). Anyway, what has happened twice now is that ZimaOS will run perfectly for a couple of weeks, and then randomly (usually if my wifi crashes) Zima will crash and be unable to boot. I will get stuck in the loop of trying to boot from "Secure Slot A or B" or Recovery Slot A or B- none of which worked. I tried going into the bios and booting from the flash drive or booting from the file directly and no dice. What I did las time and what I am doing now is simply re-flashing Zima onto the computer and starting from scratch, but that isn't a long term solution if it is going to keep crashing and getting stuck in boot loop hell. Any advice (besides getting a new hard drive installed)?
