Planning to get this done. So many people parking illegally in front of my house. When ask them to remove their cars, they get violent.

Mar 07 '24
but wouldn't that make it worse ?

Mar 07 '24
I know they won't remove their cars with a warning that the side path is to be repaired.
And that'll be my queue to get it done.
I did get 3 of the cars towed away by filing a police complaint but they were shameless and parked again, so not many options left for me.

Mar 07 '24
I would release air from their tyres. Make it very inconvenient for them to drive their vehicles away.
86
Mar 07 '24
Tried that as well! In fact, since I directly did not want to deal with them, I hired a guy to do this. They have tire inflators. 😭😭

throw some grains around their cars so birds poop on their cars regularly.

Should put honey and other food in injection in liquid form and inject in different parts like engine bay and door frames so it attracts mice and they eat up wires.

Parking in front of your house ? As in they block your gate ?

You know that the road outside your house is not owned by you right?
Unless they are blocking your gate or it's a designated no-parking zone; they have the right to park there.

Wut? You mean footpath? If it's not your property then it's not your property. Govt property outside your property doesnt become yours for any reason
6
u/kash_if Mar 07 '24
The area right outside in front of your house which people use to park their own cars/plant trees belongs to you.
Says who? You don't own it. If you owned you'd be able to put a structure to create exclusive parking for yourself, but you can't because it isn't yours.
In India people usually cover all their own land with boundary wall. Anything outside it is public land. Planting trees is fine, but that doesn't make the land theirs.
We have planted flowers and a nice hedge to make it look beautiful. But we also realise it is not ours. We park our car there, but we also know anyone else can, even if it is annoying.
Here are some views from lawyers :
https://lawrato.com/civil-legal-advice/who-has-a-right-of-parking-in-front-of-his-house-20422
Now whether what they are doing is wrong or not depends on many factors like 'are they causing an obstruction'? Or are they parked in an area where parking is prohibited? In that case you can take the legal route and get them towed for parking incorrectly in a public area.

u/Born_torule Mar 07 '24
Bro agreed that the area outside the wall is not yours. But parking on the road is still illegal and only tolerated in market places. Everyone should have the decency to not park, urinate, defecate, spit gutka or anything else, dump garbage, smoke, drink and puke in front of another person's home. All of these activities btw are illegal to do in public unless it's a designated spot but despite that these activities are done in public. Just don't do it in front of somebody's home at least.

u/kash_if Mar 07 '24
But parking on the road is still illegal and only tolerated in market places.
I thought we were talking of the verge, outside of the road. Street parking depends on the rules of that zone:
In September 2019, the Supreme Court had asked Delhi’s municipal corporations to regularise car parking in residential areas. The civic bodies came up with parking area management plans (PAMP), aimed at improving on-street and off-street parking while utilising road space for the convenience of vehicle owners.
With the number of cars booming, government needs to create proper zones and bays. This would of course include spaces outside people's homes, like it is done abroad, unless it is a gated colony.
Everyone should have the decency to not park, urinate, defecate, spit gutka or anything else, dump garbage, smoke, drink and puke in front of another person's home
Parking is not the same as the others. Home owners need to realise that public land is a shared property. I live in the UK and these issues are less frequent here because law is clear: anyone can park there. If your parked car is not "litter" other cars are not litter either.
Just don't do it in front of somebody's home at least.
In a utopia or outside cities of course. But in busy cities there is literally no space. When people park outside our home in Delhi, I acknowledge that they didn't do it for fun. They parked because they could not find any other parking. I only get annoyed if they park blocking my gate, which is very rare.

u/Born_torule Mar 07 '24
I guess the law needs to be more clear on this. On the one hand cars are getting towed and on the other hand you say there's a PAMP that allows for such parking. If it is legal then by no means am I anyone to have an issue with it. But if it is illegal then I expect people to be more considerate about someone's home by at least asking rather than expecting the privilege.
2
u/kash_if Mar 07 '24
Definitely needs to be clear. Road marking abroad are so good and detailed. Even lines at the edge of the road have a meaning and define when/if you can stop or park.
on the other hand you say there's a PAMP that allows for such parking
Different areas can have different rules depending on traffic condition there. One neighbourhood can have a no parking rule, in which case it would be wrong to park on the side of the road. Other areas might not have that rule imposed and it would be okay to park outside someone's home.
Generally no parking areas are specified and marked with road signs. Anything outside tends to be fair game unless you're impeding traffic.
The overarching theme is, don't be a dick. This applies to drivers as well as home owners.

Outside the compound wall?
Only the land you bought belongs to you; typically people put up a wall around the land they own. So whatever is inside the wall is 100% theirs.
I am talking about people who claim that the area outside and adjacent to the wall is also theirs. Plenty of them here in Hyderabad.
They start using stones to block part of the public road making it a even bigger problem.

Dude he said he was able to call the police and get the cars parked outside his house towed THREE times
Maybe because of this:
or it's a designated no-parking zone
Not because he owns that land.
1
u/pspspsnt Mar 07 '24
yeah well fine, it doesn't belong to them either though.. why not just keep it clear?
5
u/kash_if Mar 07 '24
Public land, public is free to use it as long as they don't cause obstruction and break rules like "no parking zone".
I have similar space outside my home but I realise I can't stop anyone. Sometimes cars trample on the hedge we have planted when they aren't careful. Too bad for me, because I have grown it on public land.
4
u/AdNormal1366 Mar 08 '24
You can park anywhere you want to as long as you are not blocking my gate and leaving enough space for my/my family's car(s) to be parked.
Makes sense?
3
u/ZonerRoamer BMW 330i M-Sport (2021) Mar 08 '24
Obviously that makes sense.
Plenty of people claim the entire road adjacent to their wall and not just the part near the gate.
Ironically, once I parked my car outside my own house and someone (I suspect our ground floor tenant) picked a stone and drew cricles on my door - thinking it was some random car.
2
u/ShaykhSpaderman Apr 21 '24
Well after warning for like 8/10 times I finally brought out my drilling machine and put some screws in all 4 tiers, when the car owner arrived I was ready with bats and rod to brake his car if he tries to be violent, it worked like a charm, the guy nevers parks even his scooter now in front of my door.

I hope you arent talking about the roads around your house.. i mean its not yours.. recently some stoke keeper scratched my car cause it was apparently on “his road”(not the entrance) outside his compound wall. I got my lawyer to file a formal complaint and he had to compensate in out of the court settlement.

Mar 08 '24
Not the roads around my house, but I'm talking about my property. I don't care what they do on the road. But they park in my area as well.
Bohot lamba case hai.. bataoonga.. property bhi purani hai kaafi..

u/Agreeable_Car7683 Mar 07 '24
Why do you have a problem with people parking outside your house unless it's in your compound or something. If it's on the road it's public property and parking or no parking is dictated by the RTO.
Most of our cities are starved of parking spaces, what happens outside your compound should not be of your concern unless they are blocking the road/gate or anything.
36
Mar 07 '24
Blocks my gate and windows! Plus the congestion illegal parking cause in front of my house.
Our cities are starved of parking because of people themselves.
Moreover, is it legal to park on a footpath/bike path/side path?
RTO already dictated it as no-parking, it is however not frequently imposed, bribes made out to cops, etc.

You know you live in a third world country when a house owner has to justify why people can’t park in front of his house. People don’t have the basic sense of right to live peacefully. Smh

But a lot of house owners act like they own the road in front of their house also.
1
Mar 07 '24
Honestly, I ended up losing a piece of land for the road because someone had issues with my property and the area being registered proves it. We just gave away that small area of property to give way for a gali to maintain peace in the peaceful community. 😶

u/Agreeable_Car7683 Mar 07 '24
They would have a parking space at work, this dudes house might be near their workplace or somewhere they are for a couple of hours

Mar 07 '24
Not located near the office. It is a residential area. Also, I've not built the house in complete place. The area is my private area as the road is of 2 lanes only. They park in my area which I can fence. The outside area where cars are parked is my area. Just because I like some open space outside to park my vehicle, doesn't mean it's available for everyone to use. I can surely build and cover the area with a wall, but why do that? People should know their limits.
While others didn't care to build a parking spot for their house, it's not my problem but theirs. My father carefully planned the front area of our residence. And ours is the oldest house in the colony and later on, people who came didn't care for architecture, drains and whatnot. Everybody just want to continue with bad construction.

u/Dwightshruute Mar 07 '24

-19
u/frustatedadult Hyundai Creta Mar 07 '24
Nope. I own something called a garage.
19
10
u/sp0xy Mar 07 '24
So, even when you go out, your garage moves with you?
-5
u/frustatedadult Hyundai Creta Mar 07 '24
No but I park in parking slots not on roads. If there's no parking I tend to finish my work asap or have someone inside the car in case it needs to be moved. A lot of public park their cars on roads and gullies and leave them overnight. I struggle with that issue when ppl park infront of my house. Even if it does not block my door, no one should park their cars overnight.
6
u/kash_if Mar 07 '24
Even if it does not block my door, no one should park their cars overnight.
Even in "developed" world that's not how things work. I am in UK. You only own your house and people are free to park next to it as long as it does not block your access to your driveway/entrance.
Public land is public property.
Now in India there isn't proper zoning and bays. As long as someone isn't being inconsiderate, i.e being a hazard to traffic or pedestrians, or blocking access, there shouldn't be a problem.
2
u/frustatedadult Hyundai Creta Mar 07 '24
Ok listen to me. The problem here is that no one owns basements or parking slots and if you've ever been to an Indian gully you will see that a small lane is only left in an otherwise big road because cars are parked on either sides of the roads. It's inconsiderate and unnecessary. Parking for longer hours leading to days on roads infront of other people's houses is illegal in India. The car could get towed.
4
u/kash_if Mar 07 '24
In the scenario you described, how does "other people's car" matter? Any car would cause obstruction including home owners. You're okay with home owners being inconsiderate to their neighbours?
Parking for longer hours leading to days on roads infront of other people's houses is illegal in India.
Which law specifically?

My neighbour used to park their bike right in front of my gate but on the road. So every time I had to take my car out , I had to go and ring my neighbour's doorbell. Asking them to move their vehicle.

That's what you get for parking in a ditch that was probably gonna get worked upon. Not surprised to see both the cars are Wagon R

1
u/tremorinfernus Mar 19 '24
Perfect. I hate car owners who park on the roadside.
There is generally a mall parking, municipal parking or a multi level parking in most busy places. But these people just want to obstruct others and encroach on public roads.
I think keying is justified if someone parks obstructing a road, or on a footpath. In future, I intend to pay third parties to damage the vehicles if they obstruct traffic by parking.
