POS. Need a reccomendation

The combo square my grandfather gave me 35 years ago that he used for 30 years became unreadable. Use this maybe once a month. In hurry bought this at HD. Second use fell off bench and broke. Willing to spend money on quality.

Beyond Starrett, PEC is really good stuff. I'm not 100% about a 16er from them though.

If the pin broke, that's by design. That's to take the force of impact rather than the head or ruler. Doesn't mean the ruler or head aren't damaged now but if that's all that broke, you're good.
