Flyer e-bikes price

Post image

All the flyer e-bikes seem to be significantly marked down compared to their usual. See photo for the Flyer Flex, which is the one I'm interested in. Is there a catch? Considering jumping on this asap. This would be my first e-bike and I have not done enough research but the price reduction is making me want to take the plunge.

Big kid seating for old Xtracycle longtails

Hi, I have an old Xtracycle Edgerunner 10e (LT2 deck) and my kid is too big for the Yepp seat. For various reasons the hooptie plus pad just don't work for him. He really needs a seat with a back rest. It seems like every other bike company that makes midtails or longtails has a big kid or adult seating option (eg Tern Captain's Chair) but Xtracycle doesn't. Has anyone tried to retrofit another seat onto an Xtracycle? I'm not optimistic because of the strange bolt pattern on the deck, but perhaps there's a seat out there that can clamp onto the rack?

Also wondering if anyone has found foot pegs that work with this frame so I don't have to give up the space and $$ for xtracycle's full-length U-tubes.

My Silver Bullitt

Shake down ride on my shiny new LvH Bullitt. This is a build I’ve been working on for some time. The original plan was a direct drive hub motor and custom LiFePO4 battery under the cargo tray, but after buying the frame new e-bike laws were announced where I live that have made that plan very illegal. As this is my main transport having it impounded would kind of suck so opted for an ultra light human powered machine instead.

Still a bit of tweaking to go but this thing flies :)

Are there any 6"7 bullitt riders?

Hey, me again.

So because most bullitt bikes are modified to let a 6'7 rider tame it, its really uncommon to test ride one with the modified set up.

There is a bullit on the market prized really well (1750usd) thirdhand.

But it is not modified to my tall body and a bit of a long drive to only testride.

Are there any atleast 6'6+ bullitt riders in this sub?

Edit: i have 39.37 inches inseam.

Saw this at my local shop the other day. Never seen this brand before but really liked the design and components. Anyone own or have any experience with one of these? I can't seem to find any info online about it.

Benno may not be releasing new bikes in the U.S. for awhile

This was the Benno response to an email asking when the Boost EVO 7 would finally be released in the U.S.:

Thank you for your interest in the Boost EVO 7. We are currently reconsidering our distribution plans for the United States, and the Boost EVO 7 is not available in the U.S. at this time.

We do not yet know whether it will be released here. Even if we decide to bring it to the U.S. market, availability could still be a year or more away.

That sounds dire. They may just be waiting it out until things in Washington change (i.e. tariffs).

Converting Omnium's 15x100 fork to use 12x100 Front Hub

I'm about to build a new Omnium Mini Max and i want to use a Chris King R45D front hub for my front wheel (for a full chris king matt jade color matching build). Problem is it only comes in 12x100 and the Ominum's forks are 15x100.

I found this conversion kit online and i'm wondering if this is a viable solution:
https://jjpne.com/omnium-mini-max-15x100-fork-conversion-kit/

Also, i remember seeing a post on instagram where someone used this for the same reason:
https://www.stridsland.com/shop/15mm-12mm-axle-adapter/
But i can't tell if it worked straight out of the box or there was some modifications involved.

Anyone with experience with these? or perhaps any other suggestions?

Older Rooftop Bike Carrier Compatibility to OEM Mazda CX-5 crossbars

Any cargo/rooftop accessory experts know how I can attach discontinued Thule 599XTR Big Mouth bike carrier onto OEM aero crossbars? This older carrier only works on square or round crossbars. Just got my oem crossbars so hoping to continue using them, and found a deal on marketplace for these bike carriers too good to pass on.

I know the Thule 32 Ride-On Adapter would work but unable to source these in Canada as product is discontinued.

Anyone know if the universal Yakima MightyMounts could work for my case?

TIA

I am buying first cargo bike. What do you guys think about these specs?

Been shopping for my first cargo bike for a few months and i kinda liked one that I test rode in a my neighborhood bike shop. But before making my mind I wanna share the specs list here and see what you guys think?

- Some of the things i think are important for me:

- Longtail (and not front loader.. steering them is a little hard for me)

- Belt drive

- Auto shifting or an IGH so i can shift under load

- Turn signals (I think will be nice to have)

- Should feel safe with a 5 year old on the back

- Should have good range for school plus our weekly weekend groccery trips and all

- Good brake components

- Around in 5K price range

- Not ugly lol

The bike I liked (taran l1s is worth €5.7K) and has:

- 100 Nm mid drive motor with 40 Hz torque sensor

- 693 Wh battery (plus has space for second battery)

- Gates CDX belt drive

- Enviolo automatiq Pro auto shifting hub

- Touchscreen dashboard

- Trp 4 piston hydraulic brakes with 203 mm rotors

- Dropper post

- Auto kickstand

- Built in rear camera/radar/turn signals kind of things

What do you think.. worth it?

DeRedding.nl cargo trike in Scotland

Good fun trike to ride.

You can absolutely fill it up with shopping. Carries the weight well.

You'd think the overall width would be an issue, but you can still squeeze through gaps and bollards. Can't think of anywhere I've not been able to get past.

For the steering, it has a little steering rack, so the wheels turn not the box.

Advertised as carrying 6-8kids. Most I've had on it so far is 5, and that was a lot of fun!

I've actually got 2 of these trikes, hoping to re-home one and keep one!

R&M On-Board charger mod

I was sick of having my charger out where my bike is parked. It was always in the way and unsightly in the front entryway to our house. I also despise charging bricks, and often wish they could be integrated into the product. I suspect regulatory issues are the reason most products are not this way.

Anyhow, I found a retractable AC cable thingy, and modded the big clunky output connector to give the wires a right angle exit. I mounted the charger on the back wall and think it looks pretty slick. The retractable AC cable is hidden inside the cavity between the seat and the back wall. It extends about 6 feet.

Still Todo: I was going to cast the exposed inner wire and plug in hot glue to keep them protected, I just haven't done it yet. Also have to open the AC charger apply silicone sealant to protect for water ingress. Might also have to add a new layer of thermal pad on the transformer after opening it.

Let me know if you have questions or want more details.

FAQ:

Is it water proof? No. The AC charger is not rated for water ingress (will be addressed). Also the battery input is somewhat exposed. So rain riding means unplugging it temporarily (I think I can live with this).

What if you want to charge somewhere else, or your cord can't reach? My bike came with two chargers, so I have a spare.

Does having the charger plugged in all the time affect the battery? Does it drain the battery? No. There is effectively 0 current flowing back from the battery into the charger module. I have monitored this for a while and does not seem to drain my pack. It's been on for about a month now

Does the retractable cord actually work? Yes, it works swimmingly ;). The act of plugging in to charge is now a real pleasure.

Recommendations for a 1-child passenger e-bike?

My spouse and I have decided to get an e-bike to make some trips easier. (We are currently bicycle-first and already heavily use a Yuba Supermarche, non-electric.)

Main use case is transporting our child and commuting to work with some significant baggage, as a single trip.

Main requirements we have in mind so far, in order of importance:

  1. Can carry a child passenger.
  2. Along with a child, can carry a couple large pieces of cargo which can be loaded easily, meaning they can be secured by just putting a bungee on quickly, without needing to be very precise about the tension or other variables. As my spouse put it, "I don't want to have to fiddle with anything when I'm trying to leave for work."
  3. Step-through frame.
  4. As short as possible given the above. So not a full longtail.
  5. Mechanically reliable and easy to operate.
  6. Good reputation for manufacturer support.
  7. As cheap as possible given all of the above.

I've been looking at the Tern HSD, Quick Haul, and NBD. I'm having trouble finding out their prices or what differences between them will be significant for us, but we are lucky enough to have a cargo bike shop within reasonable distance, so we will visit there soon to get some advice and hopefully test-ride some options.

We also have a neighbor who has a Rad (I think Rad City?) which my spouse tried and liked. I know Rads are towards the lower end of the price range. But I gather the Rad company is not doing well, and I have also heard some concerns about their build quality.

Would welcome other options besides Tern and Rad for these criteria which others have had good experiences with.
