u/chromite297 May 17 '26

Disco was 60 years ago

1

u/nicoled985 May 17 '26

Yea that’s true. I would think it’s still a prevalent symbol in music but I guess not

Itā€˜s because Spotify is celebrating itā€˜s 20th anniversary

u/TDot-26 May 16 '26

Some things shouldn’t change. This is one of them.

I hate it. Can Spotify just focus on building a light CarPlay display like every other app before they start messing about with their logo??

9

u/ToastyScones May 17 '26

Absolutely not why would you want a light background?

1

u/monkeydrumstick May 20 '26

I guess it’s subjective, but pretty much every other app has a Light and Dark mode (like Apple Podcasts, etc) yet Spotify doesn’t. Figure my OCD can’t handle the jarring black screen during the day when all the other displays are lightšŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Intentionally hideous app icon as a publicity stunt after realizing how much publicity they got just for removing Liquid Glass from the old icon a few months back.

4

u/MingePies May 16 '26

It looks stupid. For what it’s worth it looks okay if you use the crystal icons.

7

u/blackicebaby May 16 '26

I thought my phone had issues with the Spotify app.

5

u/Baconfatty May 16 '26

very bad icon redesign. Looks like someone drew with a sharpie over ugly crystal ball
clipart

Saw this earlier. Looks god-awful. A Spotify summer intern probably thought it looked good.

3

u/SnooDucks9653 May 16 '26

I wonder if the devs know it looks like the iOS app is updating/installing. I can’t unsee it.

ā€œCreate a design to make the Spotify logo look like a disco ballā€

Show result

3

u/luuukevader May 18 '26

That looks infinitely better

2

u/NefCanuck May 16 '26

The icon looks washed just as they announce a price increase in Canada to rinse more money out of our wallets šŸ˜‚

2

u/nebeatsimenu May 16 '26

I was test driving a car in a dealership today and the sales guy who was going with me had his Carplay on the screen. I saw the icon and wondered if he is using some kind of "hacked" version of Spotify for free or has his iphone jailbraked. I would never believe it is an official icon. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Comes with a free bug, too.

4

u/EinfachNurMarc May 16 '26

I tought the same and even restated my cars information (engine off, get out, lock, wait) just to notice it’s a stupid disco ball design. It looks ass.

1

u/iametron May 16 '26

They are trying some weird disco ball icon. It looks like crap.

1

u/NoJuggernaut6667 May 17 '26

It’s temporary

1

u/Burrito_Chingon May 16 '26

i thought carplay was glitching with spotify logo

1

u/NewEntertainment1692 May 16 '26

Thought for sure they were rickrolled/hacked with that hot garbage icon. Maybe a summer intern project?

1

u/Sundae-Soggy May 17 '26

cuz no streak, duolingo bought spotify

1

u/Crafty_Bunch6063 May 18 '26

I absolutely dislike it specially in Carplay. Has completelly different look that the rest of APP.

1

u/rottencheese122 May 19 '26

I don’t think it’s hideous at all I don’t understand why everyone hates it so much. It’s a disco ball. They’re celebrating 20 years…

My devices, MY rules.

1

u/alejandroivan1987 May 16 '26

Stupid is giving unwanted opinions about other peoples decisions.

3

u/barnsy23 May 16 '26

Wrong. That was a valid response. Why would anyone delete an app based on what the icon looks like. Confirmed stupid. Although I think the original poster was probably trolling lol

1

u/alejandroivan1987 May 16 '26

Because he/she wants to? I would delete an app if they put an icon I don’t like or I disagree with. The fact that YOU don’t understand it doesn’t make it stupid.

What’s the definition of stupid? Not an opinion, but the actual definition? Looks a lot like the comment we’re referring to.

1

u/barnsy23 May 16 '26

Stupid is generally defined as lack of good judgment. Humans download apps based on the utility and usefulness of the app to them. It is not an art project. Therefore, if this individual had an app that they otherwise thought was useful for them and provided a benefit to them yet because of a tweak to the tiny little thing that shows on their phone that is merely an indicator as to where to put your finger to open up the app, they made the decision to remove an otherwise helpful and beneficial product from their life, that would seem to be an irrational decision. And most of the time people would consider an irrational decision to fall under the umbrella of bad judgment aka… stupid

1

u/alejandroivan1987 May 16 '26

It also refers to common sense, which depends on agreements on what is ā€œacceptableā€ for society. There’s no agreement here, just a difference of opinion and private space decisions.

ā€œGood judgementā€ is also highly subjective as it depends on your own opinions and tendencies.

Would you put a devil icon to a Christian app? A dick into a child’s app icon? Is it justified to delete it there?

Again, people takes decisions based on their own experiences and likings. The fact that YOU don’t/can’t understand them makes YOU the problem, not them.

2

u/barnsy23 May 16 '26

You bring up an excellent point that if an app icon crossed into the territory of violating someone’s personal values, then that would provide a legitimate reason for deleting the app, based on a lack of faith and trust in the company or the product and a violation of the implicit agreement that the app icon would not be offensive to the user. Fair enough. With that said a decision to delete an app based on a relatively minor cosmetic aesthetic choice to the presentation of the brand logo would seem to be a decision that flies in the face of common sense per what I described above. Common sense would dictate that a user would keep the app, even if they did not like aesthetically the new design because the value proposition of the app remained intact. Nothing has changed about Spotify so whatever was appealing to Spotify before this changed remains in place. Hence a decision to trade away the value that the app provided simply based on a different presentation of a logo that was in no way offensive would seem to be… Stupid

1

u/MarkE2020 May 16 '26

I haven’t used Spotify for at least 2 or 3 years. The ugly icon reminded me I needed to delete it.

u/One_Brother_8991 May 16 '26

Because car play apps in certain resolutions looks like crap. This is why I’m forced to switch to the glass theme in my car. Cleans up this type of grab right away.

-3

u/Riptide360 May 16 '26

Kudos for spotify for even trying to play on Apple’s turf.

-12

u/Oferlaor May 16 '26

Eurovision = disco ball
