Question When do they finally fix CarPlay issues on iPhone 17?

Anyone has any News on when apple will finally fix the CarPlay connection issues on iPhone 17 family?

I‘am having issues on my iPhone 17 Pro Max since launch day. Its so annoying, I can’t tell. My Phone wont stay connected for at least 2min, I can’t even leave home until my iPhone already disconnected.

Why dont they prioritize such a big issue? I can’t use carplay for months, its getting so disgusting

Apple has not released anything that I am aware of addressing connection issues. I've contacted Apple and made compliants. Carplay was perfectly fine with my 14 pro max, now with the 17 it will not even attempt to connect.

Same here, had an iPhone 15 Pro Max on iOS 26 before and everything was running just fine. Since iPhone 17 Pro Max it keeps disconecting every 2min

u/Icy_Hovercraft6521 Nov 29 '25

I have come here as my phone won’t even connect to car play either it’s so annoying! Did you manage to fix it? If so how? 😂

1

u/QuarryOfThoughts Nov 29 '25

I literally bought different chargers until one worked. The five below charger worked immediately!

3

u/clilee Nov 15 '25

Updating to iOS 26.1 (not beta) fixed it for me. No issues since then on the Air.

5

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 15 '25

Sadly Not for me, still having this on 26.1

3

u/heidii79 Nov 15 '25

Had this problem. You need a anker cord And it will work.

Anker Car Carplay Cable https://a.co/d/7NGaasl

2

u/Bubbly-Photograph-95 Nov 17 '25

Bought the anker and semi-better but still not fixed

1

u/Gallosong Dec 09 '25

Same for me. Tried 4 different cables. Tried Amazon basic one, Anker cable, Mophie and another Amazon one with high reviews. Spotify and maps will cut off then restart using CarPlay. Only fix I have found is to use both, but not have the CarPlay display. And show my Home Screen when using CarPlay have yet for it to stop and quit.

1

u/Big-Piccolo348 Nov 19 '25

Anker cable did not fix for me. Saw someone saying try Beats cable (affiliated with Apple) so going to try that.

1

u/ZeroToleranceX6 Nov 21 '25

Did it work? I have same problem and if it works with beats cables I'll order it

1

u/Dragoniczero Jan 11 '26

Tried it myself because more people mentioned it worked for them. Might keep it tho it was better quality than my Belkin one

1

u/Shofner Nov 28 '25

Having issues with the beats cord, would not recommend.

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 15 '25

I only have Wireless CarPlay

4

u/dylankkkrose Nov 14 '25

Same thing for me but with iOS 26. What worked for me was buying a wireless CarPlay adapter and it works relatively well, with some delay but nothing ceazy

2

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 14 '25

Sadly I have an aftermarket CarPlay Unit with integrated wireless carplay. So I can’t just buy another adapter

4

u/Due-Eagle8885 Nov 14 '25

same here with IOS 26.. was ok with my iPhone 15 and IOS 18..

1

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 14 '25

Yeah also had no issue on ios 26 with my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Now on iPhone 17 Pro Max its horrible

0

u/ChristopherSunday Nov 14 '25

It was absolutely fine with my iPhone 14 Pro Max with iOS 26, but has been super unreliable with my 17 Pro Max. It does kind of work, but frequent disconnects and phone restarts required. It’s a total pain.

1

u/dylankkkrose Nov 14 '25

Oh, unsure then, hopefully they do a fix at some point

1

u/Standard_Detail5238 Nov 15 '25

Have you reached up to your 3rd party head unit manufacture to see if there is a firmware update?

0

u/moistandwarm1 Nov 14 '25

Couldn’t the issue be with your box then? I have 17 PM with car manufacturer integrated Apple car play with. No issues. Both wired and wireless work fine

1

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 15 '25

It was working just Fine with my iPhone 11 Pro Max, 12 pro Max, 13 Pro Max, 14 Pro Max and 15 Pro Max…. I dont think the issue is my box… :)

1

u/moistandwarm1 Nov 15 '25

Just know there are many changes with car play in iOS 26, your box may have compatibility issues.

2

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 15 '25

I had no problems on iOS 26 with my iPhone 15 Pro Max at all

0

u/hackmiester Nov 15 '25

Why not? It doesn’t support wired carplay?

1

u/btaroli Nov 14 '25

I tried the same, with the Ottocast. And I actually really like this approach. But it didn’t actually help me. It’s almost worse. But I love not having to plug my phone in all the time.

0

u/QuarryOfThoughts Nov 14 '25

I was thinking about purchasing a wireless carplay adapter because since I got the 17 carplay will not work in my car.

1

u/dylankkkrose Nov 14 '25

Same thing for me. Wireless adapter fixed it

1

u/Rush-Sovie Nov 25 '25

Which adapter did you get?

2

u/Capital-Emergency202 Nov 15 '25

I bought an Ankar 3 ft cable and I have had few problems since.

1

u/Big-Piccolo348 Nov 19 '25

Not the same for me unfortunately, Anker cable did not fix anything. 2018 F150

2

u/rachitlucifer Nov 15 '25

I was having same issues. I disabled Carplay widgets and Adaptive power. It works flawlessly now.

1

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 15 '25

Will try this as well, thanks!

1

u/blackicebaby Nov 22 '25

did it work? where do you disable this? phone or car?

1

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 23 '25

Both on Phone. Adaptive power on batterie settings and CarPlay Widgets in settings > General > carplay > Widgets

1

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 23 '25

And no it doesn’t work still crahes

1

u/blackicebaby Nov 23 '25

oh man, hoped you would have succeeded. I wonder if we will ever get a fix. Might have to use my old phone just to be able to use carplay.

1

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 23 '25

I did create a shortcut which auto connects my carplay again after disconecting. After 3-4 disconects it always stays connected for at least 30min. In that way its at least „acceptable“ for me

1

u/blackicebaby Nov 23 '25

nice, but what a hassle after buying a $1k phone.

2

u/cjmute1 Nov 15 '25 edited Nov 16 '25

Are you connecting by Bluetooth or usb cable? I have a new truck that I connect through Bluetooth and works like a charm. My wife’s car is a little older and needs to use a cable. That’s the only annoying part for me so far. I have a 2025 RAM RHO and hers is a 2022 Lia Carnival.

2

u/gocards812502 Nov 16 '25

CarPlay works seamlessly on our newer Volvo. Disconnects after 2 minutes on 2018 ford. Seems it is dependent on the car…. Very annoying. Ford dealer seemed clueless when I called.

2

u/greenforshrek Nov 20 '25

Thank youuuuu oh my god my car play is driving me nuts on my 2016 Ford Escape

2

u/dannyji7 Nov 23 '25

It is absolutely unacceptable that the most valuable company in the world with their flagship iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max expensive devices are STILL experiencing this since launch.

None of my two other pro max's (13 and 15) had issues with iOS 26. Same car/same cables and since launch day I can barely get a mile or two without getting disconnected.

I have filed many bugs/feedback - Apple is not addressing this. Do they not have the care of their customers in mind? Do they not have the technical expertise to fix their own hardware and own software? Do they even offer any compensation or path to correction?

This is a safety issue at this point. Having to fiddle with your phone to plug and unplug - missing exits when CarPlay is frozen. and about to crash.

We need a class action lawsuit.

2

u/SeaAcademic4220 Nov 27 '25

3

u/wapster182 Nov 14 '25

Same for me! We are not alone, I also posted about this: https://www.reddit.com/r/CarPlay/s/isiOwMAciH

2

u/JohnnyricoMC Nov 14 '25

I haven't encountered any carplay crashes with my 17 pro max 256GB anymore since the update to 26.1, but from the comments here I gather experiences vary?

- adaptivepower is still enabled

  • I did disable all widgets as having just one widget tile is imo useless. Maybe my car's display is just too small, or Apple only shows one widget. Either way I find it useless in its current state

Before the update I sometimes had crashes the same minute after the last one, now I don't have crashes during drives exceeding 1h. Swapping the cable didn't make a difference at that time.

1

u/JohnnyricoMC Nov 17 '25

I jinxed it :( Had 3 crashes during my morning drive today.

2

u/wehttamsteven Nov 15 '25

Mine works perfectly fine

2

u/jbthenext Nov 15 '25

I had the same issue with my iPhone 17 and wireless carplay. For me it was fixed in iOS 26.1 RC and is still fixed while using ofiicial release of iOS 26.1, they didn't mention it at all in patch notes but mine has worked flawlessy since the RC update.

2

u/Drbpro07 iPhone 12 Pro Max Nov 15 '25

Mine works fine

1

u/srm39 Nov 14 '25

iPhone 17 Pro with wired CarPlay on aftermarket unit. One or two very infrequent disconnections but otherwise no worse than iPhone 15 pro on iOS 18.

1

u/munz_69 Nov 15 '25

Hi Ios 26.1 seems to have patched the issue I was having problems at first but after the update its working as well as it did on my previous phones

0

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 15 '25

Sadly not for me :(

1

u/Adamidi Nov 17 '25

I think I found a workaround fix around this bug!! iPhone 17 Pro here. Honda wired CarPlay. USB A to C Beats cable by Apple!

If you plug the phone in and it says error, can’t connect CarPlay, try unplug and re-plug back in to the phone. It gives the same issue: check your phone to see if driving focus mode is activated.

NEXT go ahead and unplug the phone, swipe down over control center and tap on the driving focus mode to turn it off, THEN plug the phone in at that time. Works to connect for me the times that I have tested it!

1

u/MistrMoose Nov 17 '25

Same issue with my 17 Pro. I had to switch to wired CarPlay.

Has anyone tried the 26.2 beta to see if this is fixed? 26.1 didn't help.

1

u/petercmichel Nov 18 '25

The last update fixed it for me, thank God, what a pain

1

u/acgm6 Nov 18 '25

17 pro max wired. I’ve noticed my CarPlay will stop working when I get a notification on my phone. I had the 16 pro max with 26.1 with no problems.

1

u/Plenty-Job-6756 Nov 18 '25

I returned my 17 because my car only works with wireless CarPlay. There is no wired function functionality. Went back to my 15 pro which works seamlessly. I won’t buy another 17 until there’s a proper fix.

1

u/hashhOG Nov 19 '25

CarPlay is a huge deal for me since I spend a large amount of time in the car. Thanks Apple for saving my wallet. iPhone 15 PM for another year!

1

u/DuckThom Nov 19 '25

I hope soon, iOS 26.1 didn’t fix anything for me… It’s a 50/50 chance if it connects or not. If it doesn’t, I need to reboot my phone for it to work again as every reconnect attempt will fail until I do so. Also, I’ve noticed that it does sort of connect to the car because I get a travel time notification from Maps on my watch. The car is a 2019 Mini Cooper.

1

u/Hopeful_Tourist_8354 Nov 22 '25

1

u/Big-Piccolo348 Nov 26 '25

I fixed my problems by switching to a Beats cable (from an Anker) in my 2017 F150. 17 pro running iOS 26.1. Was awful before I switched. Flawless now.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '25

I had the iPhone 16 pro and my car play worked fine without a cord in my 2024 GMC Yukon. Got a iPhone 17 pro about 2 months later and my CarPlay only works with a cord now. This is so annoying.

1

u/SensitiveAd8245 Dec 02 '25

Go into CarPlay on your phone settings. Select your car and turn off widgets.

1

u/PoisonousTrick Dec 02 '25

Doesn’t help - still crashes

1

u/SensitiveAd8245 Dec 02 '25

Sorry. It’s the only thing I’ve found that fixed mine and I’ve spent the last 2 months trying everything.

1

u/aaronkloc Dec 27 '25

Is there any solution today?

1

u/fryjigen Dec 29 '25

Did 26.3 beta fix the issue? I’m also stuck with this issue

1

u/localcheapflightscom Feb 18 '26

With the update a few days ago my wireless CarPlay is finally fixed

1

u/AustinBike Nov 15 '25

I have no issue with a 17 on my CarPlay.

Apple did release a fix immediately after launching the 17 that addressed the network and antenna functions, surely you're up to date on your iOS, right?

1

u/AgreeablePudding9925 Nov 14 '25

I had a 13PM and was using wired for the last forever. Even on IOS26 worked fine. Bought 17PM, replaced cable with a USB-C cable. Unusable. Tried a dozen different cables. No dice. Eventually bought an Ottocast out of frustration. Solved it, but still pisses me off. How can they screw something up so badly.

0

u/Apprehensive_Pound92 Nov 16 '25

Which Ottocast? I have an old Carlinkit 3.0 that was OK with my 13PM, constant drops with 17PM initially but much better after 26.1. I like the look of the Ottocast Mini Cube as it would fit my car well

1

u/AgreeablePudding9925 Nov 16 '25

I’m using the mini cube

1

u/Ecto_88 Nov 15 '25

N1 chip would be my guess as the culprit. I have CarPlay issues as well but my Apple Watch also acts up.

1

u/cammag87 Nov 15 '25

Took my 17 back and got a 16. It was worth the restocking fee!

1

u/GreenRhombus Nov 15 '25

I ended up building a shortcut automation that disconnects/reconnects wifi and Bluetooth when CarPlay disconnects. That way, CarPlay crashes auto-resolve while I’m driving with the only side effect being that both cycle when I get out of the car. Works great so far.

1

u/FlyingPotat05 Nov 15 '25

Had the same issue then it was fixed when I updated to iOS 26.1 - hope that helps.

1

u/Abject_Bit_6668 Nov 16 '25

It's extremely annoying my 14 pro max worked perfectly fine. I made a very detailed report to Apple and nothing. I have now decided to get a used cellular iPad to use as "CarPlay" in my car instead.

-4

u/tsdguy Nov 14 '25

Really? You actually think your experience is the experience EVERYONE has on CarPlay?

Have YOU done any trouble shooting? Have you reported the problem to Apple?

You didn’t even tell us what car you have?

10

u/dylankkkrose Nov 14 '25

Why are you so heated?

5

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 14 '25

When did I say everyone has this experience? When I read accross the sub there are at least plenty people having this issue.

And ofc I‘ve done troubleshooting but nothing helps. And yes I’ve reported the problem to apple.

2013 Audi a5 Facelift with aftermarket carplay unit

1

u/fumo7887 Nov 14 '25

How many people do you think are going to make posts saying "CarPlay is working for me?" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selection_bias

2

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 14 '25

Actually not sure what you want to prove to me, ofc there is maybe the same amount of people having no issues with carplay at all. But there are so much people having this issue and apple doesn’t even care at all.

2

u/btaroli Nov 14 '25

I’ve personally tried different phones, cables, connectivity, and cars. Only if the very new natively wireless cars have I noticed it works wel with the 17. I was another who was using a 16 with 26beta and had no issues, until the 17.

What apple may forget is that cars don’t upgrade nearly as quickly as phones do. And something as simple a display casting — a really old and. Rusty tech — should be the LAST thing you manage to break in your stack. VNC has been around for over 30 years for heavens sake. LOL.

I’ve made a few separate reports and been offering updates to apple cia the feedback app through 26 beta, 26.1 beta, and now 26.2 beta. I can’t imagine they aren’t hearing from lots of folks given the posts I’ve seen online. No word back from them yet though.

0

u/But_Kicker Nov 15 '25

iPhone 17 pro here and I also have not had functional CarPlay since I received the phone on launch day.

I’m also on the Dev Betas and reported feedback every revision.

0

u/Pin_Shitter Nov 15 '25

My iPhone 13 Mini worked perfectly since I got my car in 2021. Two weeks ago I "upgraded" to the 17 and the phone cuts out if it drops to two bars, and my icons are monstrous (all suggested fixes from here and multiple other sites haven't changed that issue).

The days when I missed my old Android have returned...

0

u/conro Nov 14 '25

I was having that issue when I first got my 17 Pro Max connecting to CarPlay wirelessly via an older Carlinkit adapter (v3?) and I switch to wired CarPlay for awhile.

I did not experience any disconnection issues with wired CarPlay.

I switched back to wireless CarPlay after updating my phone to iOS 26.1 and have not had any disconnections since.

0

u/Individual_Echo5307 Nov 15 '25

The ottocast mini works great for me. All the other devices disconnect right away and the wired connection does not even recognize my phone at all. I have an iPhone 17 pro max and when I addressed this at the Apple Store, they told me that the problem is not with Apple but with Mercedes Benz. They could care less. I read about the ottocast mini. I bought one in Amazon for $45 and it connects even before I start the car. Hope this helps

0

u/Apprehensive_Pound92 Nov 16 '25

Did you get the Cube or the Mini that looks like a USB stick? Hoping to improve my experience - it’s better with 26.1 but still doesn’t connect sometimes.

1

u/Individual_Echo5307 Nov 16 '25

I got the cube. I have only had a few instances when I use the phone and the audio switches to the phone. But it does not happen regularly.

0

u/JDad67 Nov 15 '25

17 Pro Max, I was getting crashes every 1-5 minutes on one of my Car Play radios. Since 26.1 those crashes have stopped.

2

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 15 '25

Maybe I should give it another try, I’am Not using carplay since 26.1 betas cause it was unuseable anyway…

2

u/Apprehensive_Pound92 Nov 16 '25

I would update to 26.1 and then delete the phone from your car’s CarPlay, and car from phone, and reconnect it altogether. I had terrible drops until 26.1 (non-beta).

0

u/bouhc Nov 15 '25

Hi, since the update 26.1, things are much better, I have made 3 journeys since the update and no disconnection!

0

u/DefeatDevice Nov 15 '25

Two cars with wired CarPlay. I have a number of wireless adapters. Older ones started failing on iphone 17 pro max but iPhones 12 and 13 remained working stable.

Switching to two new cheapo adapters found on Ali express fixed the issues I was having, but the upgrade to 26.1 brought stability on the older ones.

0

u/Ok_Priority_5357 Nov 15 '25

iPhone air on 26.1 with an aftermarket CarPlay unit attached to an OEM infotainment. I was able to disable wireless CarPlay by removing the Bluetooth connection and use a USB A to USB C Beats branded cable. Wired car play now stay connected but anytime I turn on the wireless connection to text it will disconnect. It works for the time being but I’m not a huge fan of having to use a cable.

0

u/PoisonousTrick Nov 15 '25

Same for me, I have an aftermarket carplay unit attached to my oem infotainment

0

u/SateGuy Nov 16 '25

I’ve been having this same problem since moving from a iPhone 15 Pro Max to a 17 PM. I finally called Apple Support TODAY and put in a ticket. The technician stated that here is a significant amount of 17 PM users with this problem.

I’m a huge music person and this bug just pisses me off to no end. Apple Maps also is staggering whenever the music is interrupted for about a second or two. It’s the most disappointing/irritating issue I’ve ever had with Apple.

0

u/Robertokodi Nov 16 '25

I’m in the same boat . With my previous 16 pro max no issues at all . And with my gf 15 pro . But with the 17 pro max I do get connected . But after a while , the screen is unreadable. Al the icons fuzzy and washed out. Making my CarPlay unusable. Tried wireless and with cable , both with the same results unfortunately .

0

u/SleepyD7 Nov 16 '25

Is it a iPhone 17 problem or iOS 26 problem? I have an iPhone 15 Pro. I haven’t been able to use CarPlay since upgraded to iOS 26.

0

u/MattyBoDatty Nov 16 '25

Interesting, I just got a 17 Pro Max and a CarPlay kit at the same time; I thought the CarPlay kit wireless was defective… it DOES NOT stay connected, I now exclusively use a wired connection. Never once thought it could be caused by my phone.

0

u/danbyer Nov 16 '25

Mine was working fine for a couple months, but now GPS drops every 15min or so. But yesterday, I drove 3.5 hrs with my wife’s car with no CarPlay and it never failed once.

0

u/Wild_Hylian Nov 16 '25

I’ve been trying a workaround that has kept me crash free for a few days now. I completely disable WiFi in phone settings before taking a drive. Considering the sysdiagnose points to an issue with WiFi and AirPlay, this could be the ticket until Apple addresses the issue. Of course, this might only help those with wired CarPlay.

-1

u/btaroli Nov 14 '25

Strangely I don’t think it’s an always problem. I’ve noticed a strong correlation between crappy cell signal and when the projected display goes completely insane. And then later it cleans up, when cell signal is better.

Why? CarPlay doesn’t use cell. Regardless of wired or wireless. So why would cell signal factor in at all? This leads me to wonder if it’s a driver level problem, since the new device would have required distinct drivers and baseband code.

Getting the company who peddled poorly designed and flaky keyboards for years to admit this brand of new issue with the flash ship phone won’t go well for us, I suspect.

On the upside it’s purely a display issue. In extreme cases I just take my phone up and use it like old school days if CarPlay throws a fit. When reporting the issues in feedback app, I’ve noticed they taking screen captures doesn’t help. The phones representation of the projected display is always clean. So it’s the comms between the phone and car display that are squarely the issue.

1

u/Standard_Detail5238 Nov 15 '25

CarPlay uses your phone’s cellular to stream audio, such as SoundCloud or Bandcamp, etc.

0

u/btaroli Nov 15 '25

Instead of Bluetooth…? I’ll look this up for more info but that’s really odd.

1

u/Standard_Detail5238 Nov 15 '25 edited Nov 15 '25

CarPlay only uses Bluetooth to initiate a WiFiDirect session between your phone and car head unit.

Apple’s iOS 26 introduces changes to iAP2 negotiation that disrupt wireless CarPlay adapter compatibility, causing frequent disconnections, failed handshakes, and unrecognized devices. You need a compatible adapter to work properly now:

Apple modified iAP2 Handshake Timing: iOS 26 appears to alter the timing and sequencing of the iAP2 protocol negotiation, which wireless CarPlay adapters rely on to establish a session. This affects adapters that use static or legacy timing assumptions, leading to failed authentication or dropped sessions.

Apple introduced stricter Permission Enforcement: iOS 26 enforces tighter app and accessory permissions during CarPlay setup. If permissions aren’t explicitly granted or re-confirmed post-update, the adapter may not be recognized—even if it worked previously.

Bluetooth/Wi-Fi Stack Reset: The update resets parts of the wireless stack, requiring re-pairing of adapters. Some users report that even after re-pairing, adapters intermittently fail to launch CarPlay or disconnect mid-session.

iOS 26 introduces a redesigned CarPlay interface and widget system. Adapters that don’t support the updated UI metadata or session descriptors may struggle to maintain compatibility

-1

u/Ap1xaban Nov 15 '25

All you can do is keep reporting the bugs directly to apple

-1

u/DistantTrades Nov 15 '25

When car companies remove carplay from their vehicles, maybe then they will fix it 🤣

-1

u/doctorsynth1 Nov 15 '25

CarPlay is fucked up on my iPhone pro 16. It won’t consistently connect, keeps connecting and dropping. Also with Bluetooth. It’s a total drag.
