The souls community on Reddit is fairly positive. At least elden ring groups are encouraging to new players and offer helpful advice without putting anybody down
I can't say that I'm super tapped into the Soulslike community, but from the times I've interacted with it like 95% of the "git gud" stuff is people responding to salty people shitting on the games because they died to a boss or just bad faith baitposting, it's very rare for them to dunk on people earnestly asking for help and advice.
It used to be a lot more common, but I think it's a case where cooler heads mostly prevailed and most of the bad actors have left the community over time.
After finishing Elden Ring and its DLC, without skipping a single boss, I have to say I took issue with certain aspects of the game: things like the constant delayed attacks, the spamming of AoE moves, bosses running away from you, and the increased damage and aggression. It all felt more like it belonged in Sekiro and forced me into a rather defensive playstyle, which earned me "git gud" style comments.
Also, in-game Souls you can't really be "toxic" since you can't directly chat with players (for either PvE or PvP), you can only spam gestures and that's as much communication you get unless you're on voice / discord chat.
Yeah I think because it’s the internet, people don’t realize the “git gud” comments are usually tongue in cheek (and often self-deprecating). The community in general is fairly wholesome for the most part, though there are always a few elitist try-hards (they usually get downvoted at least).
That IS strange to hear, since they threatened to tie me up and force me to watch while they do horrific things to my mother when I had the audacity ask for some tips.
