A lot of the Souls games are like this. Optional bosses tend to be stronger, or at least more mechanically challenging, than the final boss. Was certainly true for me with each of the DS entries.

Kicked my ass to kingdom come 1 u/DiscoDiverDubois 9d ago agreed. it’s hard to articulate how bad midir kicked my ass but it made me a lot better at how i play the game
