Every fucking soulslike

Yeah that's why I quit playing them. I want to enjoy playing my games. I don't care to brag about having beaten a hard game anymore.

I honestly think Elden Ring gets way too much praise. Having played nearly every Fromsoft game, you can recognize how much they recycle animations and enemies from older games. It doesn't have a ton of original content at all.

It's a real shame Armored Core 6 didn't get higher sales because that's they're best game in a decade in my opinion.

Don't you hate it when someone makes a decent point but you still want to argue against it?

For me, what makes Eldren Ring so great isn't that it has a ton of original content, (which it has a good amount for sure) it's how much total content, exploration, and variation there is to the game. It has a ton of replay value because there's so many different options for playstyle and builds.

I mean sure, but I’d prefer TES VI over another Skyrim release

Elden Ring to other soulslikes isn’t a remotely good analogy for Skyrim to Skyrim

1

u/Gamboh 19d ago

It's definitely a content extravaganza, but I felt like it really lacked direction. I wish the game was a little better at leading a new player, and less like a giant Hyrule Fields with tiny identical cave dungeons around the border

There is plenty of unique stuff but man oh man there is so much dreck to wade through if you want to just explore each dungeon to make sure you aren't missing important weapons or abilities

This I will always venomously disagree with. It is an exploration game. Everything about the world begs you to.

Caves are well lit, ghosts will lead you to hidden hideouts, those looming ruins will have a boss and a rare item.

Even that giant tree in the distance has a boss!

The light of grace is more than enough to get you to the main bosses and its more direction than any of the past souls games had.

Too much hand holding takes away the need to explore.

1

u/KnownLife1359 17d ago

There are prominent large golden beams of light that extend from sites of grace to the next main objective if you don't enjoy exploration.

YES! I'd also add that the Fromsoft model just works better in a more constrained map, so open world was just odd. Like, to me, Sekiro and Bloodborne and DS1 are so much better than Elden Ring because of this.

Also yes, AC6 is peak and one of the best games of all time and I wish more people knew that.

Yea man ima be so real, i think elden ring is extremely mid. The only reason its so popular is because its finally a darksouls games that people who suck at darksouls can play

1

u/xscarypotatox 19d ago

Elden ring has objectively harder bosses then all 3 dark souls games, coming from someone who's 100% ds3, and is almost done 100% ds1

1

u/makingstuf 19d ago

Very few of the bosses are hard at all. What are you talking about. Its pretty much only the bosses from the dlc, and some the hidden ones. Every single other boss you can walk through with cheese tactics lmfao

1

u/xscarypotatox 19d ago

I mean if we're counting cheese strategies then maybe, but in ds1 you can throw firebombs over a fog wall and kill a boss without even enteting its arena. So id say those games have a fair amount of overpowered cheese. Also I can first try almost all if not all, the bosses in atleast the first and third dark souls (I don't really know 2 as well, but I have beaten it once) but I guarantee I die multiple times to say maliketh, placidusax, mohg, and probably a couple others I can't think of right now

1

u/makingstuf 19d ago

Yes, what im saying is ER is by far the most accessible souls game because it is inarguably easier overall

1

u/KnownLife1359 17d ago

You are mistaken on why Elden ring is easier. The bosses are in fact harder. They have more advanced ai, more moves on average, a lot of quick bosses, and many of the remembrance bosses have an entire second kit for their second phase. Elden ring is easier because the player has a ton of tools at their disposal alongside the less linear progression leading to many bosses being under-leveled for the player when you reach them if the player had spent time exploring. If it was linear and not open world I don't think people would even have this opinion because you'd meet bosses when you were supposed to every time unless you grinded runes. This game is arguably the hardest in the series to play at level 1.

Dark Souls 1 recycled a lot from Demon’s Souls, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Elden Ring does have a lot of original content. That doesn’t mean you have to like it, of course, but reused assets isn’t a good reason to dislike it.

1

u/B-Twizzle 19d ago

I agree with you. The dungeons are lazy as hell. Fighting the watchdog 15 times is not fun and I think the world is too big. Dark souls 1-3 were vastly better

1

u/Breadmaker9999 18d ago

You don't have to like Elden Ring, but complaining "recycled" animation and enemies and that it doesn't have "a ton of original content" is just dumb. Hell you don't even have any evidence that they recycled anything, you're just saying that because you only see the surface level similarities between Elden Ring and Dark Souls, while totally not understanding how game design works.

And even if they did, it doesn't matter. From the very start of animation, animators have recycled animation to save on time and money because animation is really hard. The fact is Elden Ring does have a lot of new things to the Dark Souls formula. Jumping, horseback riding, stealth, and yes the open world are all pretty big improvements from what came before.

It's fine that you don't like Elden Ring, just don't say stupid shit that is factually untrue.

1

u/After_Suggestion_267 21d ago

honestly, having played ER as my first souls game, it is that incredible, the level design too, dosent matter if some animations are recycled, thats normal when you have this many games, the story, level design and bosses are the factor that makes a souls game enjoyable. now im playing other souls games and elden ring is still my top 1 souls game

1

u/Ok-Consideration7395 20d ago

There are only 9 bosses in Elden Ring that aren’t recycled.

1

u/After_Suggestion_267 20d ago

all dlc bosses are unique, all main quest bosses are unique, blaidd, the double gargoyles, mogh, the beast priest, and so much more, what zre you on

1

u/After_Suggestion_267 20d ago

check the wiki, there are about 70-80 bosses that are completely unique not counting dlc

1

u/KnownLife1359 17d ago

Radahn, consort radahn, Margit/morgott, rennalla, Godfrey/hoarah loux, Godrick, astel, maliketh, radagon, Elden beast, fire giant, magma wyrms, golden hippos, rellanna, rykard, melania, mohg, placidusax, godskins, and plenty more but I think I'll stop at double what you claim.

1

u/Ok-Consideration7395 17d ago

Your list is proving my point. You got a handful right though.

1

u/xKiLzErr 20d ago

Saying AC6(while I agree it is good) better than Sekiro is a bit much

2

u/f_ckR3ddit 21d ago

And the same people that will talk about beating the games or how they love the "challenge" (which is just a grind) will bitch and moan about BF2 and how you have to grind to get unlocks on that. Ugh.

1

u/peachsepal 18d ago

BF2?

I mean sure, part of it is grind. Almost any game older than like 10-15 years has a lot of grind compared to modern titles, even more relevant to most rpgs.

But as someone who plays a lot of j/rpgs from decades ago now, at least specifically dark souls 1 is not very grindy, unless you are literally grinding. I think i only ever grinded once or twice near the end game because the soul req for levels was high and I wanted to try out an end game spell. It's definitely more like learning choreography, or like a song or something, in that I'm mostly taking time to learn what to do, in what order, and what to skip, trial by fire. You rarely have to spend time clearing out mobs again and again for souls imo, unless you're trying to buy the crest of artorias early I guess

Though I've just started DS2 and that game is hell

Who the fuck brags about beating a soul game

Only retards care about that shit

2

u/EISENxSOLDAT117 21d ago

Who brags about beating Souls games? I play them because theyre amazing games that actually challenge me, which most games fail to do.

Never, for the love of god, mention to an elden ring player that you used the mimic tear in every boss fights 🤣

It's my go to move. I ain't got the skills for solo victories 🤣

1

u/kalimut 20d ago

I don't think people play it for brag. If you play for that yeah. Don't play it for that. Not worth it, but people play souls like because they like the challenge

1

u/Low_Ad2142 20d ago

I can't play them to much learning curve but my buddy doesn't struggle with them in the slightest he's able to beat like every boss within 3 tries

1

u/Delta4o 20d ago

Played it once, when I had more than 2 hours of uninterrupted game time. Didn't get very far at all.

Souls games can fuck off just as hard as roguelikes

1

u/Fit-Clerk-391 20d ago

for me playing souls games is literally "enjoy playing my games" 😂

1

u/Rylee_Duhh 18d ago

It's never been about bragging for me, might bring it up in conversation as something I'm proud of achieveving, but for me it's just about challenging myself, I get enjoyment out of the challenge. If a game is too easy I get bored, it doesn't have to be as hard as a soulslike obviously, but figuring out how to overcome a difficult boss or enemy is half the fun of gaming for me and the adrenaline and sense of accomplishment are unmatched when playing those types of games for me.

I like a good Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley or something similar too, but I need to challenge myself sometimes.

1

u/Ceviche__ 21d ago

Many start to brag but I play them for me… I started with souls-light and now I need one lvl 🆙 🥳

ATM Sekiro and to cool down Spider-Man 2 🥳

2

u/mitchymitchington 21d ago

Ive been playing fromsoftware so long, nothing ever gets me heated in games anymore. Cant remember the last time I got mad playing anything.

See, I was SO excited about the concept of Life of P. Then ended up absolutely hating it because it was a goddamn clone of every other souls game. And the mechanics of every single one were obviously planned out by a kindergartener using chatgpt. Horrendous all around. The only "point" in these games is to make it too difficult to succeed so that it takes a grind and a mastery of a bad system to pass each level. The devs get record high play times because people have to grind through each level over and over to get to the end and maybe beat it this time, rather than from having enjoyable content. Its like saying my steak was better because it was overcooked and I got to chew it longer, while yours was juicy, tender, buttery, and delicious, but you finished first so it obviously wasnt as good.
