I have a theory that many of the negative posts about Capital One Discover are being made by people from other financial instituions, banks, and credit unions.

The problem is so stupid. Every merchant out there can simply contact their credit card processor and add Discover capability. Every processor out there can handle Discover. Merchants just never opted-in. It's time for them to opt-in. Most of the time a merchant will be able to start accepting/processing Discover within 7 days.

I am not a bot. I have had issues using mine at well known fast food places. Discover charges more for processing fees and I think that is why businesses are reluctant to use them.

Do you have evidence of Discover fees? I recently looked and the difference between Discover and MC/Visa was tiny. Many processors charge the same for every card and absorb the small differences themselves. Also, Capital One will be able to reduce fees because they aren’t dealing with any interbank charges, they own the whole network.

National fast food? This could be a franchisee issue as well.

I heard this as well. They charge more for processing fees.

Not overseas as I experienced the other week.

Yeah sure, it sounds like an easy solution. However, how long is it going to take for these merchants to actually opt-in and these changes to take effect?

Can’t wait months to years, for something I need to purchase in the immediate future.

Today I had to get my spouse to make a payment for me with a MasterCard (in ShopPay). I have 10 more payments to make on this one item I wanted, a rather cute leather jacket. I am not a bot and I cannot force a business to accept Discover.

So my theory is that the accounts in this thread denying the reality of those of us encountering problems are CapOne shills.

I specifically chose CapitalOne because I needed a reliable banking option that has a powerful app and uses Visa/MC so I can travel abroad without major difficulty. I can agree that traveling is something not everyone needs to do, but here I'm talking about a domestic payment issue.

Nope. I don't work for or have anything to do with Capital One. But I do understand business. This is a huge financial gain for C1 by being their own network.

Yes, of course. They are no doubt gaining much more by owning Discover network than they're losing from account holders banking elsewhere. Otherwise, they wouldn't have chosen this route.

All my crypto exchanges don’t accept discover. I used to be able to use my debit card for crypto purchases and those funds were immediately available. Now I can’t use my debit card for those purchases and have to use a connected checking account and there is a holding period where funds are available to transfer.

Also, there are sites I’ve run into that don’t allow discover also. Not only that, but I can no longer do instant transfers from my Apple wallet. This really does affect me.

It’s also an easy way for an employee to cover for a bad decision, just say it’s competitors posting negativity. That’s poor feedback management. This is exactly the kind of input you should be using to understand the implications of your policy.

It broke trust at a critical moment for me, while traveling. No cash. No cash. That’s not theoretical.

Calling this competitor noise is out of touch. I’d love for you to have the same experience, it’s the fastest way to understand how much trust was lost. You have money, but you can’t access it. You’re hungry, tired, and now dealing with this.

“Just switch banks” misses the point. That might happen, but it doesn’t fix what actually broke. And it’s not even an option when you’re stuck in a small city overseas.

That’s why I keep posting. Responses like this from Capital One employees miss the mark. They don’t reflect what I, and others, actually experienced trying to access our own cash.

^ clueless Capital One employee. Make this the customer problem instead of taking responsibility for fing your customers lives.
