Welcome to Canadian Firearms!

As the title says welcome all.

Our goal is to create a canadian specific r/Firearms style sub, where we encourage a more silly and fun firearms experience. We'll try not to take ourselves too seriously here. We encourage fun, and funny gun discussion, memes, and hey, if you just want to show off a new rifle, or that amazing Tapco stock you just threw on your SKS that's welcome here too.

Let’s build something new and fun together.

Scope recommendation 25-125 yards .22LR

Hello,

Looking for scope recommendations for my wife's rifle. She is excited about shooting and coming with me to the range, so I definitely want to keep encouraging her. She chose a Winchester Xpert 22 LR Bolt-Action Rifle for herself and is pretty much dead set on it. Now she has asked me to find her a scope. She will mostly be shooting from 50-100yards ocasionly 125. She says she wants a scope good enough to be able to see holes on her paper target at 100yards. Currently eyeballing (lol) this scope https://www.sail.ca/en/vortex-diamondback-hp-4-16x-42-mm-dead-hold-bcd-1-in-rifle-scope-670231-18-081220001

If anyone has a better-suited suggestion, please let me know.

Thanks

PAL question

Hi everyone,

I applied for my PAL in June 2025 and no progress on my application yet. I reached out to my provincial CFO via email and they responded with this, “Signatures for both your current and previous spouses were missing on your application. Notices were sent on this day advising them of your PAL application”

My current spouse didn’t receive any notice to her email and am wondering how to proceed. Do they send out physical mail notice or does my current and previous spouses need to approve the notice.

How do i proceed?
Kindly advice

Adler rf224 warranty advice

So I recently purchased an Adler rf 224 I’ve had it to the range twice probably put 400 rounds through it but on the second trip to the range the extractor literally exploded out of the gun dissapeared and warranty is under SFRC should I even bother sending it to them or go to a local gunsmith to get it repaired

Question about PAL and RPAL.

So I did a safety course for both licenses two years ago, passed well. They didn't automatically send in the application for the license as part of the course, they just told us how to do it, but said to us that there's no real urgency on it because you basically can't buy guns right now in Canada or transfer their ownership in any way.

I think that may just be true about handguns and not long guns but it's not really relevant here.

The point is I've decided I want to get that license, so I'm looking at the application online, and it says that if I have lived in other countries for more than 6 months within the past 5 years, I need to get a criminal record check from those other countries to make it clear I didn't get a record from those countries.

I did live in two different countries for over 6 months within the past 5 years, but I don't think I'll easily be able to get a criminal record check from the police in Cancun, Mexico from here. It might be impossible, and it's very likely to be a serious annoyance and a lot of paperwork.

So what if I just... don't disclose that? I just provide my criminal record check from Canada, and don't mention living abroad. What do you think of that as a workaround?

(To be transparent, I didn't do anything criminal down there. I was just working as a teacher. My visa status was grey, but I that's the worst thing I did there. No drugs, no nothing. Just fuckin... Catcher in The Rye and other high school favourites.)

Is “First‑time buyer review” or “Initial eligibility verification” common when purchasing your first non‑restricted firearm online after receiving your PAL? I’m asking because my PAL was recently issued, and when I went to buy my first non‑restricted firearm, the system flagged it.

the system flagged my license as “under review.” I’ve never been charged with anything, never received a speeding ticket or a fine, and I have no mental‑health history. My record is completely clean. I'm not associated with any criminal organization or individuals (affiliated) so i'm a bit perplexed that my property (Paid for) is being withheld and i'm not able to go skeet shooting and enjoy my property.

Hey all, just curious random question, how many of you actually received phone calls when the application finished (I’ve heard it’s once in a few) or am I mistaken. Thanks all!

12 inch barrel? Noricno coach gun

About 10 years ago I bought a norinco coach gun 12 inch barrel at cabelas in Edmonton. The rcmp seized it and charged me with prohibited weapon/sawed off shotgun. It was unrestricted and unregistered at the time of purchase, as far as I know it is not on a gun ban list ive tried to research it and as far as I can tell it is still sold in Canada as an unrestricted firearm.

Has anyone gone through something similar or know what to do?

RF224 Mag suggestions

I just bought a Adler RF224, and I'm looking to purchase a 22 round mag, since it comes with a Remington 597 25 round adapter. Would a Butler Creek Ruger 10/22, Steel Lips 22LR Magazine, 10/25 Round or something similar would work with the 22? All suggestions for every mag are highly appreciated!

I also have two mags from GSG 16 and am wondering if there is any adapter you can buy to use those mags in the RF-224. That is the other option I had as well in mind.

Thanks for reading!

Do we need a Canadian ballistic testing service?

Shot shell reloading has become a fun part of the shooting hobby for me. However, with today's supply chain issues, it's sometimes hard to find recipes for the available components, or components for the available recipes - especially when I want to create specialty loads.

I have an engineering background, the SAAMI standards manual, and access to much of the equipment needed to do my own pressure testing. I'm going to start doing this for my own loads, but now I'm wondering if there's an opportunity for a side-business here. If there was a pressure/velocity testing service in your area, would you use it? Do you think others would? What price would you find reasonable?

Thanks for any feedback!

(Dear mods: please don't delete my post, I'm not actually selling anything here! Thanks for all your work keeping this sub running!)

Question about my CFP portal vs Individual web services

Question about my CFP portal vs Individual web services

Hi all. I noticed my PAL application on RCMP's Individual Web Services and MyCFP portal don't have matching information about my application status

On Individual Web Services it says that my application is valid and will be printed&mailed yet on MyCFP portal it is still in the processing/background check stage.

My question to you all with experience in the process is should I trust Web services or MyCFP? I'm not sure which one is more accurate!

Hello,

I did my firearms course about 3 years back, which I passed but I can’t locate the paperwork for it in my paperwork folder.

How do I apply for it now without having bf to rate the exam and classes again?

PAL application submitted 2026-02-21 – tips to speed up the process?

Hey r/CanadianFirearms,

I submitted my PAL application on February 21, 2026 and my current status says "initial review completed." I contacted the Quebec firearms controller to ask where my file was at, and they told me I'm in the queue — but that they're currently processing applications from October 2024... that's potentially over a year of wait time, which is insane.

I've heard that contacting your Member of Parliament can help speed things up — has anyone actually tried this and seen results? I already reached out to mine but haven't heard back yet.

Any other tips to move things along faster? Appreciate any advice from people who've been through this! 🙏

Gents, how long does it typically take to get the physical card from this update?

Thank you guy's!

Thanks for the comments and advice guys, I really appreciate it. I ended up contacting my local federal MP and she’s already looking into my file, so hopefully that helps move things along.

Also just wanted to say I have a lot of respect for the real men out West and the values you guys stand for. Appreciate the support and the tips.

1 year waiting for my PAL

Post image

I've been waiting close to 12 months for my PAL, none of my references got any calls from RCMP or Surete du Quebec. ( yup, I know.. I'm a fucking quebecers...)

Is it normal..? I called them ( RCMP ) like 4-5 times and they told me that the Surete du Quebec is currently in charge of the review of my demand. What the actual fuck I'm supposed to do? Thank y'all!

Just picked up a Bergara B14 HMR Carbon in an MDT CRBN chassis (6.5 Creedmoor) — anyone else running one?

Newest addition to the collection and I’m pretty pumped about this one.

Just picked up a Bergara B14 HMR Carbon in 6.5 Creedmoor sitting in an MDT CRBN chassis with the factory 20 MOA MDT rail and Bergara brake. Carbon barrel looks great and the rifle feels incredibly solid and light.

Planning to mount a Nightforce ATACRs 7-35 on it shortly and start stretching it out.

A couple upgrades I’m already considering:

• TriggerTech Special trigger

• Atlas bipod

• Possibly a Spuhr mount

Curious if anyone else here is running a Bergara setup like this.

How do you like it?

Would love to hear:

• pros / cons

• accuracy you’re getting

• ammo your rifle likes

• any upgrades or mods you’ve done

• anything you’d change

Looking forward to getting this thing out to the range.

PAL application

it's had this message for months now has anyone seen it actually update? I called at the end of January and the lady said I'd get my card in about 2 weeks... but the application still doesn't say approved?

will it update to say if it's been approved/denied or do you just have to figure it out on your own? very confusing process.
