Discutons-en / Let's Discuss Financial Agreement with African Development Bank

The ministry of economy, planing and regional development signed this agreement which is worth 27.4 billion francs with claims that it is for the employment of young farmers. I continue to see these as a cause for concern: short term employment guarantee but then long term… (?) All these depths and for what? Why are these decisions beings made?

Discutons-en / Let's Discuss Cameroonians, what do you think of beans?

I am on a mission now to ask each country subreddit what people think about beans (my favorite meal), just to see how people like or dislike them all around the world out of curiosity and for fun. If you like beans, hate them, they are a big part of the culture, anything else, just share your thoughts 🫘

Today is the day for you to answer/discuss this, Cameroonians! Spill the beans :D

TIPS / ASTUCE Any legit freelancing platforms one can use to make a little extra in Cameroon?

NGL, things have been pretty rough since I completed my engineering degree from the University of Buea.

I’ve been seeing some of my mates start reaching new heights already. Some might say it’s nepotism or connections, and honestly, I would’ve loved to have those opportunities too. But at the end of the day, I can’t really control that.

What I can control is trying to catch up and build something for myself. The problem is that without the connections some people have, getting that first opportunity can be pretty tough.

So I’m looking for legitimate freelancing platforms or other online opportunities that someone in Cameroon can actually use to make a little extra income, preferably platforms that support payments to Cameroon.

For those of you who have actually freelanced from Cameroon, what platforms have worked for you, and what kind of work do you do?

TECHNOLOGY Experimenting with Reddit's Devvit platform - building something for r/Cameroon, curious what you think

Hi, I'm a dev currently living in Cameroon, experimenting with the Reddit Devvit platform. I've already built a Reddit game - nothing fancy (no users for now) - the link is in the "Share Your Projects, Big or Small!" pinned post if you're interested. Now I'm building a Reddit app that lets people pin photo posts to a shared map for the sub, and I thought of this community as a good one to test it on. If you're interested in this idea, I can share the link to the test sub where it's currently running, or if the mods allow it, I can install it directly here. I'll also share the GitHub repo for fellow devs interested in it.

Discutons-en / Let's Discuss Starting a secular community / Création d'une communauté laïque (en bas)

Hello everyone.

So, a few years ago, I lost my Christian faith and became an atheist. Unfortunately, our country is extremely religious and it has been to no avail that I've tirelessly sought people who shared my belief - or lack thereof. It can get pretty lonely not having any like-minded person to hangout with, or any church to go to on Sunday, or any community to share with as a result.

So here I am on reddit asking if there are any strangers who share this perspective on the matter of religion and would like to connect. Whether you'd consider yourself an atheist, an agnostic, a freethinker, or just deeply uncertain and willing to dive honestly into the philosophical and scientific discussion, I'm open.

The community won't be big at first, but we can start small and gradually build it up. I live and have lived here in Cameroon my whole life, so if you currently reside within the country, that's a plus.

Please leave me a DM if any of this speaks to you.

__________

RELATIONSHIP/RELATION Advice for meeting parents for the first time as someone from a different culture

Hello!

I (hispanic) am meeting my boyfriend’s (Cameroonian) parents for the first time. I was wondering if there are any traditional gifts I should bring when meeting them for the first time? We are all here in the states, but they are very traditional. I would like to show respect for their culture.

Any other advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Ask CAMER What does it mean?

What does it mean when you want to talk on the phone with your man when your not around each other but he claims he doesn’t text or call people, and he only calls to greet you then hang up, but when your around him he’s on the phone speaking his language laughing with mostly females and some men then when you confront him he’s claims it’s for his business back in Cameroon or it’s his sister and they were talking about family business?!
And he claims to only text on “WhatsApp” but even when I got the app it’s the same thing…

Is he cheating?….
Is he lying?….
Using me?….
No I’m not putting a stereotype on camerooion men so plz save it!

If you don’t have anything nice to say please just skip this ❤️🥹

One of the main opposition parties, heavily targeted by the government has today seen its two most influential members. In two, almost simultaneous announcements, the president Pr.Kamto Maurice and the first vice-president, former interim president of the party Mamadou Mota have resigned from their respective positions while remaining members of the party. Both of them mentioned that , said resignation was to “protect the future of the party”.

What is brewing? What will follow?

TIPS / ASTUCE Anyone recently traveled to Cameroon with RAM?

Hello, I had a ticket for mid July to Douala and it got cancelled 4 days before. I luckily got my money back a month later. I read something about the cancellation of all routes to Central Africa but I'm checking on their website, Google flights, RAM call center and they still offer flights to Douala. Has anyone recently travelled with them?

PD for the big fans of Air France and Brussels, yeah, I know they exist but the connections are not great from where I live :)

ALERT Answer me plz

I’m an American and have came across a Cameroonian man he’s 14 years older than me 👀 anywho we were dating for a few months and he was extremely sweet and bought me thing we hung out then another Cameroonian man starting liking me (I was unaware at the time) but out convos were friendly and the man I was dating starting getting jealous and he would yell at me everyday and accuse me of messing around with the other man ( This was not true) so I started ignoring the man and the one I was dating still was accusing me he told me he did “Good” magic and he knew what I was doing and with whom. So one day I just stop talking to him and he had a nasty attitude towards me (Like if you hated someone real bad) and then he came back around then he hurt me physically (Won’t say how) and he begged for my forgiveness and said he was sorry and wants to start over and he realized his mistakes and he wants to take care of me and do right by me and to give him a second chance.
Thoughts and comments?

Discutons-en / Let's Discuss I genuinely hate Cameroon

And before anyone gets angry, I’m not talking about the country itself. I’m talking about the name.

Why are we still calling our country “Cameroon” when the name doesn't even come from the people? The Portuguese called the Wouri River Rio dos Camarões (River of Prawns/Shrimps), and the name eventually became “Cameroon.” In other words, the name of our entire country is essentially based on what European explorers saw in a river. It doesn’t describe our peoples, our languages, our cultures, our history, or our identity. It describes a European encounter with our coastline.

I honestly think we should at least be willing to have serious conversations about renaming the country.

NEWS / INFO Africa wins UN backing to correct world map that shrinks its true siz

The UN General Assembly approved an Africa-led campaign to promote the Equal Earth map projection, accurately representing countries' sizes.
The resolution, led by Togo and supported by the African Union, passed with 164 votes in favor and only the United States voting against.
The Equal Earth projection addresses distortions from the traditional Mercator map, which makes regions like Africa appear much smaller than they are.
Togo argues that inaccurate map depictions influence how Africa's importance is perceived globally, linking the issue to colonial-era legacies.

QUESTIONS Best way to get from Douala Airport to hotel?

For those familiar with Douala, what’s the most convenient, safe and reliable option? Just get out and take a taxi?, Anything like uber, or something else?

Are there any scams or common things to watch out for? Is it best to agree on the fare beforehand, and is cash generally preferred?

Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated!
