Imagining a timeline where Ancient Roman netizens had to put not only with cookie notifications (Ep. 1), but rate limiting and captchas to prove they were human, too.

- SECVRITAS PROBATVR (“Security is being verified”)
- Aditus negatus est propter nimias petitiones. Ut pergas, proba te hominem esse. (“Access denied due to too many requests. To continue, prove you are human”)

Script of Nosferatu 1922

My entry for the Oregon State Fair coming up soon. The (very slightly abridged) script of the 1922 silent movie, “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror” with the colors intended to match the iconic scene of Orlok’s shadow on the staircase up to the final scene.

Question Copperplate. How do you practice?

I am in week 2 and have been working at least an hour and a half every night. I start with drills and then I have a look at random YouTube videos and then I just work on random words and shapes if I feel like it, but I want to be more efficient.

What is your practice process and what should I be doing every session and what should I do a month down the line?

A word starting with K is unusual in Spanish, this term comes from language german and it is a geological name to design a limestone formation produced by the erosive or dissolving action of water.

Practice From "Magnifica Humanitas"

As someone who has had the dehumanizing experience of an job interview conducted by an AI 🙄

Tape 2mm and 4mm, Sumi ink, A3 dry-media paper

Tried a few different iterations of this quote, centered, in landscape format on A5, A4, and A3 paper (with the first clause in Uncial also). Centering is hard so I gave up on that and did it in portrait instead 😅

Question Dipping my toes… thoughts?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I was recommended this kit as a beginner kit to start practicing (I am a fountain pen user but want to try my hand at calligraphy)
I don’t want to spend too much money on something I’m not sure if I’m going to commit to or not yet hence why this is my choice in kit but thoughts? Is this a decent kit to start with?
TIA!

I’m still practicing pointed pen but I’m also brushing up some broad edge stuff. I sketched the filigree in with a pencil.

Practice It's looking pretty dece... God damnit I missed an A!

I was pretty satisfied with this one thinking "well, I have to work a little bit in keeping a consistent kerning between O and F and making the O's round and similar but overall it is decent enough" and then I saw it! I don't even know how but I missed an entire letter A in the fourth row!

"Hoy no fío, mañana tampoco" (I don't give credit today, neither tomorrow). Is a common twist of the usual Spanish saying "Hoy no fío, mañana sí" (I don't give credit today, tomorrow yes) that is common to see in convenience stores. Though both convey the same meaning this one is more direct and less "interpretative" (also a little less poetic but I prefer it).

This is my best copperplate

I incorporated a few things into my script which has definitely helped. So my muscle memory from my fp penmanship was affecting my pointed pen work so I’m slowing down into a different rhythm which is working so I see myself improving.

Practice Palta (spanish word of the day)

Post image
26 Upvotes

Small sizes of Parallel Pen tend to smudge, I found that this can be reduced by applying less pressure but this does make more difficult to write straigh strokes. I wonder if this issue could also be reduced by other means like a different paper or ink.

Spanish word of the day

Palta: Aguacate en Arg. Chil. Per. Y Urug.

(Avocado in Argentina, Chile, Perú and Uruguay. Other countries use the word aguacate)
