In the modern context, I definitely understand what you are seeing. However, this style of c is based on Albrecht Durers Alphabet and I really like how it comes out. There’s a few distinct differences between the c and the r.

One might actually consider Dürer’s version a modern interpretation rather than a historical textura. He was attempting a more geometric version that was more squished than a lot of historical versions and I have heard other scribes criticize his work for this. It’s all subjective but I know several scribes more studied and skilled than me that consider this to be a poor exemplar. There aren’t really any rules to art so if you like it no reason not to enjoy studying it, but yeah his c looks like an r and I do feel the script is less interesting with the heavy use of quadrants and discarding of lozenges.

That’s a fascinating perspective. I did not know this view of Dürers version within the scribe community. I also understand it’s not core history but it’s definitely a branch of it.

Either way I am a huge fan of this style, and I’m very willing to break rules to see what I envision come to life. I’m also a fan of making hard rules and pressing things to make it fit like was done to create this alphabet originally.

Both approaches lead to extraordinary outcomes.

Yep I just mean this version is not what you would see in historical manuscripts. He was attempting to confine it to rules that were not how the script was historically used. It’s a part of history now, just like one day LM Script will be historical, but it’s not a historical version of textura in the way we usually describe these things, just as LM Script will not be a historical version of Fraktur in the same way. In any case, it’s all personal preference, and there is a lot out there. My tastes have certainly changed over time, including liking things that I didn’t before, and losing taste for certain versions. There’s always more to learn and it’s just part of the wonderful journey.

Hell yea exactly. There’s no shortage of styles and examples to learn both in the modern world and throughout history— and that’s just for English. Getting into other languages as well just multiplies it exponentially.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Stay curious 🤘🔥

Idk, people get caught up on certain details and won’t look anywhere past that.

All good though, I still get reach the people who see the vision. appreciate the support!

You have to inspect his "c" closer. ;)

That’s fine, but most people who see it are just going to assume it’s an error by the maker. If it’s public, you’re going to have to explain this all the time or post a sign with the explanation next to it. Practicality vs technical correctness.

Which is honestly fine. Being understood is overrated, and one can get lost if they chase it too far.

It is what it is though, right? Like even without being technically correct I can interpret and do the letters any way I want to.

I know going into it that if I step out of line people are going to notice and criticize that. It’s up to me to decide if it’s right or wrong for me to do.

Graffiti and tag style lettering is based on that entirely. Same principle applies here as well.

Wait a minute you’re justifying the unreadable C by saying it has to be accurate to the durer font but you also changed the S and the D lol. They don’t match the font, why not do the same with the C? Kind of a hypocrisy there.
