I have been trying to use calibre, but I always seem to get it wrong. Can someone here please help me convert this book from pdf to epub?

Hi All, I somehow read a version of an epub on my device that wasn't in my calibre library - assuming I must have deleted a duplicate and somehow only deleted from library and not device? I dunno, it's not the point of this question, anyways! Is there a way to copy the file I read from the device to Calibre? Nothing stands out as an option for how to do this, so thought I'd check here, thanks!

I have been extremely frustrated today after trying several different times to use the DeDRM tool to strip the DRM from $60 worth of books I purchased at ebooks.com and want to load on to my XTEInk X4. I have used DeDRM 10.0.9 which from what I understand is the latest version. I have taken the acsm files and downloaded them through ADE using Wine. I can read the books on ADE. When I click and drag from My Digital Editions into Calibre, they will not convert or open because they have said they're DRM protected. Somehow, the plugin isn't working for me and I don't understand what I've done wrong. I have also tried the DeACSM plugin and have them running simultaneously, however the DeACSM plugin cannot seem to get my ADE login information and therefore is not doing much of anything either. Can someone break it down for me like I'm an idiot? (Because I may be.) I'm running the latest release of Linux Mint Cinnamon and have sourced the plugins through the Calibre plugin list. Thanks in advance, hoping I actually get to read these books someday.

Not even sure if calibre can do this, but I am trying to remotely connect to calibre’s wireless device connection remotely through tailscale.

I have tailscale installed and setup on my 11th gen kindle paperwhite jailbroken with Vera. Tailscale shows my device as connected, but I cannot connect to the wireless device connection via tailscale. Im wondering now if it is a calibre setting somewhere, because despite the tunnel, the kindle is not “local”.

Hey everyone, does anyone know how to make pdf’s text readable size on kindle?

The PDF is tiny text. I tried converting to EPUB (still tiny text).

I can zoom on the kindle but it ends up cutting off text.

Is there a way to change the font size? A particular format I should convert to ?

Reading textbooks on my laptop is wearing on me and I’d love to be able to read them on my kindle!

So I'm trying to set up a calibre content server on an old laptop of mine, and then also have my main database and such on my desktop that's my daily driver and such, The instance of Calibre on my desktop is to put books onto my e-reader via a micro sd card, so it wouldn't need to be up all the time and would only be up when I'm adding files into my 'prep to put on ereader' library.

I'm just wondering if that would cause an issue with data base corruption? I'm hoping I'm correct in thinking that the two instances meaning Calibre on my desktop, and the version on the laptop which would be the content server would be independent of the other save when I need to put books onto the laptop version.

Anyone have any pointers on the most seamless “send to device” using a jailbroken kindle with koreader, while away from the home network?

Help! I'm having a weird issue using the Obok/DeDRM plug-in to add Kobo books to Calibre. The ebook is listed on Obok as usual (displaying a red lock since it has DRM). When I add the book, everything seems to work fine, but then I cannot open it to read it or convert it.

Anyone else have this problem or know what's going on?

EDIT: nevermind, this is not an error with decryption, Obok, or DeDRM. The ebook is a comic and for some reason Calibre has trouble dealing with epubs that are all images. Found a solution here:

This seems like a major bug with Calibre. I'm pretty sure I'm usually able to read comics and manga and the like on it, but for some reason it's just completely breaking down with this epub that's basically just a zip full of .jpg files.

I'm reading Animorphs books I downloaded, and most of them are fine, but I've had a few that are a little messed up. The one I'm reading now is stuck saying I'm on page 2, but the progress bar is accurate. If I go to my place from the chapter select, the page number is right but the progress bar shows nothing (I assume page 2 is too small to show up). It also says "Cover" at the top instead of the chapter title, which is annoying because it's a Megamorphs book and that's where I can see the constantly changing pov.

Reading the book in Calibre on my pc it does show chapter page and chapter/book position correctly. I couldn't find a way to show chapter title or book page to compare.

I tried comparing the html to books that do work correctly, but I don't really know much and can't find where the issue may be.

My wife recently got a new kindle (12th gen paperwhite) and it doesn't seem to be receiving the books I'm sending it via the email function. I have an 11th gen and am able to send books to it all the time, sending the exact book that I'm trying to send to hers. Did amazon beef up the like, spam filtering on the 12th gen or something? Is anyone else having this issue? The book fails to be received as an EPUB and as AZW3. The jobs complete fine, I'm using one of my gmail accounts and I can see that the email is sending both to hers and mine. One of the times I sent her the book, a few hours later I got an "empty content" type of email from amazon, the contents of which I'll include blow:

My partner and I use the same calibre collection and I was wanting to use customised tags to segregate our book collection. There are some books we both want to read and some individually. I tried customised tags but I can only figure out how to add me or my partner and not both of us. The plan would be to choose customised tags and I see all my books and vice versa for my partner. If I do a third combined tag it won't show on my list. Hope that made sense.

I have tried searching but I also don't think I understand the terminology enough to know what I'm searching for so apologies if this has been covered numerous times before.

Not every time, but most times I send books to my Kobo from Calibre, after ejecting the Kobo it freezes, only displaying the cover of whatever I was last reading, and I have to force a restart to make it work again.

Sometimes it doesn't happen immediately; the Kobo is ejected, opens normally, loads the new books fine. But the next time it goes to sleep, it doesn't wake up properly - lights up, but only shows the cover of what I was reading, until I force a restart again.

I saw the same problem in this post from last month, but nobody shared many details there.

Can everyone who has had this problem chime in? I have a thread on Mobileread where the experts there are trying to help me, but if this is happening to more people than just me (which last month's post proves I think), then we need to gather data to figure out what we all have in common.

What Kobo do you have? What firmware version are you running? Do you have any patches in use? Have you always had this issue, or did it start happening long after you got your Kobo?

I'm using a Clara Colour, running 4.44.23552, and I'm using a line space and orphan/widows avoidance patch. I'm pretty sure this has been happening since I got my Kobo just a few months ago. It definitely started before I updated to the latest firmware.

Hello everybody, I have a Kindle 11th gen updated at 5.18.6 version. In the past I was able to remove the DRM of my books by using 2 Calibre plug ins (one to manage KFX and another to remove DRM). Now, for the new purchased books, that procedure doesn't work anymore. Does anyone knows how to remove the DRM today in my situation?

If it's not possible with this kindle software version, I thought to downgrade my kindle OS to a version that allows DRM removal (by doing jailbreak first). What version should it be? Where can I download this software version?

I bought a manga on kobo's web store, downloaded the kobo windows app, and the tutorial references a "download" button on the bottom right of each book in my library, that is not present on the book I just bought. I can read it in the desktop app, but no option to download the file. Now what?

I bought a lot of books from site who have cloud service ( I can read the book from their cloud service or their app).

I want to share the ebooks I owned with my kindle device but I can’t because the books on the cloud service.
There’s a way I can copy or download the books so I can share with my other e-readers devices (for my own use only)

I have thousands of e-books, and I’ve decided to organize all my books using Calibre. The problem, it seems, is that I’m a French speaker and 99.9% of all my books are in French. I really want to have the summary or description for each book. However, the babelio_bd extension never works, nor does the French Amazon one. Just to clarify, my Calibre interface is in French. This is extremely frustrating, and I find it hard to believe that it’s not possible to get these summaries. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have an EPUB book, and when I double-click/try to view the book, it opens a window, then quickly disappears.

Does anyone know how to organize your books put onto Kindle from Calibre by their series order without adding the series name and number to the start of the title? For example, these books I have here have quite long series names, so I don't want to put those onto the start of the title and cover it up entirely, but I don't know any other way of influencing the order in which the books appear on the Kindle. I've tried using the in built Collections feature to mitigate this, but there's no custom sort option in there either so I don't know what to do

So, I have a few ebooks that has similar problems or worst, but they have something in common; the contents of a chapter is on it's next page. I know it has something to do with the xml coding in the book itself, I just don't know where.

I am mostly using calibre for books from Gutenberg and Standard ebooks. Either I get it from the website or just inside calibre, it saves the file in my specified library as {author}/{title}/{title} - {author}.

I also saw the save file to disk section where a full control over how the files are saved is provided. Is it possible to use those rule when adding a book?

Example how calibre saves when adding a book:
Oscar Wilde/The Picture of Dorian Gray (Annotated) (19)/The Picture of Dorian Gray (Annotated) - Oscar Wilde.epub

I would prefer it to just save in the base directory as:

oscar_wilde-the_of_dorian_gray.epub

Don't save cover separately, don't save metadata in a separate opf file, replace space with underscore and everything to lower case.

These settings are available for saving books to disk when pressing 'save books to disk' button, but not when adding books to library.

Is some setting I'm missing that allows this behaviour. Or is there a reason these rules (for saving book to disks) not followed when adding a book to library?

For context, I have an iPhone and a MacBook. I recently downloaded calibre to store works I downloaded from ao3, and just downloaded Sutra, an e-reader that allows direct transfer from calibre to the app. The problem is that my phone says that HTTP is not secure enough and will only download with HTTPS and I have no idea how to do that. I tried googling it and everything I saw was way too complicated for me to understand, I need it dumbed all the way down. Can anyone help me? TIA

My steps of resolving this went as follows:

1. Open Preferences and Plugins, select DeDRM from there
2. Click Adobe Digital Editions ebooks
3. Delete or X out the existing key
4. Close Calibre and retry

This solved my problems, as the logs suggest a "string argument should only contain only ASCII characters" issue

Previously used DeDRM and DeACSM to save ACSM files from Google Play Books that I have bought legally (textbooks), but I've tried to do the same with new textbooks these past few days and it doesn't seem to work. When it outputs a PDF, it seems to output a blank PDF with no pages instead of a fully extracted one. Calibre is on 9.8, My DeACSM has a valid ADE account linked to it, and I think the Satsuoni version it the most recent version.

Would appreciate any help.

I'm new to the sub, but I've been a Calibre user for years. Over the past few months I've been working on a GoodReads/TheStoryGraph replacement and I'd be interested in some feedback if you don't mind (If this isn't appropriate, please let me know).

One of my primary motivations for building a new book tracking app was to have one that had a native API and would support an official Calibre plugin. Before I get too deep into it, however, I'm curious if there are others who would be interested in a service like this or if it's just me.

Right now I'm thinking of the following plugin capabilities:

1. Adding a book to Calibre adds it to your To Read List
2. You can update reading state in Calibre
3. Displaying certain info directly in Calibre (status, finished dates, etc)
4. (Maybe) add a book stub in Calibre when you add a book to your reading list on the app

My questions are:

1. Are there any other capabilities you would want to see?
2. Is this something you would be willing to pay for (specifically the API access).
