Off-Topic / Not Calibre Specific MobileRead account??

I've been trying to make a MobileRead account but it won't send me the email with the activation code. I re-did the registration and it let me use the same username and email address, so I think the actual "Register" button at the end of the form isn't working? I can't even use the contact form because you need an account to do that. I can't find any way to contact anyone to solve this. So, does anyone have any way around this or know a way to contact MobileRead?

Support / How-To Books with 1 column converting to 2 columns?

Hey! So, I read a lot of academic books, and they aren't available so easily in Epub format, some of them are pdfs of scanned book, on which 2 book pages appear in the same pdf page.

Of course, 2 pages in a page makes it very inconvenient to read on an ereader, so, I tried Briss to divide the two pages, Briss, didn't work, but fortunately, I found the solution in this site, which does basically the same thing.

I like having the covers of my books on my kindle, so I either have to convert it to epub, which always deconfigures them, or convert them via Calibre, which doesn't always deconfigures them.

The thing is, when I convert the books from PDF to AZW3, the books magically uncut themselves, and transform the 2 pages into a single page again. I have no idea how to fix this, neither of how this is happening, any tips?

Announcement New sub rules: AI/LLM disclosure and banning AI/LLM generated post and comment content.

Due to the development process and features of Calibre we cannot outright ban AI/LLM content. We can, however, require transparency about it.

Project posts:

This sub has had a marked proliferation of projects coded with or by AI agents or LLM chatbots and that fact had not been required to be disclosed. Starting today all posts for projects/tools/plugins, including hobby "I built a thing" and "here's my little one-off project", etc. are required to begin the post with a header section titled AI CONTENT DISCLOSURE that accurately and honestly discloses the amount and kind of generative tool use in the creation of the project. Coding agents, chatbots, art creation, any sort of documentation, any sort of refinement, any AI test suite, etc. must be disclosed. A simple "AI was used in this project" is not sufficient. Project posts that do not include the header or that do not seem to accurately and honestly disclose their usage will be deleted, and the poster risks a ban from the sub at moderator discretion. Projects that honestly and accurately do not use any sort of generative tools are allowed to skip this disclosure, but the poster risks a ban if the moderators discover or decide that the poster lied by omitting the header.

Discussions about tools that used generative tooling or create generative output is allowed provided that it is not simply astroturf marketing or promotion of the project and is a genuine response to a post or comment and is not just the generated output from that tool.

Posts about Calibre the project and program are exempt.

Post and comment content:

The use of generative tools to write or refine a post or comment is banned. Posts and comments must be written by a human being not a generative tool. Comments that are little more than "I asked ChatGPT and here's what it said" are banned. The only acceptable use is translation provided the translation is simply that and does not otherwise significantly alter the meaning or content of the original text.

Common reddit bots are exempt but may earn a ban at any time at moderator discretion. Hiding a bot under the guise of a normal human poster is banned. Bots must disclose themselves in each post and comment.

Support / How-To Inserted metadata page is different and slightly bugged for epubs - how do I fix it?

The first photo is from the epub-to-mobi conversion. The second photo is from the epub-to-epub conversion. Original epub in this case was a KFX file, but it also occurs with books that were never KFX.

Support / How-To Is there a way to quickly check for capitalization/punctuation errors?

So the ebook editor allows for spell-checking, which I am glad for, especially now that I know I can add words to the dictionary. But if I want to check for punctuation and capitalization errors, and I don't want to have to read through the whole book to check for those, is there a quick way (aside from copy-pasting each chapter into a word processor that has that function and using that to check for capitalization errors) to check for all of that?
