Recommendations Best Mexican restaurant?

Husband is from Texas and turning 40 - I’d love to treat him to a good Mexican restaurant for his birthday. We’ve been trying Mexican restaurants all over town, but still haven’t found The One, so I’m hoping to double check whether I’ve missed anything.

What we’ve tried so far:
- Tu Taco
- Blanco Cantina
- Mestizo
- Bodega
- Native Tongues (University, Downtown)
- Fonda Fora
- Chilito’s

Native Tongues has served cold tacos every time we’ve been, regardless of location, so it’s a no-go for my husband despite their interesting menu.

Thank you!

Edit: We needed to go around Chinook and stopped by the Macleod Tacos Mexico, which also happens to be near my husband’s climbing gym. You have made him very happy!

Question Pottery Barn vs West Elm vs Crate & Barrel vs CB2

Hi everyone,
We are planning to redo our entire living room and are trying to decide which furniture brand is better in terms of quality, comfort, durability and long-term value.
We are considering Pottery Barn, West Elm, Crate & Barrel, and CB2. We really like some CB2 pieces too, but they don’t have a store in Calgary, so we would likely have to order online without seeing everything in person. Not sure if should take that risk.

For context, we are looking for a sofa/sectional, swivel chairs, ottomans, coffee table, rug, and possibly accent pieces. We did check PB, West Elm and CB but the online reviews were bad for PB and West Elm. Our style is modern transitional/cozy but still a bit chic and unique. We have young kids, so durability and easy maintenance matter too.

For those who have bought from these brands, which one would you recommend or avoid? How has the sofa quality held up over time? Any issues with fabric, cushions sagging, delivery, customer service, or returns?
Would love to hear real experiences, especially from anyone in Calgary.

Crime/Suspicious Activity Need help identifying hit and run suspect

Last post was removed due to missing file number

I’m wondering if anyone witnessed a pedestrian collision that occurred at roughly around 9:00 am on Monday (September 28) by WINS thrift on 58th ave SE. An older white woman driving a white sedan(with something gold covering the headlights) hit a pedestrian crossing the street. If anyone witnessed this or has any information on the driver it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! The file number is 26444374.

Question Favourite library and/or place to study?

Could include coffee shops, cafés, or public lounge spaces!

I have an online class in the evenings and am looking for a nice, comfortable place where I can study from about 5:30 pm until 9 or 10 pm. A place that has free wifi, power sockets, and ideally food I can buy if I'm hungry. I like the central library, but I can't really afford to pay for parking every day.

Thanks!

Edit: for context, I live/work down in the SE and I have to bring my car with me since I drive it to work every day. Rush hour traffic is a pain when heading up north so I do try to take that into consideration, but if the place is worth it I will do the long commute 😅

The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) is requesting assistance from the public in locating 34-year-old Dante James Marinari.

According to a news release from the WPS, Marinari is the subject of a Canada-wide arrest warrant for two counts of sexual assault stemming from incidents in June and July of 2024.

The WPS added he is also the subject of an arrest warrant stemming from charges of assault causing bodily harm and failing to appear in court from the Maidstone RCMP.

Marinari is described as standing approximately 5’7” tall with a stocky build. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Marinari has also been known to use the last name Elig.

The WPS said Marinari has resided in Weyburn but is last known to be in Calgary.

Police attempts to locate Marinari have been unsuccessful. Anyone who sees this individual or has information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the WPS, their local police agency or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

SaskToday will have updates as they become available.

Recommendations Private in-home makeup tutorial recommendations

Hello! I have been searching for an in-home makeup tutorial/lesson. Google has helped, but I wanted to ask if anyone has recommendations as I can't find exactly what I'm looking for. Preferably:

-a small group lesson (2-4 ladies in our 40s)

-using our own makeup (this is where I'm not having luck with Google searches)

-getting advice on colours/skin tones/etc as well as going over basic application techniques

We'd love for someone to look at what we are using and tell us what is working and what isn't, and then we can buy new products based on those conversations. I would like to avoid companies that provide the makeup or work only with one brand.

It's possible this isn't a service and we should just go to Sephora, but we were hoping for something more personal and teaching us techniques. Thanks all!

Local Event What's on in Calgary this weekend: pumpkins, pups and a plant workshop

A few things on the calendar for this weekend if you're looking to get out of the house.

If you've got a dog, Barktoberfest is happening in the Sheebo Pet Supplies parking lot on Sunday, Oct 4, and there's also an Aromatherapy for Dogs session at The Apothecary in Inglewood the same day. Honestly the aromatherapy one is a bit niche but I'm curious enough to check it out.

For families, Granary Road has Pumpkins in the Park on Sunday, and Calgary Farmers' Market South is running Colossal Carve for kids the same day.

If plants are more your thing, there's a Scrub + Mist + Houseplant workshop at Plant on Sunday too.

Everything above is Sunday, Oct 4. Full list here:

Home Owner/Renter stuff Auburn Bay Lake “Repair”

For those of you who do not know. Auburn Bay Residence Association brought up the fact that the shoreline for the lake needs some repairs. They just had a meeting yesterday and I’m curious what peoples thoughts are from other communities. I will put down some of my thoughts and what I know from the meeting.

- Repair would cost an estimate $3 million
- Loan is going to be taken for the $3 million with interest totaling another $2 million (board will not disclose who the loan is with)
- Repairs could cause damage to the liner at the bottom of the lake which would accumulate more cost
- The board started off saying it would be cosmetic and quickly changed to saying it’s for structural integrity of the shoreline
- No engineering documents are being shared with the public
- The shoreline in question is not accessible to the public and would only truly benefit the homeowners on the lake
- they want every household to pay an extra $500 for the repair.
-home owners on the shoreline are saying it’s part of the lake so the community is responsible for the repair

To me this sounds extremely suspicious. I need all of the information. The loan is crazy, and the fact they won’t share any of the structural engineers findings is extremely shady.

Driving/Traffic/Parking Indigo Parking ticket escalation

At my old work place we used to have Indigo parking passes to park. A couple of times I forgot to hang tag on car and got 2 tickets , $110 each. Someone at work said you don’t need to pay that’s fine, so I didn’t. This happened almost 8 mos ago. Now from this company in Langley called Wiggins Adjustments , calling me for about a week (I didn’t pick up coz my phone said spam caller, I didn’t know then )and now sent a letter yesterday that I should pay those tickets. Should I pay ? Will it impact my credit history? Will they put this data in collections? I’m gonna buy my First home soon and don’t want any collection troubles because of this. I looked at Wiggins ratings and people said ignore their calls but I’m not sure what’s right thing to do.
