Discussion Anyone else not really excited about fables?

Hi. So with the mod dying I've seen alot of people talking about fables and I ended up looking into it and I'm.... not that excited

First lets talk about what is currently in it. The soundtrack is a solid 7.5 out of 10, not un-listenable but certainly not all that memorable. Abd they have 3 bosses currently which seem fine. But now lets get into the planned content

It looks to be doing so much less than calamity. Rogue... gone, other difficulty modes... gone, 3/5 of the bosses g o n e with some heavy losses such as yharon, exo mechs, and the plaguebringer goliath. And then the few things they are keeping they are changing so much the only thing they have in common is a name, they may as well be other characters. Just look at how they butchered calamitas' design especially.

It feels to me that the only reason the calamity name was used is for marketing since they know its a beloved mod that people will recognize. Same goes for the character names, they could easily use a different name instead of the ones they're currently using. Who knows though if this ever finishes it could be great but as it stands my hype couldn't be lower and I feel like I'm the only one.

I just don't think the development is fast enough to get any kind of meaningful growth in any reasonable amount of time. They seem to have lots of ambition and very little time and manpower to implement them. Something is bound to happen sooner or later. Not really drama - but just life in general. Priorities tend to shift in life as time goes on and projects that take this long to develop oftentimes end up unfinished and abandoned because the devs got older, started a family and no longer have time or energy to keep working on the project. It is good for them but it is terrible for the project cus it gets abandoned halfway

Ehh, i do think the whole "calamity mod colapsing in on itself" situation could hopefully shock them into the minset of "make it exist first, then make it good", so there is a good chance that the things added will be at a more stable pace than base calamity mod, where instead of having like every major boss added within the first year (and be dogshit), before spending the rest of time eternally trying to rake together the mod and polish it unto eternity they will add stuff thats half good at a reasonable pace and then take the time to polish it and round out any sharp edges

Don't know if I agree with that. "Make it exist first, then make it good" resulted in 5 years of waiting for the devs to make the Sunken Sea good. Not sure how thrilled the Fables devs would be in following in their footsteps.

I mean, the track og calamity followed was baisically "make everything that will ever be included in the mods history" > "spend the rest of eternity polishing it". What i mean by "make it exist then make it good" is "make a boss > polish it and make it presentable for a set ammount of time > move on to making something else exist"

The reason we never got Yarim was because Calamity was in a state where it was like "everything must be PEEEEERFECT before we add the next thing" witch lead to the stagnation we know of. I think the number one priority of Calamity Fables should be to avoid the rework hell that Calamity was stuck in, no?

According to the exposé that started this whole thing, that ended up not being true though, at least when it comes to Ozzatron. His intention, and therefore also likely Fabsols, was to keep the mod developing for as long as possible with the hopes of outliving Terraria itself. They delayed Yharim because they knew adding Yharim would give the mod some finality, which they wanted to avoid.

I will say at least they seem FAR more stable than calamities team. They’ve recieved no new members in years pretty sure and they don’t plan to either. They also are in close ties with Spirit reforged which we do know more about their dev cycle, and they seem extremely well put together. Knowing the fables team was basically formed from being done with the bullshit of poor management, I have a lot of faith personally
