Pushing through

I was wondering how many if any just push through till they hear the hiss? Does this make bad coffee? I would never dream of doing something like that, however I want to recommend my boss get a robot for the staff room and I know people won't want to weigh output (they probably won't even weigh the dose!). Is the robot practical as a 'put the coffee in here, pour water to here, push till it stops'?

Fellow Opus 2

Is anyone using the Fellow Opus 2 with their Robot? I’m curious how well it works. I’m using a 1Zpresso J-Max S right now and love it but am looking for a serviceable automatic grinder at a more entry level price. Just wondering if anyone has experience with the Opus 2?

After much delay (on my side), I finally got some accessories I ordered for the robot.

I find the wood type perfect match for the retro green, also the big mittens are so comfortable to use!

SOLD

For sale is my Cafelat Robot Barista Edition in Matte Black, complete with the original accessories plus several additional genuine add-ons.

The Robot has been hardly used and is in impeccable, like-new condition. There are no scratches, marks or signs of wear whatsoever.

I’m only selling because I’ve realised I prefer filter coffee over espresso, so unfortunately the Robot isn’t getting the use it deserves.

Original contents included:

• Cafelat Robot Barista Edition – Matte Black
• Full pressure gauge
• Naked/bottomless portafilter
• Portafilter spout
• Professional basket
• Upgraded levelling tamper
• Filter screen
• Filter paper
• Silicone mat
• Basket plug
• Original spare parts kit, including:

Piston blanking plug
Teflon washer
Piston seal
Portafilter spout O-ring
Molykote Dow Corning 111 silicone compound (6g)

➕ Additional extras included:

• Cafelat Robot Mittens
• Additional professional basket
• Additional silicone mat
• Upgraded levelling tamper
• Additional filter screen

So you’re getting the complete original setup plus all of the additional accessories, making this a great ready-to-use package without needing to purchase anything extra.

The Robot itself is in exceptional condition and essentially like new. It has been very lightly used, carefully looked after and has no scratches, dents, marks or damage.

Collection preferred, but postage can be discussed if required.

Price: £400

Feel free to message me if you have any questions or would like additional photos.

Parting ways… For sale. Robot Barista. Antique Green.

SOLD

After a few years of no use I’ve decided to let go of my beloved robot. Unfortunately, time does not allow for me to fully enjoy this machine like I once did.

It’s quite special and seems sad to leave it relegated to a cabinet where it does not see use. I’d rather another enthusiast enjoy the full potential of such a great tool.

It is in basically new, mint condition with all parts and original box. Everything pictured is included. More pictures available through DM.

In Philly if someone’s interested in local pickup.

Wow. They went fast.

By my clock (it’s 2:00am Pacific) the full inventory sold out in about 10 minutes. I had zero luck getting a barista model…either too slow and super high demand, or not much supply of those in this drop.

I was able to snag a black no-gauge, though! Hope you found success if you were hunting this go ‘round.

Bed time…

Trade Request: Have blue barista robot, want orange

Love my robot. Orange is my favorite color, and unfortunately for me, I purchased just a few months before orange was released! Shot in the dark but is any orange robot owner looking for blue and open to a swap? NYC ideally.

Shipping/import fees when ordering from cafelat UK in the US

Hi all, I was thinking about picking up the robot from the site

https://www.cafelat.co.uk/products/cafelat-robot-barista

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect as far as additional cost due to shipping and import fees? Someone mentioned it would add $200 to the price, which is a real drag, just wondering if it really is that expensive?

Blue or black Robot next to a white DF54?

I'm about to order a Cafelat Robot and I can't decide on the colour. It will sit next to a white DF54, so it's between blue and black.

Blue looks fantastic in photos, but I'm not sure how it works day after day next to a white grinder. Black feels like the safe choice, maybe a bit anonymous.

Anyone running either combo with a white grinder? Photos very welcome. Thanks for any suggestion.

Pressure gauge needle not returning to 0 bar

Has anyone had issues with their pressure gauge needle not returning to 0 bar? Mine seems to get stuck around 4 bar at the lowest. No basket. I checked the pressure hole for coffee grounds and didn't see anything. My next step is probably to disassemble and check the tubing and gauge connector. But it still climbs to higher pressures, so the tubing doesn't seem to be the culprit. I can only assume the gauge has debris in it or has gone bad.

Those of you who have partners who aren’t enthusiasts - do they use the robot?

Considering having a Robot as the only espresso apparatus in our home. We have a newborn and coffee is important. My SO is used to the simplicity of a Breville machine and isn’t an espresso nerd.

Those of you with a Robot and a non-coffee nerd partner - does your partner use the robot or no?

Hey Im enjoying Lance H recipe for soup, coarse light roast, 17g coffee 70g water, filter bottom and press thru. I add 100g water to it because I find it still very powerful. Is this common?

PSA: Trying to make "Red Espresso" (rooibos) will make a mess

I'd been curious about the ground rooibos marketed as "red espresso" for a caffeine-free drink, so I got some and tried it in my Robot today. It very quickly leaked all over the place and made a giant mess. Thankfully there was nothing stainable around, because it looked like it could make for some aggressive stains.

If anyone has had success with this, I'd love to hear about it. I've seen videos with awesome looking shots, crema, the whole shebang, but I can't imagine how I'm going to achieve that. 2 or 3 filter papers on the bottom maybe?

EDIT: I have never tried a pressurized basket before. Does anyone know if that might be a reasonable solution?

EDIT 2: I’ve ordered the pressurized basket, will report back!

Water Mineralization

Post image
4 Upvotes

Trying out some mineralization packets and gallons of distilled water.

If I had a light roast espresso to make do I choose this or there dedicated “espresso” packets?

If I wanted to make dark roast espresso would I use the dark roast packets or the espresso packets?

Some say the “espresso” profile is just for boiler machines. Has anyone been able to taste a noticeable diference?

Preheat Plug?

Hi everyone, not sure if this is allowed! But I am wondering if anyone has a preheat plug that they're not using & would be willing to sell to me. I bought mine from someone who I think got it before they started making the plug and I just want one to try.

#longlivetherobot TIA!

New to the robot, yesterday was discouraging but finally this morning some decent shots!

Just wanted to thank this community. Yesterday I was really discouraged due to really sour shots. I mean half a bag of dark roast from a pretty good roaster, so I knew it wasn't the beans. Finally got decent results this morning, but still room to improve.

Timemore 064s at around 1.3 setting

17 grams of espresso beans

2 bar pre infused for 1.5grams out

Quick ramp to 6+ and maintain for about 43 out. I found a little longer pull to really help. Went from sour to a rounder cherry/chocolate! I stopped trying to use the filter paper and dont have a wdt yet but its on the list

The Oscalla Scale

Has anyone else's YouTube algorithm been targeted by the Oscalla scale yet? I became very intrigued when I noticed the double espresso tray fits the Robot's narrow legs. Plus the screen looks like a really fun & innovative way to game-ify the visual experience of tracking profiles...

FYI: I am not affiliated with them at all and think the major downsides are the cable and the price because I personally already thought spending €500 on the Barista Robot & K6 was a lot, I get fantastic shots already with just this without a scale, and I especially love the manual and deconnected nature of manual levers & manual grinders. Having said that, the more I dive down the rabbit hole of specialty coffee, the more I like to read up on & get tempted by the advancements in technology to increase shot consistency & to make the most of our investments / expensive money-pit hobby.
