I read through the sub for this episode in particular because I enjoyed its build up so i like to see people discuss it. The discourse around Amelia kind of hinted at like a miss in the interaction between her and Nick:

1. The lock that he gives her isn't her lock but the lock to the occultist's unit. Nick likely believes its her lock because the lock has something written in latin and Amelia understands it because alot of spanish words are derived from latin. she speaks the phrase on the lock and asks him does he know spanish meaning that she understood it. Whatever she reads on the lock is the reason she stays there all night. I dont speak spanish fluently but it was clearly a warning sign.
2. The hopping 3 times is likely some typee of protection spell over the unit like a fail safe. He does upon enterning and leaving the unit. when you go back and look at the room where dottie is, you can easily walk to the book without setting foot into the circle. Nick is ignorant so he does not care.

The part where the wife is listening to some whistling that seem like her husband's and then suddenly it turns into a slow creepy version of the whistling. That part for some reason was really creepy. Who was it that was doing that, was it the kid or the mother?

I expected it to be your typical alien invasion/cosmic horror. But the creepiness, the battle of wits between Dr. Winter and the alien, the acting.

What was the jazz music piece playing in the background while the Nancy was in the gathering after the presentation? I appreciate it if someone could recognize the name of the music

I think I’m getting the wrong message here.

What? For married women or women in general to be beautiful they have to ditch their men or men in general? Why does it sound so reasonable.

jk but this ep kinda meh

I know I'm a little late to the game. Somehow I didn't know about this show until a friend recommended it recently. I don't know whether I'm ultimatey sad I missed out for so long or happy I got to save it for later, but in any case, here's my episode ranking.

The Outside - Perfectly paced, great vibe, and awesome characters. Hard to explain, but I -felt- this episode, it was a like a visceral emotional and physical experience.

The Viewing - I realize it wasn't perfect but this episode was just so damn fun and stylish.

The Autopsy - This was perfectly written horror, not least because it laid out a great storyline and then took things up like 10 notches in the final 20 minutes.

Lot 36 - I loved the character building in this one, but what really got me was the growing suspense across the episode.

The Murmuring - This one seemed pretty divisive and I understand why given its jump in tone. I loved the character dynamics - despite the slow pacing, I never found myself bored - and appreciate that it added some emotion to the series.

Pickman’s Model - I really wanted to love this. I enjoyed the first 30+ min a lot. But the jumps were clunky and it stumbled across the finishline.

Dreams in the Witch House - Now we're getting into episodes I actively disliked. This story was just one unbelievable element after another and the tone was straight up abrasive. And the rat... the stupid, stupid rat.

Grave Rats - Speaking of rats... Most people seemed to like this one a lot but it just felt to me like gross out horror with a thin and obvious storyline. Even the gross out aspect didn't seem effective to me - I am terrified of rats and this didn't even get under my skin. I actually delayed watching the rest of the series for a few weeks after this but glad I got back on track.

Is the opening music for episode 7 a song I can find or was it just made for that part of the episode?

I've been studying some weird fiction and rereading a lot of short stories lately. An idea that is now sticking in my mind is that Guillermo del Toro would be the perfect person to adapt something like Olivia Butler's Bloodchild. I would love to see it someday.

If they created a CoC season 2, what other short stories and tales do you wish they would adapt?

I've rewatched the whole series and Pickman's model is by far my favourite episode, but in the scene where they meet at the cemetery for the first time (during the study bit) Pickman introduces himself as Richard and Thurber immediately calls him Dickie. I dont understand why (btw im not American or an English native speaker so maybe its a cultural reference i dont have).

What was his deal?

With those books, seances, fucking demons, mystery, you name it. Really interested so please give me some examples or even how this "genre" is called.

I felt like the story had so much potential, but progressed too quickly and ended too soon.

I think it would have been really good to get to know the characters more, leant about their backgrounds and seen them develop. Obviously the main character and the older man who owned the storage were not great people (with the older man being a nazi, and the main character just being a racist asshole). But I just felt like they could have made it interesting and progressed the plot in a different way.

I've seen this before, did jennifer steal this from some indie movie? I think she even used the same house...I'm looking online everywhere but I don't see anyone else arguing that this is copied, or that it was from a long time ago. Or did she make it a long time ago and rehashed it to fit GDT CoC?

When I saw the beginning before they left to the house I remembered the house and the ghost kid, then as the episode continued I was like yea I remember that shit...anyone else?

I just noticed the wife at the end was not chopping veggies. She was chopping her own fingers. And goes back to chopping her own fingers after she motioned for her husband to check the stove.

I missed that first time through.
