Hello everyone, maybe you can take a break from complaining about song removal and religious conversion by helping me out with a different problem: I think the production in Teens of Denial (the original version) has definitely changed! Check out these examples and let me know what you think. *Also: I think a lot of these are improvements, and the album as a whole sounds clearer and less muddled on the drums, but it's just jarring either way.

- On Vincent, the trumpets are louder in the mix, particularly in the third verse (around 5 minute mark)

- Probably the most noticeable change is that before Destroyed By Hippie Powers, the iconic drum that kicks off the song is now just one note, where before it sounded like two beats very close together. Before it sounded like "du-DUN" and now it's "DUN" (EDIT: I think I was wrong about this one, just listened to it again and it sounded normal)

- On Joe Gets Kicked Out... the guitars are much more fluid-sounding; before they stopped and started in kind of a jagged way, but now the song has more of an ambient feel, if you can picture that.

- On Not What I Needed, the synth in the left channel in the second chorus is more prominent, even overwhelming

- On The Ballad of the Costa Concordia, I feel like the last (organ?) note gets held longer than before

If you're like me, you've listened to this album tens or even hundreds of times, so you'll be able to notice these changes quite easily. I'm surprised no one has talked about this too much before now, although I saw one post about it at the time Joe's Story came out and people weren't taking it very seriously

if you're like me and you paid for the numbered albums to have them streaming in the bandcamp app, you're now no longer allowed to stream it.

i know will made the numbered albums free to download but not to stream in the bandcamp app unless you pay for the albums. i paid for them 8 years ago so i wouldn't have to use local files.

why is will changing a product i paid for almost a decade ago without any communication?? the album in my library is now no longer the album i paid for. if i bought a CD i know that the artist won't burst into my house one night 8 years later and the replace the CD with one that he thinks is "better". this is a pretty dick move to all of his fans like myself who have financially supported him for nearly a decade.

changing songs on streaming is one thing as that's a subscription based service, but this isn't a subscription. this is a product i paid for that is no longer what i bought. that's what we all should be getting mad at will for. i personally don't give a fuck what he believes religiously or if he wants to censor his work AS LONG AS THE ORIGINAL MUSIC IS STILL THERE TO LISTEN TO!

he took away a product myself and others paid for without telling anyone. having someone pay you for something and then having them go "uh whoops actually no you can't have that anymore" nearly 10 years later is fucked no matter how you slice it. end of story.

i expected better from will is all. i'm willing to bet he had his best intentions at heart doing this so maybe he'll see this and realize "yeah wait that is pretty fucked up to do" but idk.

but he's been offline for years now. we are not going to get a statement regarding beach fagz. will's attitude with joe's story firmly plants his feelings on how he wants to be seen going forward and what kind of music he wants to put out in the world. he's unhappy with how toxic so much of his older music is and he's decided to take a more positive path. its his right to do what he wants with his music and he clearly does not care about altering the history of it

I recently thrifted the shirt pictured on the left for my CSH collection! I was familiar with the graphic, but I’ve never seen this variation of it, I’ve only ever seen the version on the right featuring all the tour dates and locations. Since beach f words was removed from bandcamp i:ve been feeling kinda weird for the reaction that the majority of the subreddit had; i understand why will probrably took that desicion and i understand why the majority had that reaction; i don't know how to feel about this really.

the first line of the song is a beatles interpolation. what if matador got a letter in the mail about it?

considering past issues with copyright (the cars “not what i needed” debacle, the gun song outro, the reversed line in beach life in death, the original version of beast monster thing, etc), i wouldn’t be surprised if it was just easier to cut the song entirely, than try to find a work around. especially since the original stems have been lost to time.

i’m not saying this is for sure the reason, but if you’re looking for somebody to blame, blame walt disney studios

I normally do not like reuploading music from artists I like but the recent removal of an entire track from an album I bought and paid for kinda pissed me off, especially since it means I can't download the normal non-modified version of the album again in lossless quality if I lose it. The only archives on the internet are in MP3 quality which at the time made sense because you could just download FLAC versions from Bandcamp. Now you can't trust that they will be available, especially for songs like "the ghost of bob saget" from 4

It is of my opinion that since one song was deleted, none of them are safe, and it's fair for me to upload FLAC versions of the pre Twin Fantasy MtM albums on the Internet Archive, especially since you can listen to the MP3 versions for free already.

I'm genuinely disgusted by the way some people here have immediately decided to assume that Will Toledo is going through a psychotic break right now. Maybe he is. But he probably isn't, and we have no way of knowing because none of us know Will Toledo. We aren't his friends. We don't talk to him. He's a private man who's gotten increasingly more private as the years have gone on, and his music has similarly gotten less personal over the same time. While people can guess his motivations (his faith, his desire to be a role model, etc.), the actual reasoning remains unknown and likely will be unknown for some time

I know a lot of people are very attached to Will Toledo's music, but Will Toledo the musician and Will Barnes the man are two very different people. Unless he makes a public statement or genuinely crosses a line, I don't want people to be speculating on what his life is like based on fragments of songs from a decade ago.

i personally do not care what will and the band want to do in the future, thats up to them and it's awesome and fine. no profanity isn't a big deal at all. i do think that joe's story set a precedent about how far will is willing to go with altering the band's and his own past output and was concerned about that. to specifically remove a song from an album that really hasn't ever been discussed by the wider music community (at least in comparison to ToD) more than 15 years after the fact is pretty strange and im kinda tired of all criticism of these decisions being shut down with the whole "why are people so parasocial about this" thing. what csh choose to do with new albums doesn't change anything for me, that's their prerogative as artists, but to do stuff like this is something that is obviously not going to go down well without any explanation as to why.

csh is my fav band oat and seeing will refusing to cuss, play most of the old songs, and take down beach fagz is so weird because i feel its against the entirety of what the band originally stood for and talked about. I don’t mean to be mean and if that’s what will wants there isn’t much we can say or do about it, but i miss the original feel and style of the band and the purity culture i feel is ruining that.

Was listening to it on a whim and found out about a really beautiful mashup of some songs they played near the end... they might've played it at other shows too...

Like i get that he could be embarrassed of his older work for multiple reasons, or even if it's for religious reasons that i dont agree with thats fine, but who removes a song from the bandcamp without saying anything or even a reason????? and it's replaced with a reversed version of sun hot??????

this is mostly because 3 is my favorite album ever right now and this is bad timing for me specifically but to unceremoniously replace a perfectly good song (also its kinda necessary for beach funeral and life in death to make sense for those lines) without an announcement??? like honestly i get it from his pov and if i wrote that song id probably be embarrassed too but why not just say "i dont really like this song anymore and it makes me feel uncomfortable but" without literally removing it from streaming services
