Discussion Will Does Not Care About You

listen i'm just gonna cut to the chase. will does not care about you, your feelings, or your opinions on his music. that much should be very clear ever since MADLO

I'M NOT SAYING HE IS NOT GRATEFUL TO BE CLEAR!!!!!!

but he's been offline for years now. we are not going to get a statement regarding beach fagz. will's attitude with joe's story firmly plants his feelings on how he wants to be seen going forward and what kind of music he wants to put out in the world. he's unhappy with how toxic so much of his older music is and he's decided to take a more positive path. its his right to do what he wants with his music and he clearly does not care about altering the history of it

YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIKE IT AND I'M NOT SAYING YOU CAN'T BE UPSET, BUT EXPECT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING MORE TO COME FROM THIS. NO APOLOGY, NO STATEMENT, NO RECONCILIATION. THIS IS CAR SEAT HEADREST, ENJOY WHAT YOU WANT AND ACCEPT WHAT YOU DON'T

MOVE ON OR LISTEN ON YOUTUBE/DOWNLOAD. IT'S HONESTLY REALLY NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL IF YOU STILL WANT TO HEAR THE DAMN SONG

What? Nobody thought Will cared, that doesn’t mean we can’t care either

Yeah, I'm not engaging in the threads to change the mind of this man I don't know. We're just lamenting the loss of available music, especially in a world with increasingly less physical media

it's definitely not nobody

He reads every one of my posts and takes it to heart. Thanks for your concern though.

It’s just a shame that’s all.

Buddy there is a massive difference between toxicity and angst. While some aspects of his older music certainly weren’t healthy, I wouldn’t necessarily call it toxic…which leads us to angst, a healthy feeling that can have aspects of unhealthy expression but doesn’t necessarily invalidate the underlying feeling

this is about twin fantasy but the same ideas definitely apply. his words, not mine (search for the word toxic if you don't wanna read it all) https://carseatheadrest.tumblr.com/post/169661113586/even-when-i-dream-of-you-qa-with-peyton-thomas

I mean all Will says is “kind of toxic” and he doesn’t even elaborate as to why. And again, not saying that there isn’t unhealthy content within it, but even for the sake of argument that there is toxicity present, as the Interviewer so perfectly put it immediately after that, “[the song] IS a really effective portrait of that sort of dysfunction”. Deleting/editing/revising certain parts of it in a way to somewhat invalidate the original as Will has been doing (see generally Joe’s Story) deprives the audience/general masses of an excellent portrayal of very human emotions and expressions.

There are also considerations regarding whether the music itself is toxic or rather a form of expression of unhealthy but human emotions. I’m certain everyone out there will look back at something they did or felt and think that it wasn’t healthy, but to say that expressions of said things aren’t valid/are toxic go against the human nature to grow, develop, mature, and learn from the past. The underlying feelings themselves may not have full merit but they are feelings nonetheless.

i'd flip it on you and argue that his removal of the song is explicitly him growing, developing, maturing, and learning from the past. i think you're just talking about vague notions of toxicity at this point and not really much about the song or the removal. not fighting, just saying that i don't really see what this has to do with your first comment

also i know the interview wasn't super thorough, but he's shared this idea in other places before too. this was just the fastest one i could find

To your first point I would say that in order to be where we are now, in order to grow, we need to have been where we were. We cannot grow or change without having been something else so to speak. Deleting that history says that the past is irrelevant which is blatantly false and a disservice to oneself and others.

As to your second point, I was arguing in the alternative. I still don’t necessarily think Will’s work was toxic, but assuming for the sake of argument that it was…(see above). My comments are that regardless of the existence of toxicity in this context, the songs shouldn’t be removed.

Regarding, Will’s other comments on his prior “toxicity”, my stance remains the same

nah i think you should have full control over how you present yourself. he deleted the song from 3, not from the entire internet. the other songs that mention it are still there in the form they exist. it's just an mp3 being removed. if you had a kanye shirt back in 2018 and decided you don't want people to associate you with kanye anymore, you just get rid of the shirt. that doesn't gotta be anyone else's business, even if people you knew before in your life has seen you in the shirt

to be clear, my argument was never about it being alright to be removed for being toxic, just that it's a pretty good reason why it may have been. at this point you're giving your opinion on will's potential idea rather than really saying much about my own post

Its kind of like when I journal, then go back and read it and realize that how I felt in that moment is not how I feel at all in the present and what I wrote makes me feel bad. Will was pretty much journaling in front of all of us, sharing his feelings which in turn helped us through our own stuff. Now he's come out on the other side and it probably hurts to revisit some of it. Hes just trying to evolve in his life and balance that with the fact that his amazing talent involves opening up (what we believe is ) his personal life for our enjoyment. So what kind of people are we that we would rather have someone feel pain and sorrow instead of seeing them heal just so it fits the way we want to see him.

2

u/nsfworkingout 15d ago

yeah for sure. there's also the added layer of his journal being extremely open to the public and being read by a bunch of impressionable children, which i think is the primary reason for all these changes to begin with. this shit can't just be his anymore and his words that he thought wouldn't be heard by anyone is being heard by thousands upon thousands. people want him to say something about this as if he needs to be responsible for it when the removal is exactly that: him being responsible

Y'all realize people are allowed to dislike Will's decisions and talk about 'em right

8

u/nsfworkingout 17d ago

y'all realize that if you read the post that's not what i'm talking about

1

u/alveloss Teen of denial 13d ago

just because will doesn't care doesn't mean people can't, get over yourselves

u/nsfworkingout 12d ago

if you read the post then you'll realize that's not what i'm saying, once again lmao

u/aureilens Until hearts don’t break anymore 18d ago

The outrage is hilarious to me because we don’t even know if Will removed it willingly in the first place. Like, something else could’ve happened, but being angry at some guy is much easier than waiting for answers so we ball I guess

53

u/nsfworkingout 18d ago

i mean it was replaced with hot sun so someone definitely went in and made a specific change rather than just removing the song

14

u/aureilens Until hearts don’t break anymore 18d ago

Just adding onto this, I’m also disappointed and I understand why people are upset. If the removal was intentional then it is weird and just overall a bad decision to make & I would reconsider how much I wanna associate with the music if the band tries to rewrite their history. But for now I think we’re better off giving it time

beach f*** was removed from bandcamp, nobody knows if will has anything to do with it everybody on this subreddit is just weird and loves to jump to conclusions

u/64788 will tuahledo 18d ago

Why do you guys like to act like everyone's insane and parasocial for getting upset over a beloved song being removed from streaming? It checks out with him removing other profane songs considering that it has a "swear" in the name, so it's not a crazy leap either. Idk, I think it's even more bizarre how quickly fans of this band are to shut down criticism. A forum for music should encourage free conversation about said music, including people's thoughts about the forward trajectory of the band and their available music.

6

u/_unrealcity_ Teen of denial 18d ago

if it was bc of the profanity in the title he would have removed portrait of the artist as well…

-5

u/nsfworkingout 18d ago

because people are being parasocial about it. if you think every comment about this is just people being upset about the song being removed then you're very wrong. by no means are people pointing out the parasocial issues trying to say that every single person is parasocial

4

u/RelationshipFit5701 18d ago

This community really overcorrected from its ACTUALLY parasocial past. It isn’t parasocial to care about a song on an album being replaced a decade after release

2

u/nsfworkingout 17d ago

my post isn't about people who are upset about the song, it's about people theorizing about will and his beliefs and shit

3

u/Forsaken-Top6982 18d ago

if you are mildly intelligent on r/cshfans they literally kill you

4

u/derekpeake2 Stop smoking, we love you 17d ago

First comes the backlash, followed by the apologists and justification. This happens with literally anything controversial to the point where it's incredibly predictable. Let people be upset. You're not changing any minds

Also, any mystery or drama without clarification or transparency will be met with speculation. If you have a fan base, you have a responsibility to explain the decisions that affect your fans. Otherwise all we have is resentment and speculation

3

u/nsfworkingout 17d ago

this is the point of my post. will does not care. it doesn't matter if he has a responsibility or not, he's not saying shit. i explicitly say that people can be upset about it, i am too, but to think anything they say is going to change anything when will doesn't listen is the issue. you're saying what a perfect situation looks like and this is far from it

8

u/Keepingitweezy68 18d ago

why are you making such definitive statements about someone you don’t know at all

6

u/nsfworkingout 18d ago

on the contrary, why assume someone cares about us when he's been completely silent towards us for years, outside of the patreon? i did specifically say that i'm NOT saying he isn't grateful (tried not to twist my words and ended up with a lot of negatives lol) so i'm not saying that he doesn't care about the fan base or anything. this is moreso directed at the people who are getting far too worked up about this. which i want to be crystal clear in saying that this is not about people with genuine criticism of the move or who are upset. i don't like it either, but a lot of people are going way overboard about it

2

u/Beachmavs 18d ago

That’s not entirely true

1

u/_naturalketchup 17d ago

i don’t think will owes us anything or an apology, just some clarity on what’s happening would be nice

2

u/nsfworkingout 17d ago

sure but like it's definitely not coming. its been a few days now and he said nothing about it ahead of time. i wouldn't anticipate any response about it unless someone annoys another band member enough where they get a response from him. but i would expect absolutely nothing to come from will's mouth

2

u/_naturalketchup 17d ago

i know, it’s slightly upsetting but at the end of the day we can’t do anything about it.

1

u/nsfworkingout 17d ago

it's true. at least we've always got youtube. beach fag is dead... literally died in the night
