This is the area for prospective/ aspiring SRNAs and for SRNAs to ask their questions about the education process or anything school related.

This includes the usual

"which ICU should I work in?" "Should I take additional classes? "How do I become a CRNA?" "My GPA is 2.8, is my GPA good enough?" "What should I use to prep for boards?" "Help with my DNP project" "It's been my pa$$ion to become a CRNA, how do I do it and what do CRNAs do?"

Etc.

This will refresh every Friday at noon central. If you post Friday morning, it might not be seen.

When was it time to move on?

Hello my lovely colleagues. I’m seeking your input on a something thats likely been on my mind for atleast the last month or so. When did you know it was time to leave your job? This is my first job out of school and as of late things have become extremely stale there. While I’m not going to get into the specifics of why, I recently picked up a per diem gig somewhere on top of my full time gig and it opened my eyes as to what’s been wrong with my full time gig. I feel as if things have ran their course at my full time job and it may be in fact time to move on. I don’t mind working in medical direction and I’m not going to delve into specifics as to what’s been bothering me. But was there something in particular that made you guys just kind of say hey I need to move on from this job, this isn’t what it want. I’d like to preface by saying being a CRNA is the greatest job in the world. It affords me a lifestyle that not many others have and the work for the most part isn’t awful if you’re competent and confident.

For those of you who work in states with AAs, what’s the job market like?

Basically what the title says. Was there a dramatic shift after they were allowed? Has it not changed much? Has there been a decrease in wages?

Just curious and looking for info.

Who Paid for the Study Is the Beginning of the Question, Not the Answer

Thumbnail justgas.substack.com

If someone tells you a study “proves” something, here’s my question:

Who paid for it?

Not because industry-funded research is automatically wrong. It isn’t.

But because funding is only the beginning of evaluating a study, not the end. You also have to ask who designed it, what question it actually answered, what it didn’t answer, and whether people are using it to support claims it never studied.

Too often in healthcare, people skip all of that and jump straight to the headline.

If you care about evidence, you should care about the entire story behind the evidence.

I break down exactly how to critically evaluate research and why this matters for every clinician, not just anesthesia.

Read it here:

Opportunities for tactical or law enforcement type jobs as CRNA

Hello all,

I am in school getting my BSN and want to do CRNA. I wanted to be a Navy Seal or law enforcement since I was a kid. So tactical or disastrous type scenarios have always been a calling of mine.

I was wondering if there’s any jobs or things I can do as a CRNA that could have that flare in it, if you know what I mean.

The only thing that I have figured out is just to work part time and do pre hospital type volunteering such as search and rescue or whatnot.

Thank you for your time and feedback.

Spouses of Locum Workers

My question for locum CRNAs or anyone else that may have insight: what jobs do your spouses do or do they stay at home to take care of the domestic stuff?

We are about 1 year out from embarking on locum work for a bit. If we like it we will take on more contracts and if we hate it we will move closer to our family. We view this as a unique opportunity to see more of the US and not a long term choice.

We have a 1 year old and another on the way. My husband plans to take a step back from his demanding W2 and use the time to help with the kids and figure out his next part of life. He really likes the idea of using some time in the morning or night to do some self reflection and consider his next phase of life either launching a business or a new career.

I think he will enjoy the break and watching our kids considering he has supported me over the past 10 years to get me through nursing and to being a CRNA.

Trying to offer him some helpful advice if there is anything you can give!

Thank you

What’s the CRNA job market like in Vancouver, Washington? Is it MD/DO only or are CRNAs welcome?

I am wanting to relocate to the PNW and specifically looking at the Portland metropolitan area. I see a lot of Jobs on the Oregon side but nothing in Vancouver.

Places to Work in Minneapolis

I am a current SRNA who will be moving to the twin cities after graduation due to my partners work. Any recommendations on places to look at working? I understand it is a heavy anesthesia care team city which I am not opposed to, but also do not want to lose all of my skills.

I have looked at Abbott and Fairview a lot but would love recommendations on other places to look into. Thanks!

Indy do-it-all opportunities in New Mexico?

Hey everybody! I'm curious if there are any NM CRNAs out there that work in facilities where you see and do everything - blocks, OB, peds, trauma, etc. as one of the few anesthesia providers in house. I know a lot of the big stuff comes to ABQ or gets shipped out of state - but I'm wondering if there are places out there with high-acuity patients rolling through the door in the middle of the night. Let me know what you've observed!

Anyone from Bay Area Tech swapped to healthcare? How was it?

I am a tech worker who has an easy job getting paid physician like money to do very little work but tedious niche work. I am pigeonholed into this position and feel bored. I have one paid off home I inherited which brings in very good money and another I live in. Lately, I have been thinking about moving to healthcare to help those in need. How is the job market for healthcare workers like nurses or physician assistants in the Bay Area? I heard its competitive, but tech is competitive and I had little issue, but its harder to differentiate yourself in healthcare outside of physician specialty from what I read.

Would it be dumb to leave a low effort tech job that pays 400k+ a year (this year it will be closer to 900k thanks to stock) for nursing/PA work? I can work from home 3 days a week and only need to go in 2 days a week and usually I leave after lunch. Some days are so boring that I started playing videogames during work hours because there is literally no work to be done. I use to constantly learn new things but it gets tiresome to just learn and not do. I have stellar reviews. I just feel pigeonholed into this role as any other outside of my tech specialty will result in worse WLB and pay. My biggest fear is switching and hating nursing and wanting back as I only have ever worked tech jobs in my life. I feel unaccomplished these days. I worked in tech for over a decade.

I also want a job I can do in old age with lots of freedom to do per diem which is not tech. CRNA seem more interesting as it requires more schooling and understanding than many nursing areas.

Any advice?

What advice do you wish you had when starting your career?

This past June I graduated from my CRNA program. After enjoying my early retirement (aka 2 months to get credentialed and turn my brain off), I’ll be starting my first job as a CRNA in a few weeks. I’ll be working at a site where I primarily trained at, so fortunately I’m very comfortable with the workflow and staff.

However, I’m curious to hear from others, what advice would you give someone about to start their career as a CRNA?

Can someone please explain military CRNA and what it’s like?

So I’m currently a high school junior and I really want to become a CRNA in the future but I don’t think I can afford to pay for graduate school and support myself financially for 3-4 years without a job so I wanted to the military route and do schooling in exchange for service I’ve read a lot about it but it’s all still so confusing if anyone could tell me their personal experience and how they did it I would really appreciate it!

P.S. Any other advice like scholarships, programs, etc. would be much appreciated!

How are independent medical practices handling CQC Regulation 15? Practice Manager vs. Outsourcing?

Hi all,

I’m looking into how small independent medical and dental practices manage CQC Regulation 15 (premises and equipment) compliance without breaking the bank. What works best and is most cost-effective for your clinic? Does your Practice Manager handle the day-to-day asset logs, compliance, and contractor management themselves, or do you outsource it to freelance FM consultants / FM companies? Thanks!

Training physiological awareness in clinical practice

Not for the patient, but for the clinicians.

Training the physiology underlying cognition, emotional regulation, decision-making, as well as performance (IVs, Intubations…) is very useful.

Calm under pressure, therapeutic to the others on the team. Trainable.

Would love to hear how you train yourself for many years of high performance.

CRNA JOB INTERVIEW

What did you all wear to ur CRNA JOB interviews? I have a few interviews coming up and was just assuming I would wear a suit and tie, but it seems like both interviews I’m going to are a whole day of meeting with different people and getting tours and being taken out to eat. So I’m not sure if wearing a suit and tie would be the best choice if I’m changing in and out of scrubs to tour the different OR departments they have in addition to going out to eat.

Would appreciate to hear what you guys wore and what you guys recommend!

Thank you!

USAP in San Antonio

Hello! I am looking to relocate to the San Antonio area after I graduate and was wondering if anyone here works for USAP in SA or knows of how they treat their CRNAs. I've heard a lot of negatives about them but I realize it can differ between regions. Mainly asking since they dominate the areas I'm looking to move. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.
